we had a pleasant meal. i really liked the cauliflower soup and sweet potatoes. my mom felt her crab appetizer was too skimpy, especially when she saw how much her neighbor got. she also felt the panna cotta should have been more artfully presented. service was good, many servers, simple decor, but nice atmosphere, good vibe.

  • Good dinner, though overall

Good dinner, though overall I would agree that Rich Table at this point is somewhat over-hyped, and also overpriced. Each of us had a starter and a pasta and shared a carafe of wine (basically a half bottle) and the bread; no coffee or dessert; and the bill was almost $100 for dinner for two. That's starting to feel normal in San Francisco, I know; but still, it raises expectations, doesn't it?

We had a wonderful dinner at Rich Table. The menu is great for sharing and you can sample many wonderful dishes. We enjoyed everything that we ordered. An unexpected highlight were the sardine chips. The chicken was beautifully cooked; the pastas were perfectly prepared, etc. Looking forward to returning to try new entrees!

We enjoyed the food but the portions seemed small for the price. I was still hungry after my pasta dish. A couple of things marred my experience. To charge $4 for 2 pieces of bread seems very stingy and the bread was not that special. I know many restaurants are not bringing bread to the table and instead making you ask for it but to charge for bread makes the experience feel very non welcoming. Also no tablecloths for a place with substantial prices seems stingy. The decor was pretty non existent. Our server was pleasant and the mint ice cream dessert was very good. I also noticed an elderly gentlemen with a walker having great difficulty handling the steps at the entrance. Aren't there accessibility requirements?

I started out with a Manhattan which was one of the best I'd ever had. This was a good start to the evening. the Anchovy chips with horseradish were excellent and while the beef tartare was good, it wasn't great and could have used some more spice or vinegar. I had the rabbit for my main course and it was wonderful! It was more then I thought I was going to get and cooked perfectly. I had the eggnog for dessert another excellent drink. I'd definitely come back to try the tasting menu with the wine paring.

Everything we tried was insanely delicious- Crab w house made saltines, cauliflower soup, chicken schnitzel, pasta; papardelle. For desert- panna cotta and an ice cream with chocolate awesomeness. Cant wait to go back.

I thought the food was excellent although my dining partners did not. Loved the Sardine chips and the Brandade. Squash fritters were just ok. Olives awesome. Cauliflower soup was incredible for a first course. We didn't try the pastas and I wish we had. My trout was so flavorful with the slightly crunchy cippoline onions! I usually don't like sweet dishes but this was just slightly sweet because of the lovely onions. No one else liked their main course. Rabbit, or the chicken schnitzel. desserts were not great..lime curd was just weird and I wouldn't call the caramel dessert panna cotta...because it was just a pudding

Not a very impressive store-front and plain wooden chairs put us off at first. The friendly service and imaginative food won us over. Amazing sardine chips as a first bite ( you have to love a hot little sardine in a potato chip envelope.) The beet salad with burrata and toasted buckwheat crunchies was good, if a little strong of vinegar. Ocean trout on polenta with sweet and sour cippolini onions was a delight, as was the rabbit loin with kale on a large crouton of their wild fennel levain bread.

I was put off right away when the hostess tried to seat us in the bar even though we arrived on time, had indicated it was an anniversary celebration, and there were empty tables for two. The ventilation is poor; the whole place smells like the sardine chips they are so famous for. I like to eat them, not smell them. The food was good, not as great as the reviews say. We tried several dishes: sardine chips, duck pasta, beet salad, ocean trout and breaded chicken. Nothing on the dessert list appealed to us. The decor is rustic to a fault: the barn wood walls, wood benches, distressed columns and the basic serve ware do not showcase the food.

We were given a gift certificate to this wonderful place but were not familiar with it. We loved it! The food and wine was excellent and we made new friends with the table next to us, besides. Overall, it was a wonderful evening in a small intimate restuarant with interesting and wonderful food. We think it would be a great night out or a perfect place before theater or the symphony..all in the same neighborhood.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2007

They need to better manage the tables - had a reservation but still waited 30 minutes and in the end they sat us at a table in the bar area. NOT ideal - for a good part of the night, had people right up against our table, clutching their drinks and talking loudly. Had to raise my voice to almost shouting level so I could talk to my husband. Having people standing there also made it difficult for the waiters to get to these tables and impossible for us to flag down a waiter when we needed them.
