Overall we had a great experience. The food and service were excellent. Our only complaints is that the music is too loud and there were not a lot of mid-priced wine options. A great sommelier like Alpana should be able to find great mid-proced wines as well as higher proced wines.

meh....tables are way too close together. waitress was a little snooty and was trying to turn over the table more quickly. food was just ok. would go back for a drink at the bar. The decor is fabulous. Better places in the city to get food at that price point.

I've been to Boarding House (just the two bar areas) a lot since it's been open so I was looking forward to dining upstairs. The atmosphere upstairs is great but the food did not live up to the hype. We started with hamachi Crudo but the white fish had no flavor even which Pomegranate, Shaved Fennel, Blood Orange Vinaigrette. Sure Edith’s Fried Chicken was tasty, but I could have gotten this from Kentucky Fried Chicken. I had the Hazelnut Crusted Short Rib and I've never had a drier piece of meat - there was even a crust on it for being over cooked and my friend's scallops were over cooked as well. Sure I'll be back again and again but only to the bars not the dining room.

The food is really good and has a great twist. The service for the price point was quite poor. We had 1 server and 1 helper for several tables. If the owner/GM want to keep this restaurant afloat - they will fix their service issues NOW. If not, the GM needs to be fired ASAP.

As a new restaurant it still needs to fix some of its kinks. Service was poor, things were not brought out in a timely manner, and bartender wasn't attentative to his guests. The decor and ambiance were amazing! Wine list over the top and the food options for everyones palate!

Wonderful experience. Had excellent service, our server, Kelly, was extremely professional and made excellent recommentations. The space is beautiful and interesting. Highly recommend the salmon and scallop entrees. The wine of course was wonderful and many were unknown to us. I like that the wine by the glass menu changes every day! My only criticism is that the staff did not seem to know much about the upcoming wine tasting events that both Ms. Singh recommended to us as did our server who said we could sign up onsite which turned out to be false. We kept getting referred to different staff who then ultimately did not have any information and told us to check the website.

The service and the atmosphere of the restaurant was vibrant and energetic. Our server was attentive and very knowledgeable of the menu and wine list and was good at giving suggestions when asked. However, the food was a bit underwhelming. Dishes like the fried Chicken, while the meat was very moist the skin was less than flavorful. Biscuits were a bit clumpy and heavy instead of fluffy and light. These are things that I am sure will be worked out as the newly opened restaurant begins to find its stride.

We really enjoyed our first experience at The Boarding House. We were very surprised to get to meet Alpena, the owner. She was amazingly hands on and very visible in the bar and the restaurant. The decor is "best in breed" in Chicago and worth going just to see. The drink list and presentation of wine at the perfect temperature is amazing. The menu has wonderful pairings of mains with sides that are appealing and tasty. My husband and I will recommend this place for the overall experience and will return for sure.

The interior space was beautiful. We dined on the third floor, stunning decor. Obviously the wine list was extensive and a few beers and limited liquor available. The food itself was fine, no problems, but nothing to write home about. Our server was wonderful. Checked in to make sure everything was fine and was friendly. Our bill without wine was $60 so no major sticker shock. Appropriately priced. I might go back but it is not on my must revisit list.

The decor of the Boarding House is the first thing you'll notice. It's really a stunning set up - classy with a lot of character. The food is great as well - really elevated comfort food with some interesting twists. The veal dish was stunning, as was the pork belly. The service seemed a little itchy to move us along, but I am optimistic that their timing will get ironed out as they go.

Wine list amazing. But be prepared to spend spend spend! Food was mediocre at best. Service was condescending and very pushy to the level if being rude. We had a group of 6 and server kept insisting we order entrees before appetizers were delivered. We had ordered almost all the appetizers so we wanted to see how many entrees to get next. I cancelled my next reservation after this horrible experience.

We went here not long after opening and were a little overwhelmed. We started with cocktails on the main level which were excellent. We were seated right on time in the upstairs dining room. The menu was a little suprising...it had a Canadian twist. The service seemed kind of robotic and the food was just so so. The wine list was nice (as expected) but we were more impressed with the space than the actual food. We decided we'd give it a year and maybe come back.

Waitresss was great, but felt rushed by the hosts on the third floor. At exaclty the two hour mark of our dinner (mind you, we were seated late) the two hosts kept staring at our table as if to say "you're still here??". It's a shame- the decor was gorgeous, the space is breathtaking, but feeling rushed throught the dinner is about as class-less as you can get and really no different than a busy mom & pop shop. I'm hesistant to even think of coming back bc of this. Ruined my birthday dinner.

