With both bites and appetizers on the menu, Rich Table allows the diner the flexibility to experience a wide range of flavor experiences and still enjoy the main courses and desserts. During our most recent dining experience we ordered 3 of the bites, all the appetizers but one, three pastas and two main courses and a dessert. This was split among 4 diners and it was a perfect amount of food. Rich Table chefs have mastered flavor pairings and presentation but their consideration of food textures brings the food enjoyment to even a higher level. Go with a small group and dare to order everything on the menu!!

wAITER AND/OR RESTAURANT Waiter and/or restaurant are completely inflexible. Could not order appetizers separately - had to place entire dinner order at same time, Also, no substitutions allowed. Prices very high given small portion sizes. Food was mostly average quality and taste. Decor was shabby given exorbitant food prices. No tablecloths.

This was our second time, an improvement over the hostile host we encountered the first time we ate there, around the time of the opening. At that time I thought the food was good, but not unique. My husband thought otherwise. We took a long time returning b/c it was hard to get reservations. Now the furor has died down and we scored a table. Now he agrees with me. If we lived in this neighborhood, it would probably be a regular place for us, but since we don't, it's not worth the hassle. It's VERY noisy and I wish SF restaurants would find a way to factor in sound dampening as part of their design.

The food is absolutely delicious. Everything we tried was good and the portions were great. Unfortunately, it's hard to get a reservation and the menu may be completely different by the time I'm able to return but I'm willing to see what they've come up with once I make it back.

Open table has always been my vehicle of choice for making reservations. But two experiences in the last week changed my mind. I made a reservation at Open Table and also at Hayes Street Grill, but at the last minute our plans changed. We went to open table to change the reservations, and in both cases found nothing was available. We called the restaurants, just in case, and had no problem making the reservations we wanted. When Open Table says there is no reservation, don't believe it. The food at Rich Table was OK at best. The Porcini Doughnuts, so wildly raved about, were absolutely tasteless. The pork chop was 85% fat. We ordered a dessert that was inedibile. The server was not surprised, and said that a change had to be made.

I waited 1 month to get a reservation at Rich Table and it was well worth the wait. All the dishes were fantastic, creatively put together and executed perfectly. Notable items were the Porcini donuts, sardine chip, and the pork/peach bucatini. Highly recommend.

We had friends come from out of town and get engaged during the day so my husband & I brought them here for a nice dinner. It was amazing. The atmosphere is great with an open kitchen so you can see the chefs working in harmony and being so precise. We started with the gruyere roasted potatoes, sardine chips, and porcini donuts and loved them all. Much better than everyone getting individual appetizers because you get to try everything. We also split a pork and peach pasta between the 4 of us - wonderful. I had the trout with corn grits and loved it, my husband had the steak and said it was very good. Our two guests also loved their entrees. For dessert the four of us split the olive oil cake and the crushed chocolate bar. Amazing!

I have eaten at Rich Table twice and both experiences have been amazing!!! I highly recommend their tasting menu. The ambiance, food, and staff make this one of my top picks for a meal in San Francisco! I loved that Chef Evan Rich came to our table with our final course and talked to us. He was so down-to-earth and humble...this restaurant is so comfortable and approachable. ZERO pretension!! I love this restaurant!

From the heartfelt birthday wishes from no fewer than three staff to the porcini-dusted doughnuts to the papparadelle to the main courses and stellar dessert (and bonus birthday dessert!), our first trip to Rich Table was memorable throughout. Our waitress had perhaps the best knowledge of the menu I have ever seen in ANY restaurant and never steered us wrong. The "bites" were decadent and delicious (please keep the doughnuts on the menu forever!), the housemade pasta outstanding, the main courses (scallops and salmon) exceptional, and the white chocolate mousse with watermelon granita a perfect conclusion. The cocktails were excellently crafted too. I can see a Michelin star in your future; it would be well deserved.

