We had been looking forward to our dinner at Rich Table, after reading all the positive reviews. The four of us had a very disappointing experience. Entrees were good (not great), we ordered the "doughnut" bites, which were tasteless dough balls with a bland dipping sauce that looked like yogurt, the soup was a weird combination of ingredients and fell way short on flavor, the bread also lacked flavor. The service was poor, our waiter was somewhat attentive in the beginning but once the restaurant got busy he was nowhere to be found. The staff is not attentive, they removed our plates with most of our appetizers not eaten and didn't inquire if there was a problem.

Our waiter was outstanding. So attentive. But the food was just okay. We couldn't taste any porcini mushroom in the Porcini Doughnuts. While good, it taste like warm, fried bread. One of us got the Duck Breast Tagliatelle and I got the Halibut. Both were just mediocre.

Dine for 2 hours as plate after delicious plate of creative bite come rolling our of the kitchen. Lots of food for only $80. It was a shame to be too full to eat the last bite of perfectly cooked steak with two more courses to go. Ambiance is comfortable and casual. Service was great. But make no mistake, go for the fabulous food.

Food was good. Sardine chips were beautiful; liver mouse and mushroom puffs were fun. Small and large plates were good, I had the Bucatini with sausage and beef tartare. Service was slow and fairly robotic. Had to gesture 4 times to get an answer to a simple question. Did not feel like a welcome customer but rather a necessary evil.

Rich Table was on my 'must try' list. Loved NYer print in the bathroom & overall decor. Was surprised by strong fish/oil smell walking in, off-putting as knew my hair/clothes would stink. Fried sardine chips & truffle donuts were likely culprits as smell got stronger with fired orders. Tried oysters (loved), chips, shrimp, peach soup, burrata, crudo, summer squash gratin, coconut panne cotta (amazing). Best was shrimp. Soup was too rich with no distinctive flavor. Crudo was just ok. Burrata delicious, strawberry gazpacho lacking. Gouda in squash tasted like mustard sauce, again muted & missing richness/texture of typical gratin. Service and wine were great. May go again, try a meat dish & see if it's redeeming. Nice tho pricey.

Good: -outstanding service -Steak, Arugula, Peach entree -white chocolate mousse and strawberry granita -2011 Baker Pinot Noir Could've been better: -Hamachi appetizer -Salmon with crushed pea vinaigrette - WAY over salted I would definitely go back. The missteps in the kitchen could be for a number of reasons and the high points make me confident that someone definitely knows what they're doing back there.

1st, the service was excellent. We weren't rushed & they honored our request for a quiet table. We applaud the chefs' inventiveness but some combos were just weird. Most dishes were missing real depth in the flavors. The sardine chips were fine. A lighter dough & more mushroom flavor would help the porcini donuts. Our favorite dish was the hamachi with puffed rice furikake - a wonderful combination of textures and flavors. The chitarra had delightfully fresh fava beans, but was salty. The salmon with pea puree was ok (we had a great version of this at Boulud so there was something missing; I just don't know what). The panna cotta with candied hazelnuts, cherries, & coffee ice cream was a strange mix of flavors that did not mesh.

Fixed menu w/ wine pairings have left indelible impressions on our palates. Really some of the most creative uses of various ingredients that we've experienced. All servers knew about what they were serving and if they didn't they'd find out and bring back the answer. Well thought out wines. We've been to Noma in Copenhagen, Meadowood and French Laundry and now put Rich Table up there alongside them in our books and at much more reasonable prices with a great lively atmosphere vs. a more formal one. Kudos to Evan and Sarah for putting together what is now our most favorite restsurant in the Bay Area.

I was eagerly anticipating my visit to Rich Table, after waiting for my turn I was dissappointed. I ordered their staple appetizer, Morel doughnuts, they arrived piping hot, perfect! but when I took my first bite I pulled out a strand of hair, ok mistakes are made, my second bite I found another one. I did not tell anyone at my table but asked told the manager. She immediately took the doughnuts and came back 5 min later with a new batch. I did not want to ruin the dinner for anyone else and we continued with the rest of the courses. When the check arrived, there was no apologies nor offer to remove the item from the bill. I thought this was poor taste and decided not to return here again. Plenty more restaurants in SF.

