I used to live in Morocco and wanted to introduce a friend to the food. We chose this lovely little neighborhood spot and weren't disappointed. Mohammed was adorable and attentive. The owner came through to check on us and we spoke French all night. The lamb tagine, the chicken Bastilla and, surprisingly, the Malbec bottle were all really good. Will definitely go back.

We made reservations for 7:30 and as of 8 pm had still not been seated. many other people were waiting at the entry with no host appearing for about 10 minutes. Things seemed very disorganized and the restaurant overwhelmed. We left without being seated and let the host/owner know and he just said "okay" no apology and appeared indifferent to the fact that people were leaving.

I went to the Marrakech for my Birthday, I had high expectations for an awesome dining experience. The website boasted a "Dining Experience" It was far from that, I was very dissatisfied in the level of customer service and the fact that the room we were in was very crowded. It was very loud and service took forever. The wait staff was rude, the manager was taking orders from customers and the service was very slow. Busy or not, waiting an hour for our drink orders to be taken was unacceptable. We almost left to to another place to eat. I would not recommend this as a place to go unless you have low expectations for service.

We ate here for the first time on my birthday and it was a huge disappointment. We were seated in a corner near an emergency exit door, which was leaking cold air and letting cigarette smoke in from the street. We never even saw the main dining room. The service was slow and our waiter was inattentive. The food was ok, but I have had much better food at other restaurants in D.C. I will never go back.

The highlight of our night was our server, Khaled (sp?). He recommended and explained dishes through each course of dinner. The food was wonderful because we knew just what to order with Khaled's help. The only complaint we walked away with was that the restaurant was very cold. There were not many people in the evening we were there, so the temperature kept dropping as it got colder outside.

We dined at Marrakech for my husband's 40th birthday and had a terrific time. Our party of 12 enjoyed a leisurely meal, flowing with wine, delicious food & laughter. The service was attentive and friendly. We enjoyed speaking in French with our servers throughout the evening. The belly dancer was a fun bit of additional entertainment. My hubby even danced with her briefly, which yielded some comical pictures. My only complaint is that the music was too loud for my liking, especially during the dancing. There were times when we couldn't even hear our waiter because the music was so loud. Overall, it was a great night. We will return again for sure!

There was an 'original' restaurant was amazing, wonderful and I couldn't say enough good about it..... this "NEW PLACE" was aweful! They didn't have my reservation.... when I told them I had one it was in the "front room" - and btw, the front room is like hanging at the coat check! The food was not tasting or well prepared as it had been at the "original one" and it was not worth the money at all! Just a bad experience!!!!and the wires in the mens room were not just a fire hazard or off code but a complete danger that almost lit my son up with water and electricity!

Marrakech, which was recently put under new management, is really a fantastic restaurant. On a Friday night the mood was lively and loud, at least in the back room where a belly dancer briefly performed. The front room is more subdued and better for a date night, if that's what you're looking for. The best thing about Marrakech is the food - it's authentic (the owner is Moroccan and really knows his stuff), and every dish is a winner. Huge flavor, nicely presented (but not in a trendy way, in an authentic way), and great portions for the price. Make the two-block walk from Dupont Circle to try this restaurant - it's probably one of the best experiences you'll have in the entire neighborhood!

I had such a good time at the restaurant last Saturday it was lively and fun. The food is presented on a authentic Moroccan plate with a authentic presentation with so many flavors and spices. The chicken tagine was one of many of my favorite dishes. The waiters are friendly, but service can be a bit slow. Be sure to make time when dining in, as Moroccan hospitality should not be rushed. To add, a belly dancer performs during your dinner making you feel you're certainly in Marrakech. If you have been to the original Marrakesh, as I have, my advice to you is TRY IT without being a critic, it is a different restaurant, but you can't go wrong!

Overall we enjoyed our first dining experience at Marrakech. We especially liked the exotic atmosphere and the warm, friendly and efficient service. The dishes we sampled were mostly good or very good, but the one disappointment was the overcooked and dry chicken in the chicken tagine, which, fortunately, was still flavorful with the olives and preserved lemon. The fish tagine was very flavorful and perfectly cooked. We'd like to return to try other dishes.

I see many comparing this to the other marrakesh on NY ave. I forunately have been to both. They are under different owners and certainly not the same. HOWEVER, they offer the same concept just as good. In fact, this marrakech even offers a la carte menu with many traditional morroccan flavorful dishes. As soon as you enter the restaurant you feel you are stepping into morrocco, belly dancing is a plus to the experience, but the great food makes this restaurant an amazing "different" that can't be compared. It a MUST TRY! I havent been disappointed.