A glitch with the "computer system" had us waiting 45 minutes for our table, and when we inquired about having a server come over for a drink order...no one ever came. Once upstairs, I would say our service - while pleasant - was pretty slow and often large chunks of time went by before we saw our server again. However, all changed when the food started arriving because it was DELICIOUS. Being a new restaurant, one expects some slip ups in service and even in the kitchen...but the food was just terrific, so our overall experience was really nice and we will for sure be back. After dinner, we went down to the lounge which looks to have great potential, although it was completely empty on this Thursday night. Great decor as well.

My girlfriend and I were needless to say, more than excited to have dinner during the opening weeks and dined Thursday night. We were more than disappointed with our less than stellar 3 star experience. Here is a breakdown of our night from start to finish: Con: Waiting for the valet parking for a solid 10 mins. This dampers the pre-dinner excitement greatly. Con: Checking-in was very unclear. Where to go, who to follow. We were lead to the elevator and left there with no instruction. I guess we are waiting on this slow boat to china? Con: Elevators - for the love of god, why can't I take the stairs! Pro, Pro, Pro: Decor! Spent the first 10 mins of our meal looking around and taking it all in visually. The space is beautiful and

Alpana and John the co-owner have brought a real gem to the Chicago dining scene. The upper level dining room is reservations only, but very romantic and quite. Bar area is active, without being to loud. The cellar is the lower level, a nice change of pace and hide away. The pizza's here are great. Belana and Bar Toma pay very close attentions. The Boarding house had the best Brussel Sprouts with plenty bacon I have EVER HAD anywhere in the world. I LOVED IT. N I will be back very soon, congrats

As expected, Boarding House has a great wine selection and also a good deal of variety to the menu. While all the food was decent there were only a few outstanding dishes, including the pork belly, lobster poutine, scallops, and cheese curd mashed potatoes. Desserts all seemed like afterthoughts however so I recommend skipping them and ordering an extra glass of wine.

The restaurant is essentially brand new. The physical space is outstanding. We felt the service was excellent, especially considering the newness of the establishment. The wine list was wonderful with really interesting selections by the glass. (Not surprising considering Alpena Singh's background). The food was iffy. I started with the Serrano ham. It was sliced fairly thick and that made it quite difficult to chew. My wife had the Kale Cesar Salad and she thought that was good. For mains, my wife had the ravioli. The aroma was fantastic but the pasta was chewy -more so than the usual al dente. My veal was really unusual (essentially a veal meatball artfully presented) and it was good. We'll give it another try in a month or so.

Great food and wine. There was a snafu with our bill - server charged us for 2 bottles of wine instead of 2 glasses of wine. Unfortunately, as I was dining with a client, I did not want to make an issue of it at the table and ending up tipping on an extra $100 of wine. 3-5 days later, I should receive a credit for the overcharge on the wine, but I'm stuck with the extra tip and inconvenience of the 5 phone calls it took to straighten out the bill.

Loved the menu, so many tasty-sounding options it was hard to decide. Portions were larger than expected, even from the Begin section, so we left with full bellies. The wine list was very nice with lots of great options in the $40 to $60 range. We were there at 6pm on a Sunday and our service started out very good but tapered off to a bit slow at the end as the place filled up. Tables around us seated after 7pm were getting pretty impatient waiting for their food, so something was not working quite right in the kitchen. The decor is absolutely stunning, the wine glass and wine bottle chandeliers are out of this world. The music was thankfully at a reasonable volume, unlike so many other new places in the city.

The wine list was extensive and our food was incredible - we had the Lobster Poutine to start, then I had the Hazelnut Crusted Short Rib and my wife had the Balsamic Portobello Tatin, we shared a side of the Cheese Curd Mashed Potatoes and then split the Chocolate Dipped Oatmeal Cookie Sandwich for dessert. Our waiter was on top of things for the duration of our meal and always friendly, as was the rest of the restaurant staff. We had a wonderful evening and we will definitely be returning some time in the near future!

Hosts and server were very nice & open to chatting about the still new restaurant which was great. The food was great; friend and I shared the lobster poutine. I'm not a big fan of lobster but even I thought that was good. The sauce amoricaine on the fries was quite tasty & the cheese curds were plentiful. Had the seared diver scallops which were done perfectly as my knife barely had to touch them to make a slice. Lemon cheesecake for dessert - also delightful. Good portioning her; I'm not a fan of oversized portions at so many places. Definitely going back.
