A word from Felidia
Felidia is located in a converted Brownstone on 58th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues. Opened in 1981 by Lidia Bastianich, Felidia offers a warm atmosphere where you can still find Lidia greeting guests and fans.

Executive Chef Fortunato Nicotra has been with Felidia since 1996 and has brought an innovative touch to traditional ingredients and dishes from all the regions of Italy.

Some of the restaurant's signature dishes include pear and fresh pecorino ravioli, veal shank ossobucco and limoncello tiramisu.
Felidia also offers a delicious three course price-fixed lunch, Monday - Friday for $29.50 per person, making the restaurant great for business lunches or just a nice afternoon treat.

For parties of 8 or more, Felidia offers our group dining menu rather than the a la carte menu. The group dining menu is a five course menu and includes our most popular dishes and seasonal favorites for $95 per person.

We were looking forward to Felidia very much, however, it did not meet our expectations. We are fans of Lidia Bastianich (from what have read and seen on television). The decor and mood were very inviting. Our waiter was very knowledgeable but very snobbish and didn't seem impressed that he had to wait on us -- it was a forced effort. This was disappointing -- we expected the service to be as warm and welcoming as Lidia's personality (a reflection at least). In fact, we felt almost unwelcome. The food was good but not excellent -- it is equal to any "good" Italian place in Manhattan. For instance, Gennaro in the West 90s has superior food. We left saying we wouldn't return to Felidia any time soon.

My "plati secondi" (if I have the Italian right), was ravioli made with pears and a bit of cheese. So subtle, so fresh, such a fanciful and charming idea. Done so delicately, with such care. It was sensational. I commented to my companion, a young woman I was trying to recruit, that Lydia is one of my idols as a home cook. Her ideas about food so imaginative. I see a lot of cooks tyring to gain an advantage with laborious complications. While Lydia leaps ahead with the daring and genius and simplicity of the conception. I love this place for lunch because it's a lot quieter than most of the places in the heart of midtown. Altogether a heavenly experience. The food lover's Cloud Nine. Couldn't be more appreciative.

I've dined at Felidia's on a several other visits to NYC over the past 5 years. This visit was not up to par with previous visits primarily because of the level of service. The staff did not bring water or menus for quite a while after being seated. We ordered wine by the glass and the servers were very delayed about asking if we would like another glass. Once the order was placed for another glass our meal was almost over before the glasses were brought to the table and we had to remind the servers as it seemed that they had forgotten about it. Overall the visit was just not the same as in previous years although the desserts were exceptional.

Some tables are ridiculously close together. I've been to Felidia many times. This time, I took a friend for her birthday, and we were practically in our dining neighbors' laps. The busboy was nearly seated atop our table to clear the adjacent one. This did dampen the experience. But Lidia's food was brilliant as always, and I will go back (though I'm wondering if I get a better table when I make the reservation directly.

We has a major issue with the service. The staff continued to stand around in groups discussing their take home pay and health insurance. For a restaurant at this price point, it was extremely inappropriate and distracting. In addition, we were rushed and not even offered a second glass of wine. Very disappointing experience. We were extremely disappointed with Felidia’s. The ambiance was adequate. The hostess lacked personality, the menu was very limited, and the service was terrible. Our server split our martini on the table while pouring it (the shaker top was not secure) and he just kept pouring and spilling. I ordered a pasta dish with lobster meat and I had to hunt around for the lobster meat. We ordered coffee and the server never offered us a second cup. Finally, when I made the reservation they asked if it was a special occasion. I informed them that it was my fiancées birthday. When they confirmed the reservation they verified that it was his birthday. When we received our dessert….nothing….no happy birthday or anything. The bill was nearly

He was ver careful to check to see if we had allergies or dislikes. We were open and dined on an exquisite meal of sauteed octopus, pear ravioli, veal and beef cheeks with mushrooms and a sampling of dessert.....tiramisu, chocolate morsal with pistachio ice cream and a flan............all of this with plenty of time to make it to the theater. • Too much wait staff hovering,
    ddhaneVIP

Too much wait staff hovering, is my one big complaint. We could not get a sentence in to each other without someone leaning in to refill our wine glasses or water or to ask us how if the food was "special." I infinitely prefer--honestly--being able to fill my own wine glass so I can pace how much I drink and how quickly. And it's nice not to run out of water but it's equally nice to be able to enjoy my dinner companion and not just keep getting my attention trained toward the food. The food *is* "special"--that's why we chose to eat there. But the service took a chunk of pleasure out of the evening. Good evenings are not solely about the food.

Our group was anticipating the best of the best from Felidia b/c of the coveted reservation policy & knowing that the kitchen staff was tapped to assist in Papal dining. Perhaps the kitchen lagged that evening in the head chef's possible absence. We all greatly enjoyed our appetizers & pasta courses & agreed they are Felidia's forte. However, 3 of 4 were severely disappointed with our entrees, though only I sent mine back. All our meats were overdone to our request & my entree was particularly bland & unevenly portioned. The bison was underportioned while the veal was overportioned. To counterbalance, our server did give me a free dessert to make up for my entree. That server, though civil, lacked all affect & any interest in us.

I invited two of my best friends who do not speak English very well. I felt they were condescending towards us for that reason. The waiter had a fake Italian accent that drove me crazy. They treat us like we didn't know anything about nice restaurants. They were pushing expensive wines the entire time. They didn't know that I happen to know a lot about wines and gourmet food. I thought the wine was good but very overpriced except for Felidia's own wine label. The waiter only told us about it at the end when he saw we might not order any. When he served the white wine it was very hot.I told him to wait to serve it so it could cool a bit. He served it so fast that by the time I finished saying it, he had almost pour the whole bottle.

One of best dining experiences in years. ALL of the staff were incredibly helpful, friendly and gracious, and every dish was extraordinary. A special appetizer of raw scallop was seasoned so to remind one of a day on the sea. The complex duo presentation of octopus was a marvel of innovation. Lidia and the chef stopped by and both could of not been more gracious and welcoming. A very special place. I which I have gone sooner. Clearly my new favorite Italian restaurant as Le Bernandin is my favorite French.
