I have eaten at many wonderful restaurants, but Oliveto is definitely at the top. The salumi was to die for. I would go just to eat the different assortmants of Salumi. It melted in my mouth.

The quality of the food has definitely decreased. Very disappointing as this was one of our favorites. The pastas we had were mediocre in taste and presentation.

My all-time favorite. Have been going to Oliveto's for Easter dinner for 4 years in a row and plan on continuing this tradition. I also love their cafe below for a casual light lunch on weekends. Great all around. Kudos!!!

I have returned time and time again to Oliveto because it has a tremendous blend of ingredients that includes food, wine, service and location. Sarah R made the most incredible wine recommendations for our table and we all walked away with a night to remember. Thank you so much Oliveto for being not only my go to restaurant but my absolute favorite restaurant in the Bay area who has never disappointed me with mediocrity!

We enjoyed the meal but were warned by the server that ordering a few items for the table as starters would delay the rest of the meal, specially as the restaurant became busier. We therefore limited ourselves to the standard first, main, and side dishes. The food was delicious and the service was professional, as has always been our experience. We appreciated the decanting of the nice red we brought. When the restaurant became full it was hard to find a way to get back to my table after visiting the restroom. My waiter politely informed me as I was heading to the restroom that others were waiting to be seated. I could understand her concern but felt rushed nonetheless.

The food is superlative and the service is excellent. It's a handsome space, and from a window table, there's an excellent view of the Rockridge College Avenue streetscape. It's in a charming old Oakland neighborhood with delightful little shops. BART is right across the street for convenient access--but no interior noise from the trains. The restaurant is a little louder than we would like, but worth it for the food, wine, service, and ambiance.

The dining experience and food was very good, although at restaurants with such prices I expect to encounter novel taste senstations (wonderful memories in this regard at Masas, La Folie, and The French Laundry), and I didn't have any such encounters.

We love Oliveto. We have consistently wonderful dinners there. This particular occasion was for my 40th birthday, and they did not disappoint. I had a first course of tuna confit with winter vegetables that was particularly special. Anyone who has not been there should definitely go. Also noteworthy that their produce is always seasonal and exceptional quality, and they use only sustainable and humanely treated meats and fish. And some of the best desserts I've had since I moved to the Bay Area (5 years ago) have been at Oliveto (two I still think about are a rhubarb cake and a gingersnap ice cream). Really a great place, and I'm lucky to have it in my neighborhood so I can enjoy dining there often.

Having catered in the area for over 15 years, I continue to be unimpressed w/dining out. However, that ALL changed with the absolutely gastronomic experience at Oliveto's! The pork tartare was spot on w/wild arugula, chestnut pappardelle w/hen delicate and full of flavor, gnocchi w/blu & walnuts balanced and mouthwatering, and spit-roasted pork loin/belly an awesome taste treat! We wanted each dish to last longer. Sarah, our server, recommended the hazelnut meringue for dessert and that topped off this exquisite evening. The only negative for me, being a Bay Area native, was the bread was not sourdough - my preference and leaveable. We'll be back!

We had a wonderful meal to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday which was only marred by being served champagne WITHOUT being informed that the price was $25. per glass! That felt a bit shady, which is disappointing after so many great experiences at Oliveto.

I've eaten in 60 restaurants (mostly Italain)in the Bay Area in the last 2 years not counting repeats. Last Saturday was the second time I've been to Oliveto. Wihtout doubt, Oliveto is tops among Italian restaurants. I will go to SPQR next week, but it will be difficult to surpass the experience in Berkeley.

Our longtime favorite has hit the skids, big time. Last three visits were increasingly disappointing. Everything is overly salted, to the point where, on multiple occasions, we've been with guests who sent food back. They kept the concept, seem to have great suppliers, but have lost the magic in the kitchen. Too bad, so sad. I even sent a note to the owner to let him know we were losing faith, but nary a response! I guess they don't need our business in this hot economy!

We gave Oliveto a second try and did not find it any better from the first time. The issue is when you spend over $100 per person, you should be full and content. Sorry, this is not the case with this restaurant. I am of average weight and height and feel the portions are too small. My guests were disappointed as well. Year after year, this restaurant is rated one the best in the area, that is puzzling to me. Desserts like plum/ prune sorbet does not sound inviting.

The attention to details was extraordinary. It was my birthday & the menu presented to me was personalized wishing me a happy birthday. In addition the set menu had an item that I was allergic to & the chef cooked something up for me. I was told by my friend that my "impromptu" dish tasted just as good, if not better. Definitely a place that I would extremely highly recommend especially for those special occasion.
