A word from The Lion's Share
In addition to modern American fare, The Lion's Share features exotic meats seldom found in other restaurants. The menu pairs well with an interesting wine list focused around small production wineries.

Last, but not least, they offer hand-crafted cocktails considered amongst the best in the city in an eclectic atmosphere with a friendly staff.

We dined at Lion's Share on a Friday night and the place was really hopping! Initially lured in by the eclectic decor and tempted by a menu that featured unusual game, we enjoyed every minute of the vibrant experience. Not only is this a great place to spend an evening; it's great bar and inventive cocktail list invites one to drop in for a drink enroute to somewhere else as well. Our supper of game sausages and grilled octopus, followed by new to the menu entrees of kangaroo and rabbit were artfully cooked and generously served with seasonal vegetables. Add attentive service to the list of what makes a spot great, and you have an exceptional evening! Bravo

  • We were a little disappointed
    OpenTable Diner Since 2010

We were a little disappointed that the kitchen was out of two of the entrees on the menu. My friends wanted the Flat Iron Steak, and the Trout, and neither were available that evening. They both ended up with hamburgers, not quite the dining out experience we were looking for. They also don't serve coffee, tea, or Pelligrino, so my friend just drank water. The martini was very small as well. I think the concept was good, just not what we were looking for that evening.

If you're open to trying something new (and even if you're not) this place is a must-try. I recommend ordering a few starters and sharing mains so that you get to try everything, but that's just me. Also, if you're going to try the burger, go for it "Wild Style"!

Menu was certainly unique and food was tasty. A great respite for the carnivor. Their signature cocktails menu has some unique combinations and they were expertly prepared. The Hunter Thompson is my new favorite!!! Atmosphere was great for an enjoyable evening of savoring food and good company. The only small critique from our visit was the service. It was a little inconsistent. Certainly will not keep me from going back or recommending to friends.

Lots of places try too hard and fail in flames. Lion's Share shows how to craft excellent food and a wonderful experience with ease and simplicity. I live in NYC and will greatly miss having this great restaurant at hand. So those of you who are in SD get over to this tremendous establishment and enjoy some unique plates!

The food and service at this restaurant were very good and the offerings are unusual, with game like wild boar on the menu. The sausage platter was especially good. However, the evening was marred by a level of noise that made talking among our party of four nearly impossible. My ears were actually ringing by the end of the night.

I have been to the Lion's Share previously and on this night the bar scene was overcrowded and very loud. Our table was right next to this area making conversation impossible and our view of butts as people smashed next to our table not a pleasing sight. The staff apologized as the scene was atypical and did provide a free dessert which was quite yummy (bread pudding). Overall the staff are wonderful and the food delicious, we just caught them on a bad night. Highly recommend the French Onion soup.

This place was LOUD, the stools were uncomfortable, the drinks small and the service spotty. And, it's expensive. I also had made a reservation and an hour before the reservation time, I received a voicemail telling me that if I didn't show up within the 15 minutes following the reservation time, the reservation would be given away. When we arrived, I expected the place to be packed, but there were empty tables. What's up with the attitude?

If I could give ten stars for the service, I would. I met a business associate there for dinner and I don't know if I got lucky with the young lady that served us but seriously, she was witty, knowledgeable and made the experience an absolute pleasure. I hope the owner of the establishment realizes what a gem she is. The food was delicious, but again, the server explained the ingredients and delighted our table with every dish she presented with humor and grace. Thank you for a wonderful evening!!!

The antelope sliders were the star of the show. The game meat was definitely the star of the show, between the sliders and the sausage plate. Cheese plate and French onion soup were very good, although not as memorable as everything else. Cocktails were fantastic. Will go back to try wild boar ribs.

My wife and I visited San Diego for her birthday, and I chose The Lion's Share based on previous good reviews. So glad we did! We started off with couple of excellent potent cocktails, (Monk's Gone Wild and the New York Sour), casting a pleasant glow over the noirish atmosphere (see their website artwork to give you an idea). We chose a few of the evening's specials: the grilled octopus with white bean and arugula (outstanding!) along with a dish of mixed olives, and for our main dishes, the Grilled Niman Ranch Hanger Steak and Grilled Local Fish - both tender and seasoned perfectly. Excellent wine selection as well, to accompany our main dishes. Service was friendly and attentive. Worth seeking out if you are in the area!

The chef does a really outstanding job, but for a place that sells itself on having a wild game menu, there is very little wild game to be had. I mean really, they could at least have Bison in their burger instead of the usual beef. The waitress was probably hired to tend bar, as she had no idea what waiting on tables was about.

The food and drinks were very good but the service was lacking. We waited for about 15 minutes before water was poured and 30 minutes until we were asked for drink orders even though the hostess and other waitstaff was standing by the front door chit-chatting. We asked our waitress if she could step up the service, as we were entertaining clients and wanted things to go well. She sent the manager over to apologize and assure us that they would be more attentive. The service was fine after that. I will probably go back but with lower expectations, I'm afraid.

This restaurant is remarkable, from the local artistry that adorns the walls to the chef's respect for the meat. You can't get food or service like this just anywhere. The noise level is just right...quiet enough that you can speak to your companions and loud enough that you feel comfortable carrying on a conversation. We had the flat iron steak and house burger...both were cooked to perfection and seasoned well. We were lucky enough to eat there on a night that all bottles of wine were half off. The restaurant was out of the bottle of wine we wanted and our waitress made a recommendation that was actually better. Service was pleasant and attentive. I can't say enough wonderful things about the butterscotch dessert. We'll return.

The cocktails were outstanding & the bar tenders are easy on the eyes. I was expecting a bit more from the fried squash blossoms. The batter was a bit heavy for my taste. The quail was good, but the salad accompanying the quail was outstanding. However, the service was slow, really, really slow on a Thursday. I will definitely eat here again, just not when I'm in a hurry.