What a disappointment. I've been hearing about this place for ages, and after finally scoring a reservation I have no idea what all the fuss is about. The service was slow and overdramatic, and with each dish that came out the combination of flavors repeatedly fell flat. That said, the presentation was nice, but I'm here to eat not admire. Also, just to highlight the slow service, it took almost 10 minutes to get a cup of decaf coffee after ordering. There are plenty of better options in the city -- especially at this price point.

Recently did the chefs tasting menu here on a recent trip to San Francisco and I have nothing but the highest praise for this restaurant. At $80 for food and an extra $55 for the wine pairing this is easily one of the best deals in town. The 8-course menu was really more like 14 because the 2nd course was basically a tapas sampler with about 6 different small bites. Oh and I forgot to mention, my friend and I each received COMPLETELY DIFFERENT 8-course tasting menus. We ate half of each and then swapped plates, therefore getting to try about 12-14 different dishes (a few courses were the same). Very generous with the nearly 7-8 glasses of wine (we were both in no shape to drive). This place deserves the Michelin star I think is coming soon!

We've dined here twice, and, yes, they remembered us. Katrina is wonderful, and our water, Connor, treated us as special guests. The food is exceptional. Interesting ingredients and amazing preparation. (The salmon was just BUTTER - yum.) I need to remember to keep the menu while we eat so I can identify the unique ingredients in every dish. Try the doughnuts (filling) and the sardine chips. The pasta? OMG. Just wish they'd open a second Rich Table, in Danville. Or at my house.

Great food, Terribly slow. took an hour for a piece of bread to show up on the table, and 2 hours for the main courses to arrive from the time of our reservation. We were pretty hangry after the first hour and started asking questions. The server was very nice about it and was crying she seemed so upset with the situation herself. The hostess came over and apologized at the 90 minute mark, and ultimately when we complained again, she comped the dinner but still decided to give us some grief for complaining. Not their finest moment.

All of the food at Rich Table was excellent. This tasting menu is a value for SF in terms of quality and cost. That said there are several things that need some adjustment. The pacing of the meal was odd, with too much food arriving at once, that could have been spread out a little. It would be nice if the tasting menu was printed or on a chalk board. There were several points in the meal where we could have gotten one of several dishes, but were never asked about preferences. All and all we had a wonderful meal, but the details need a little more attention.

We waited quite a bit for a reservation and we were very excited to try this restaurant less than 2 blocks from our apt. We were not met with the same level of enthusiasm, however. Service: 2 stars - waiter was standoffish amd terse. Met my gluten sensitivity question re: pasta with a terse response and no offer to point out dishes I could eat until I explicitly asked. We eventually were able to draw him out but why should we have to prove ourselves to our waiter?? Food: I can excuse bad service if the food is to die for. Simply put, it is not. It was just okay. The chilled bay shrimp was very good, my bf's halibut was cooked very well, but my steak was very salty. The food is layered with too many flavors that compete. Save $!

We had an early dinner here before the symphony. The food was interesting and delicious. Sardine chips as an appetizer were a novelty and the portabello donuts dusted with mushroom essence and served with raclette sauce were special. I had halibut that floated off the plate and my friend had the salmon, both with innovative preparations and surprises. My fish was over a corn souffle and was garnished with pistachios, and the salmon had baby peas and bok choy. For dessert we shared the carmelized olive oil cake with peaches and a bit of ice cream. Stellar!

We had been looking forward to our dinner at Rich Table, after reading all the positive reviews. The four of us had a very disappointing experience. Entrees were good (not great), we ordered the "doughnut" bites, which were tasteless dough balls with a bland dipping sauce that looked like yogurt, the soup was a weird combination of ingredients and fell way short on flavor, the bread also lacked flavor. The service was poor, our waiter was somewhat attentive in the beginning but once the restaurant got busy he was nowhere to be found. The staff is not attentive, they removed our plates with most of our appetizers not eaten and didn't inquire if there was a problem.
