There was nothing to rave about this food. Ordered soup, the traditional cous-cous, and lamb tagine. The soup was hearty, but not much different than a typical vegetable soup. I asked three times for bread and tried to delay eating my soup, but no bread until after I was finished. Strike one. Then we waited for about 30 minutes for our main course to come out. The waiter said he'd check on them, but didn't follow up with us. Strike two. No joke, 15 minutes later, a different waiter asked us "what did you order for dinner?" It was clear the order had been lost and they were just now realizing we hadn't been served (about an hr after we ordered). Strike three. When the food did arrive, as I mentioned, it wasn't special.

Went with a friend on a July Saturday night. For some reason they had decided to open only one of their large windows and we were seated many tables into the restaurant so we did not get to feel any of the "cool" night air which made it hot and stuffy. The guy who was originally our server disappeared after some time and with him any hopes of getting refills on water, etc. When I first sat down, I had to ask for water after many minutes of waiting. The service is not good. I did not feel like the staff was attentive. My friend has the chicken couscous which was good. The lamb with prunes tasted good but there were more bones than lamb in the dish so I would not recommend it.

  • Horrible- Disappointing...

My husband and I have been planning to visit Marrakech for months. So, we finally took the time to visit and was sorely disappointed. The service was horrible and our appetizers were bland (at best). For a Saturday evening at 8:30pm, the restaurant was relatively empty (which should've been a sign here in DC). We waited 20min for someone to finally come to our table to offer water or provide basic service. The manager was apologetic, brought us drinks and took our initial order. Then, we waited, and waited, and waited. After an hour, we finally gave up on the place and decided to leave. The only good thing I can say about this experience, was that the belly dancer was pretty good. For good Moroccan food, head to Alexandria, VA.

The food was amazing, I went with the waiters favorite, the lamb tagil, and it was phenomenal. The ambience was very authentic and very fun. A belly dancer came out a little after we finished eating and she was very impressive. Overall it was just a really fun time and great food!

We went there for Mother's day Lunch and there was one other diner in the entire restaurant. The food was good - the Shrimp was the best. Chicken Bastilla was good. Chicken Tagine was OK. Maybe the ambience would be better in the evening !

Wish we had sat in the upstairs part, as it wasn't very lively downstairs. The belly dancer did dance downstairs too, but the upstairs crowd was cheering, so it seems the upstairs is the place to be for the belly dancer. Downstairs was more relaxed. Love the food and the mint tea is amazing. The drinks were not the best, all else is fantastic - lamb prunes, veggie couscous...yum

We got inspired to try Moroccan food, and went to OpenTable to find our options. The food seemed very authentic. The chicken tagine was the best dish we had -- moist, and flavorful. The cous cous was rather dry but tasty. The lamb kabobs were great, but remember to order extra taziki for dipping. Dessert was nothing to write home about. But the Moroccan mint tea was a delightful and refreshing way to end the meal. We left before the belly dancer started, but will plan better next time.

  • Delicious food at La Kazbah!

We had already tried Marrakech, but this was the first time we ate at La Kazbah, the new management of the same restaurant. My friends had the lamb with prunes (it looked great) and I had the chicken tagine with lemon and olives (a very traditional Moroccan dish), which was delicious! It seemed to us that the food is now much better and genuine. We went on a Tuesday evening, so it wasn't very noisy. We really enjoyed it and will certainly return!

  • Overall, a disappointing experience

Overall, a disappointing experience. First the positives: La Kazbah is beautifully decorated in traditional Moroccan style with comfortable couches and tables spaced far enough apart to feel intimate. Unfortunately, aside from the beautiful interior, everything else was so-so or bad. Our biggest gripes: 1) most of the food was mediocre to bad (even the house specialties)--really a poor showing all around, with the exception of the merguez and bastilla; 2) Ambiance was ruined because they played the belly-dancer music WAY TOO LOUD--making it impossible to converse with our table-mates; 3) the lighting was so low that it was almost impossible to see what we were eating; 4) service was so-so. Save your money--go somewhere else.

Servers were very attentive at the beginning of our meal. By the end we were having to wave them down for the bill. Our server also forgot our last entree (we did a price-fixe) and it arrived cold to the table. Most of the dishes were good, particularly the vegetarian mix platter, but they lacked coherence and needed the sauce to pull it together more.

We were at the restaurant on Valentine's Day, though we did not order the special. The service was good -- everyone was pleasant -- and the food was OK. One companion ordered the mixed grill and found it dry, and my chicken tagine with olives was tasty but very greasy, which detracted. My main problem was the music. It was so loud that we asked that it be turned down, which it was just a fraction...until the belly dancer arrived (she was very good btw). The music went up to an unbearable level -- many people were covering their ears because it was painful. It pretty much ruined the meal, and as much as I like the decor and Middle Eastern food, I don't really want to go back because of that.

We tried La Kazbah for Valentine's day. The Valentine's day menu food was excellent. Our server was very nice and accomodating but the staff were very unorganized. We did not receive the first 3 courses in order and it seemed that other tables didn't either. I had to ask for 1 of the course items and later received seconds of another course. I would visit again but hope that they get some food ordering system worked out. Note: Be prepared to be there for a few hours.

We had a large group for a birthday, and overall we had great fun. The belly dancer makes it a fun atmosphere. The food was ok, not good enough for us to come back just for the food, but not bad enough to stop us coming back again. Although it did not matter too much as we were not in a hurry, the service was very slow for us being a large group (over an hour from ordering our mains to get the food)

What a fun place to eat. Belly dancing! Good food. The mussels appetizer was well-flavored and large for the price. I loved the slow-cooked lamp with prunes that was sweet and tender. This place is great if you want a value meal, a new food experience, or just something fun. Sit in the main room where the belly dancers perform - it's fun for everyone.

I really enjoyed my birthday dinner at La Kazbah. We had a party of 7 and almost everyone enjoyed their dishes which included the fish Tagine, lamb chops and lamb kabobs. Both friends who ordered lamb fassi felt that it was too sweet and too many prunes. The chicken bastilla appetizer was very good as well as the soup. The decor was very nice and authentic especially the tilework on the walls. This is a fun place and I wish them well.

It may have been just our table, but we started off great, appetizers came quick and were very good. We waited an exceptional amount of time for our main course and we do think when our food was coming, the waiter dropped the tray, so that added more time. They did realize they were taking very long. When the food did come, it was very good however. So, I would "maybe" recommend as long as those going weren't so concerned about service.I