Rich table was a "special mention" in this year's (2014) Michelin Star reviews. I honestly think they screwed up because this was one of the most amazing meals of my life!! My wife and I had 2 chef's tasting menu and the chef did not disappoint! There were a few standouts in the 9 pice tasting menu, namely the sardine chip, the hamachi dish, the steak and the desserts! I almost do not want to share how fantastic this place is because it's hard enough trying to get reservations for this place, but this place was so deserving of their success that I simply can't say anything bad about them!

This is a definite fit for foodies. We practically had to get the whole menu translated as there were so many different and unusual foods we had never heard of! Also had the Spring Fling cocktail which was absolutely delicious! I was happy to see that a lot of the food was locally sourced so this place is also fit for health nuts albeit not a lot of vegan dishes, more catering towards the meat/ fish eaters... I think there was 1 vegetarian dish. This is a must try if you can get in on their reservation list. We were finally able to make a reservation a month ahead after trying for months.

We waited a bit for the buzz to die down before dining at Rich Table, which is the latest foodie entry into the Civic Center dining scene. Replacing the late lamented Paul K, the room is light and airy and buzzing with lots of noise. We took in a pre-performance meal and the server paced us well. The dried porcini doughnuts with raclette as a starter were absolutely fantastic. The rest of the dishes were quite good but didn't have the star quality of the doughnuts. The halibut with beets just didn't seem quite right. Interesting wine list. Not sure it merits all the buzz, but a nice addition to the Civic Center scene.

Fun place. Great service. Some unique food. Maybe my expectations were too high based on others' reviews, etc., but I found it a bit overrated...not necessarily a standout for San Francisco, where this type of offering is starting to feel more commonplace. The donuts and sardine chips were my favorite and certainly deserve their constant place on the menu (the only 2 items that do not change). Might have been a little adventurous with our choices - for instance, anchovy pieces in strawberry-tomato gazpacho(?) - because something did not sit well with me that night.

The porcini doughnuts were outstanding! and moved to out of this world with the melted cow's milk cheese. The scallops were OK, but the sauce was outstanding. (Great levain bread to sop it all up.) The halibut was judged as very good - wasn't over done; the Chicken liver mousee and cauliflower were OK, but the asparagus was outstanding (both orders). I had the pork loin. It was a little less than OK - I thought it was dry and there was nothing remarkable about the taste. The walnut ice was very good. My companions had a chocolate dessert they said was very good. Service by the new-wait-person-in training was fine. Loved the large windows. The place does get loud, though.

Two of our party arrived on time, so ordered cocktails. We made it clear that we were not in a rush when asked. The final guest arrived (~15 minutes late) and also ordered a cocktail. Our server explained the menu and when he returned a minute later, we wanted to order a few starters, but he told us that the chef required our entire order at once. He came back within 1 minute, so we quickly put in our order. The starters came fast and were excellent, but then, while we were still enjoying our cocktails, 3 different people (our server, the host, and someone else) came up to ask us about ordering wine, so we felt pressured. There was a long gap before our entrees were served. Overall, great food, but the service was rushed and strange.

Three of us had great meals at 5.30pm on a Tuesday. The sardine chips were divine. I would go back for those alone. The cilantro pasta was fresh and light, pitch perfect, and the scallops were flavorful and succulent. The only reason for not giving five stars was that I felt rushed from the moment I sat down until I asked that the mains not arrive for a bit. Overall, excellent, innovative food and friendly, attentive service.

Really liked the food here. The sardine potato chips were wonderful!!! We also had the liver mousse (great!); the raw oysters (branduce, okay oysters, but miyagi are better -- also did not care for the sauce). We had a salad (big salad!, good ) and the lamb shank pappardelle (did not like -- really no sauce & had dried strawberries & kiwi in the dish -- strange). Ended with scallops -- very good.

Rich Table is our favorite place to go for amazing food, but this most recent visit was lacking. We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation started, although that was not really their fault because the people seated at our table were just hanging out and chatting. The food was incredible, as always, as were the drinks and wines that we had. However, our server left half way through our tasting and did not inform us (which was a disappointment because we really liked him, also he had offered us an extra taste of a wine to compare for a course that I was going to have). He disappeared, as did our wine pairings. We had to flag down our new server and ask for the wine way after the next course had been served. Disappointing experience.
