A word from Jayne's Gastropub
Jaynes is San Diego's trailblazing first and only Brit owned Gastropub. The eclectic menu features gourmet takes on pub classics using local, organic and sustainably farmed produce, meats and seafood. Beverage highlights include the city's most avant garde natural wine list from wine director Jon Erickson, a world class craft cocktail program curated by bartender Sarah Ellis and a broad beer list on draft and in bottles. The beautiful old world interior is reminiscent of London and San Francisco and the decor and feeling rates among the most charming in the entire city. Utterly non-corporate, Jaynes is the local's secret darling on North Park's 30th street.

We loved our visit to Jayne's. We have passed by this place for years and kept saying, one day we will stop in. We finally did and what a little hidden gem! From the food, the ambience and their knowledgeable staff...they all made it a great experience and we can not wait for our next visit. We highly recommend Jaynes.

I ate at Jayne's during my last trip to San Deigo for work. Service was friendly and quick. I had the bangers and mash, which was excellent. The Italian meatballs was a nice first course as well. It would be a fun place to bring a large group as it is pretty loud and vibrant (in a good way).

We were really impressed with the high quality of the food. The service was truly outstanding and knowledgeable. We sat on the outside patio which was extremely pleasant. It was obviously a quiet evening so the noise level was low - I'm surprised they have quiet evenings with food (and drink - they have great beer choices) this good.

  • GREAT outdoor dining in the back!

I didn't realize that this was a "pub" even though the word "pub" is in the name. I'm slow. Anyway, if I'd been thinking, I would have ordered the fish and chips. Instead I ordered the celery/potato gratin. It was okay. It took a long time to come, but we were warned that it would, so I didn't mind, but that said, it didn't blow me away. It was basically potato gratin with tomatoes and cheese. The tomatoes were tasteless, probably because they're not in season. We had the cheese plate for an appetizer which was very good; well done on the bread...toasted every so slightly. My friend had the mussels, which he wasn't that impressed with. All in all, I'd go back, but would order something else.

Jayne's is great. I adjusted my table size from 6 to 11 that morning with no problems. Service and food are always excellent. Sit outside! Everyone in our group had a great time, and those that had never been there before were very impressed.

  • Friends have raved to me about
    OpenTable Diner Since 2010VIP

Friends have raved to me about the food here and I definitely agree that the food was wonderful. We had a very friendly waiter who gave us great service. However, I don't understand how it took over an hour for us to be served our food. We sat down and did take a bit of time to decide on our menu choices but from the time we placed the order until it arrived was just shy of 1 hour. That's way to long considering what we ordered. The waiter mentioned once towards the end of the wait that are food was coming out next but no one else mentioned the long wait. I know the kitchen is small but that long a wait is ridiculous. I felt like the manager or someone could have mentioned it and given a reason but this seemed completely normal to them.

Enjoyed the meal very much, but the wine list is too expensive. I always appreciate some high-end choices, but would like to see some bottles around $38-$42 price point. This is North Park, should be more affordable.

Waitress was excellent!!! Thank you very much. We have dined here before but it had been awhile and she rememberd a drink I had from many months ago. When asked about her recall skills I was duly inspired and impressed. We ate inside but have eaten on the outside patio and it is lovely. The bar has a lively local crowd that can interfere with diners conversations. Every space was taken at the bar due to their happy hour pricing that only occurs at the bar which is my only complaint, and maybe the noise level due to the packed bar area. I do love the look of the restaurant and the dining atmosphere. Parking can be a problem. Good food, drinks, staff and atmosphere! Thanks

Very nice cozy, dim atmosphere. Went specifically for the sea bass fish & chips. After hearing the specials from our waitress, it was very hard not to deviate from my original plan, but stuck with it and was not disappointed. Up there with the best I've had. The wife had the buttermilk fried chicken...very tasty. Very scrumptious looking menu. First timers this time, we have decided to definitely go back.

The Octoberfest menu was what caught our eye. We weren't disappointed. One of us ordered the pork schnitzel platter and the other the bratwurst on a roll plate. We shared the two orders and still had some to take home for lunch. The hefeweissen was a good choice for a beverage.
