We enjoyed the company of meeting long time friends at Ayse; the great food was unexpected and greatly appreciated. We have elected to meet again here (since both couples travel about 40 minutes, from different directions, to meet there).

The food was excellent the service was very good given how busy they were. We sat in the bar area and there was a football playoff game so the bat patrons were loud at times. If you would like a quiet dinner I would recommend requesting that you not be seated in the bar area. Ayse Meze is owned the the same company that operates several other Frederick, MD area dining establishments. The own the micro brewery Brewers Ally so they have a selections of their brews on tap. For started our tabled ordered the hummus, muhammara and tzatziki served with PITA bread all were excellent. I had the biftek and a dessert (don't recall the name) also all excellent. I'm looking forward to going back!

We loved our dinner, excellent service and such a lively place for a weekend treat. Reasonable wine menu and excellent menu items. Nice touch if you notify about a special occasion - we had Happy Anniversary on our menu and recognition at our table - special. We loved the choices and recommendations from our server - very special night! Thank you!

This was my first visit to Ayse Meze Lounge. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and were seated right away. The menu of small plates is varied and interesting. When asked what she recommended, the server suggested the brussels spouts and scallops as customer favorites. We ordered both during our meal and were very impressed. Honestly, the brussels spouts are to-die-for. Yes, indeed! The scallops were perfectly prepared, sweet and tender. Pita bread arrives at the table fresh and hot and delicious. A small mistake in our order was immediately corrected with apologies and a check in from the manager. This is my new favorite restaurant in Frederick and with so many excellent choices in town, that says a lot!

Our second time dining there and we will be back. The food is very good. The portions make it easy to try new things yet still have your favorites. The atmosphere is nice but a bit loud. There are some very quaint corners to be found. Parking is easy and it looks to have a very nice outside patio, I'm looking forward to the warmer weather and a chance to find out.

  • The food is served "Tapas"
    OpenTable Diner Since 2013
    Dined on 1/11/2013
The food is served "Tapas" style, which makes for a nice variety of tastings. The plates were quite elegant looking and very good. The service was friendly but somewhat slow, probably because of the size of our group (6) and the newness of the restaurant. The wine list was almost entirely Greek or mid-eastern in origin, and was only average. The room was so dark that flashlights were needed to peruse the menu, which we did for every course. We had an overall good experience and will return, but it will be with a smaller group next time.

Made a reservation in advance for the last seating before their new years pre-fix menu was to start. They STUCK us in the bar area for dinner and were told that the dinning room was for the new year celebration. Guess all that matters to them is money, not good service.

The food was good, and I thoroughly enjoyed their long list of vegetarian and vegan choices. However, the timing between dishes was crazy. One lapse was so long we forgot we had ordered food. For a table of a 4 we were there for 3 hours. We were enjoying the company, but it was a bit excessive.

This was my first visit to Ayse, and I loved it. Will definitely go back. It's a very nice addition to the downtown Frederick dining scene, which continues to improve. Since this is a "small plates" restaurant, we had several dishes. All of them were excellent. Fresh, warm pita bread comes in abundance. Very good, thick tzatziki sauce for dipping. The baked oysters are essentially a Mediterranean-style Oysters Rockefeller, with feta cheese replacing the traditional Parmesan. The ground lamb skewer was delicious. The roasted red bell pepper+walnut spread was a knockout. It was a Wednesday night, so we "held back" a bit. Otherwise, we surely would have had more. Service was attentive and personable, and the ambiance was sweet (dim lighting).

We went for lunch on a Wednesday. They have been open less than a month. It seemed very busy, but there were plenty of staff. I was waiting for a friend and was approached by no less than 3 staff/waiters to ask if I needed anything yet. We ordered the stuffed grape leaves, nice flavor, but tiny. Brussels sprouts were divine: capers, currants, onion, great roasted flavor. A must-try. The flatbread with cheese was a little too much bread, but the pita sandwich with falafel was very good, as we're the lightly seasoned fries that came with it. I will be going back to try the happy hour specials!

