My wife and I went to the Social Club for our anniversary and enjoyed the food and the wine very much. Our server was very helpful with suggestions and made the evening very pleasant. The salted crème desert was a great way to finish off the meal.

This restaurant has more potential than we got to experience. The service was off, forgot to give us menus, server was over booked on tables and no one came to our table for quite awhile. Think they all stayed up too late the night before. Food was good. The smoked short rib hash was amazing, but need more meat less potato. They ran out of their signature biscuits. Two really good cocktails made by the bartender who was also moving a little slow. Maybe next time.

Recent dining Wednesday, explored their special 50% off wines by the glass - great value- plus quite a few Sonoma area offerings. Server was a little ditzy but pleasant. Paired rich Cabs with pate appetizer, heirloom tomato risotto. EZ location is smack close to downtown parking

2nd time... not so much. The first time we went, I ordered the special, had a lovely fig salad with beef bacon and the fish, service was dyno-mite. Special all the way. The second time, it was kinda noisy, the regular menu items were not very memorable, salad was soggy, my hot tea was tepid and the service was barely so-so. Bad night? One would hope. We might give it another chance but maybe only for lunch instead of a night with elevated expectations.

Excellent ambiance and service! The food was good, but not great. I really liked their menu options, but found that the risotto was too watery, the pork belly not crispy enough and the butterscotch dessert too salty. Great place with lot of potential!

Veggie plate of a soft corn cake in a tasty sauce with roasted veggies was great. The fried chicken was really good this time - the first time I had it it was overcooked and dry, but people love it so I thought I'd try it again. Wednesday nite was good to go because it was quieter than usual and glasses of wine are half off. The problem is that the service staff can never tell you anything about the wines or help you with pairing questions.

This place had a promising start, about a year ago I think, with a congenial atmosphere and good food, a really nice bar scene. I personally wish they didn't have so many TVs, or TVs at all. I think it would make it much more sophisticated and a bit quieter. That said, the food has gotten even better than when they started. It was excellent the food times we were there recently, very fresh, locally sourced (it would have to have been, it was that fresh and delicious), nicely prepared. And their manager/sommelier was great.

  • Moderate Birthday Experience

    Dined on 7/26/2013
I chose this for my wife's birthday dinner because it looked like a cool scene in a convenient but hidden location in downtown Petaluma. The reservation process was very easy through Open Table, parking was right next door, hostess seated us immediately and the energy was vibrant. Menu was simple and offered a nice elegant variety. However, it would have been nice to offer a kids menu. It was about 6-8 minutes before the waitress greeted us and asked for our drink orders (way too long). Although the drinks and salads came out quickly, the dinners took nearly 30 minutes to come out. Then the waitress was almost non-existence and took forever to get us the bill. I'd give it another try but table service and food wait times are a gap.

Menu was very interesting - we tried items that you don't normally find -- roasted asparagus with fried whole egg, and the crispy pork belly with a sweet sauce, very good! For those who are not adventurous, they have fried chicken and hamburgers! The kale thaat came with the chicken was delicious! It is a big place so you can have a big group - there was a band setting up and suppose to play at 9;30 so we weren't there for that. Would surely come back to bring our family. If you don't like to have the bar and band scene, they have an inside dining room - where I suppose you can request to be seated.

It was loud beyond reason. A live musician was playing a keyboard and singing on Father's Day. The music selection was good and the performer was quite good. The problem is that it was too loud. I used to do industrial sound reinforcment including concerts and clubs, so I'm no stranger to high sound pressure levels. In fact I enjoy them, just not at dinner with family. I mentioned the objection to the server who, in turn, went to the manager. I think that made it louder. I detect an attitude problem. I will never, ever go back.

Cute place with live music and energetic bar scene. Tables around bar so noise level and acoustics along with live music makes it difficult to converse at your table. Attentive servers but menu is very limited and menu changes frequently so don't expect to review menu at home and find something listed for that evening. Portions nice size and presented very nicely. Food however heavy on spices especially on vegetables. Fried chicken good and gnocchi. Appetizers almost non existent. Mostly side salads considered as that. Desserts very good.

This restaurant has a good atmosphere & layout but seems to be suited more to dining & after hour social scene. The brunch menu had some breakfast items mixed with items like Mac & Cheese. My braised short rib hash - eggs done fine but the short rib though tender had no flavor. Seems like the idea to open for brunch was done as an after thought.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We had gnocchi for an appetizer that was really good. It was served over sautéed kale with a garlicky sauce. My husband had the salmon over spinach and edemame. It was a nice piece of fish cooked perfectly. I had a smoked Gouda Mac & cheese with bacon. It was to die for. We finished off with the fresh baked cookies & vanilla milkshake. It was really good. Oh, wow. Very yummy food at the SC in Petaluma. Enthusiastic and helpful (even if inexpert) service. Noise level through the roof. Free parking in the lot across the street. One star off food, for a tasty butterscotch pot de creme which had a grainy texture due to overheating eggs, but overall excellent quality and generous portions. Salmon en brodo over leeks and fresh spring peas was heavenly, served rare as specified. GF had a delicious hanger steak. Gouda/bacon mac & cheese with toasted breadcrumbs was the bomb. We will definitely be back.

The energy in the restaurant was great but the food and service didn't match the vibe. It was a very busy night so I can excuse slow service, but our waiter forgot some of our order. We orderd the blistered patrone pepper appetizer - the peppers were wet, like they'd been steamed to rewarm them. I barely detected the salt. My fried chicken entre was a huge disappointment. Slightly warm chicken and very cold potato salad and slimy braised greens. We won't be going back.

Received a groupon for Social Club as gift since we just moved to Petaluma. Apparently the server decided once we mentioned it he was no longer interested in our table or our dining experience. Food was ok, nothing stood out from the risotto starter to the salmon and hanger steak dinner. Presentations were messy on the plate, not sure if that was intentional. I wanted to love the dessert, but stale peanut butter cookies with the pot de creme wasn't a good way to finish. Perhaps it was just because we had a groupon, but I won't be returning.

The food was decent, but unfortunately does not compare to come of the other gems we have in Petaluma. The atmosphere was lively and the ambiance was good. I could see The Social Club being a good place to gather with a group of people for drinks. The problem came with the service. As we were seated the waiter immediately complained to us how busy they were, never cracked a smile, and seemed to forget about us several times. I had to go get myself a condiment from the bar once when the waiter had failed to bring it to the table after asking. The dinner dragged on for 2 hours, everything took a really long time. They were out of steak, which is what three of us wanted to order, so none of us had our first choice and had to settle.

I was truly impressed by The Social Club. We enjoyed wonderful service, not only from our gracious server, but also from the other employees at the restaurant. Additionally, all three of us loved what we ordered (steak, salmon, pork chop). My husband's grandmother is almost 89 and I made a request in my reservation regarding her mobility. They were not only very accommodating, but she also had a wonderful time. I think my husband could eat the cookies/milkshake dessert every night.

Food is very good. Cocktails are inconsistent, they don't have a lot listed on their menu but those that they do have are good, however; if you ask for something classic like a Negroni it's not done well. The bar manager?/male bartender short and muscular seriously needs an attitude adjustment. He has no customer service ability.