Took my family out for dinner and arrived early to find that we had the whole dining room to ourselves (on a Friday!) I can't imagine why, as the food was delicious and the service, in our case, very prompt. We had chicken in pastry and baba ganoush for appetizers and chicken and fish tagines for entrees. All came with plenty to share and were delicious, and the mint tea afterwards was just right to end the meal. I felt bad that there wasn't anyone else in the room but it did make for easy conversation! I would definitely come back, and probably bring a crowd of friends to share the great food.

We found this local gem by looking at some reviews in the Washington Post and then looking it up online. The reviews gave it high ratings and the reastaurant didn't disappoint. We went in quite late and had the restaurant mostly to ourselves so ended up talking to our server Driss, who was from morocco. He talked us into doing the tasting menu and I'm glad we did. The food was amazing and we got to taste our way through the menu. However, be aware that this is A LOT OF FOOD! Highly recommended !

Overall, the atmosphere was nice but just overly quite with no other guests eating which made it unusual. The food was okay, not what we expected it to be as I took my family to the other (Moroccan Restaurant in DC- New York Ave)- which closed down and was the best Morracan restaurant ever! The service at this location was not very good at all and with the food not being above average really ruined the experience. We werent explained the menu well and were never offered drink refills! The belly dancer was a hit and the entire team really enjoyed it. We will not be returning to this restaurant again nor would we recommend it. (Very disappointing dinner.)

It's certainly a one of a kind gem for special events or romantic dinner. As a friendly man greets you at the door dressed in Moroccan clothing, you already feel you're entering a different country. The tables are spacious, candle lit with Moroccan design and antiques all around. The kind waiters provide the Moroccan hospitality to everyone making service a bit slow if it's busy. However, the great choices of amazing food will make up for it. A beautiful belly dancer comes out during your dinner twice adding to the experience, she will certainly pull you in the environment letting loose and find yourself leaving with a smile. You can't go wrong here if you're looking for a different yet good time.

The food was excellent and the belly dancer made the environment very lively and energetic, which was great for a birthday. The service was good, however the serving staff seemed very overwhelmed and were not very organized. The restaurant also did not tell us beforehand that it was a set menu for large groups even though I called them a few times before the day of the reservation. We ended up spending more than we anticipated because of this. They did an excellent job in bringing out the cake and cutting it for us.

The chicken Bastilla had too much powdered sugar and tasted more like a dessert than an appetizer. The tagine was cooked well. Mint tea was syrupy sweet. In general there was heavy handed use of sugar by the kitchen. Moroccan food has a wonderful balance of sweet and salty achieved with cooking with dry fruits. This was missing in flavor.

There was nothing to rave about this food. Ordered soup, the traditional cous-cous, and lamb tagine. The soup was hearty, but not much different than a typical vegetable soup. I asked three times for bread and tried to delay eating my soup, but no bread until after I was finished. Strike one. Then we waited for about 30 minutes for our main course to come out. The waiter said he'd check on them, but didn't follow up with us. Strike two. No joke, 15 minutes later, a different waiter asked us "what did you order for dinner?" It was clear the order had been lost and they were just now realizing we hadn't been served (about an hr after we ordered). Strike three. When the food did arrive, as I mentioned, it wasn't special.

Went with a friend on a July Saturday night. For some reason they had decided to open only one of their large windows and we were seated many tables into the restaurant so we did not get to feel any of the "cool" night air which made it hot and stuffy. The guy who was originally our server disappeared after some time and with him any hopes of getting refills on water, etc. When I first sat down, I had to ask for water after many minutes of waiting. The service is not good. I did not feel like the staff was attentive. My friend has the chicken couscous which was good. The lamb with prunes tasted good but there were more bones than lamb in the dish so I would not recommend it.

My husband and I have been planning to visit Marrakech for months. So, we finally took the time to visit and was sorely disappointed. The service was horrible and our appetizers were bland (at best). For a Saturday evening at 8:30pm, the restaurant was relatively empty (which should've been a sign here in DC). We waited 20min for someone to finally come to our table to offer water or provide basic service. The manager was apologetic, brought us drinks and took our initial order. Then, we waited, and waited, and waited. After an hour, we finally gave up on the place and decided to leave. The only good thing I can say about this experience, was that the belly dancer was pretty good. For good Moroccan food, head to Alexandria, VA.