Not sure how to say this-"train wreck".I love greek food, so I was excited. Here's how it went-1) long delay to have our waiter approach us from the start;2) my husband's drink is sold as "fresh OJ" when it was mostly watery;3) he ordered oysters...I a spread.Spread arrived, oysters never did.Rush was placed, only to have them come out luke warm-who likes that? 4) His salad came out before oysters, waiter agreed to take it back to kitchen so he could eat in the order he wished-when salads came out a few minutes later, his was on a different plate, missing yogurt garnish with a piece taken out of it; mine was a salt lick. 5)I ordered beef pide, what arrived was not; 6) told we would not be charged for it, showed up on bill;7)excess apologies

We've been here twice. The food is very good. The pide, Greek salad, salmon, sardines (special) all very good. The service both times was really bad. Waited and waited and waited for our waiter both times for long stretches - as they stood yuking it up with the larger tables with big bar bills. The waiters knew they were neglecting us because they apologized time and again. The food is worth giving them another try - we saw lots of great looking dishes go by as we waited and are anxious to try them, but the service has got to get better.

Service was excellent. Seated quickly, and the servers knew the menu very well even though it had recently opened. Food was served quickly, and was hot. The menu is unique, and the small plates are similar to Spanish tapas, but Mediterranean. The presentation was nice, and food tasty, but I prefer tapas.

  • Pleasant but plain
    OpenTable Diner Since 2004
    Dined on 12/7/2012
The food at Ayse was a bit bland and underseasoned which is disappointing when you consider the big notes of flavor normally associated with Meditterannean cuisine. The feta stuffed pastry cigars were almost flavorless and lacking that sharp salty tang. So too, the hummus was dry and flat instead of the creamy, savory richness one is normally sad to see disappear all too soon from the plate. We didn't even finish half of it here. Greek salad had no vibrancy either, with even the traditionally salty high notes of kalamata olives being muted and dull. The only highlights were a fine, juicy lamb burger, a generous plate of tender calamari and a mild but pleasant falafel pita.

Decor is very nice. Acoustics in main dining made it impossible to have a conversation so we asked to be moved to the bar dining area which was much quieter. Food is tasty but temperature of food was not hot enough. Also entrees for our group did not come out at the same time so half the party was left waiting while the rest of us ate. I would try it again but give it some time before I did.

Excellent service from a lovely waitress. Mezze sampler dips were very good and a nice way to start the evening. Our table enjoyed both the red and the white wines from Turkey. The calamari had a very light batter and a little arugula with it...delicious. The brussel sprouts will make anyone love them. The special was grouper cheeks served over spaghetti squash and it was prepared perfectly. The shrimp sakanaki needed a little work. The shrimp tasted either old and/or not cleaned properly and the sauce is too thin. I have had this dish many times at Zatinya's in DC and it is much better quality shrimp and sauce. The spanakopita varies here, sometimes it is moist and delicious or a little to dry but the seasoning is done well.

Food was excellent! Service still needs much improvement. The hostess came by our table at least 5 times asking to remove our menus because they were running out. It's a tapas restaurant; they should know that people order gradually and want to keep a menu handy. We had ordered a bottle of wine that they had on special. The first botlle was exellent; when the 2nd bottle arrived it was a completely different wine and not nearly as good. The server insisted that it was the same as the 1st bottle even though the name, labels and taste were completely different. I'd go back, but will wait a few months until they have all the service kinks worked out.

Second time here - I love the place- wide open, lots of wood- marble floors and large windows in the dining room. The sampler tray of dips is great. The roasted Brussels sprouts were not so good- I make them better than that but they were edible. There must be some flabe dishes because every now and then there's a huge flame being held high above a waiter's head at a table, and in the darkened atmosphere it creates a brilliant site. We did not feel hurried, as in some places-

I am fortunate to have this restaurant in my neighborhood because I plan to go again soon. The meza are small plates and for lunch I had two mesas; the roasted scallops with sweet potato purée and fennel and a starter of zucchini pancakes. Both were outstanding with depths if flavor, eg the zucchini pancakes had a side of honey and yogurt. My guest said that she would return with her daughter because the kids menu is much more extensive than most restaurants. This Mediterrean cuisine offers something for everyone.
