  • A Wecome Addition to Newton Centre!

What a welcome addition to Newton Centre - truly a neighborhood gem! I started with a simple salad - fresh and delicious. For dinner I had the special fish of the day which was hake. It was well prepared - full of flavor and moist. The wine list is small but more than adequate and very well priced! I look forward to returning very soon

This new addition to Newton Centre offers an upscale dining experience with farm fresh well-prepared food. CAVEAT: the portions are not generous and the prices are inflated.(A $12 heirloom tomato plate had 3 thin slices tomato and 3 split grape tomatoes in balsamic reduction.)Rents may be high in Newton Centre, but there's a lot of competition in the burbs these days! Unless they drop the prices or fill the plates, they cannot claim the image of a farmstead's table, even a locally sourced one!

Farmstead is easily one of the best new restaurants in the Boston area. The menu is simple and delicious. They even have a great kids menu ( the burger is almost the same as the excellent one on the regular menu). We would recommend the delmonico steak, the duck , the fish special and the burger. All of the desserts were excellent - the wife of the husband/wife owner chef team does all of the baking fresh each day. The almond cake, fruit tart, chocolate pudding and creme brûlée were well made. The homemade bread is also very good. The service was excellent and the rustic decor is charming. Strongly recommend. We will definitely go back.

I was very impressed, esp by how well-run this restaurant seemed for being so new! I ordered the burger, which I think was one of the best I've had in the area. I immediately recommended the place to other friends who are burger lovers. My friend ordered the vegetable special, which was an eggplant dish and was also quite tasty. This restaurant seems like a great addition to the area, and I look forward to visiting it again.

Three out of the four in our party got the swordfish special and agreed that it was perfectly cooked--slightly seared on the surface, tender all through, yet fully cooked. The house smoked salmon appetizer and beet carpaccio salad were very good, although the special pork terrine appetizer was pedestrian. Farmstead Table is establishing itself as a reliable place for an excellent dinner in Newton.

Friendly, good food, better than decent wine list. Only concern is the number of options. Basically there was a seafood dish, a chicken dish, a steak, etc. Eight or nine options. Locally sourced food (as name indicates).

Food is simple but well prepared. We were very happy with both the steak and duck main courses. Salad/fresh vegetable starters had good ingredients; the marinated vegetables were unusual and interesting. The wine list seems fairly priced. Service was friendly but a bit haphazard during the "shakedown" period. Tables are close, so neighbors' conversations feel a bit obtrusive. Overall, a welcome addition to the area!

Terrific farm to table restaurant. Even though it has recently opened, the chef has his restaurant running smoothly. Fantastic moist roast chicken; duck breast had crisp skin, tender meat (and not fatty!), locally caught hake was perfectly cooked with fantastically sweet local corn relish. Desserts--baked chocolate pudding, nectarine and blueberry tart--were great.

Very friendly staff, excellent quality ingredients, very tasty preparation, nice decor. It all adds up to an excellent little restaurant in Newton Center. One of the best steaks I have ever had. The dessert tart was outstanding, especially the pasty crust. It was hard to choose what to eat so I look forward to going back to try other things on the menu.

Our table was available upon arrival and the wait staff promptly brought water. Our tattooed surely waitress had an attitude from the get go. She described and recommended the speciality cocktails, some which were ordered, and regretfully were not enjoyable. When questions were asked about the ingredients in some of the menu items, which are limited, she said she would check with the chef and let us know. Coming to take our order we asked again about the ingredients since she failed to get back to us. Blame was quickly placed on the manager who she assumed would have come to the table with answers. Presentation of food was good, arrived promptly, although the temperature of some items were cold. Difficult to hear table conversation.

We thought we would give this new place a try. They are still waiting for the crowds to find them but we really liked it. The staff was great. The food was very well done, from the bread to the fresh tomato salad my husband had to our two entrees. Nothing disappointed us and we will be back! We didn't try dessert but one went by and they devoured it, maybe next time. Give it a try but leave a spot for us.

This restaurant just opened in our neighborhood, and we are very happy it has. The concept of farm to table is a great one and it's terrific to have a restaurant dedicated to it so close by. Our food was fresh, nicely flavored, and beautifully presented. Our favorites were the heirloom tomato and goat cheese appetizer, and both seafood specials: grilled scallops and grilled hake. Of course they are still working on the details of the space, which is why I gave a "good" for ambiance, but it is definitely coming along. Am looking forward to my next visit!

At long last, Newton Centre has a really, really good restaurant. The decor is quiet and simple and enhances the excellent food. The waitstaff is professional and very enthusiastic about the chef, the food and the restaurant itself. The food itself is terrific, simply done, allowing the flavors of the food itself to stand out. Our hake was delicious, the chicken equally so, and the ribeye excellent, too. All of our apps were equally good, especially the tomato salad. We will be back for sure!

Love the concept of farm to table. The food is wonderful. Marinated vegetable salad bursts with freshness and flavor. Steak and fish are both expertly prepared - flawless really. I enjoyed my meal and the vibrancy of the restaurant. The service on the other hand needs to catch up and I'm sure it will work the new place kinks out. We placed our drink order and waited 20 minutes - the waiter forgot. He forgot the bread too - we had to ask, and thankfully we did because its prepared fresh daily and delicious! Once we had our food our waiter never checked us again - no wine no water even when we signaled that we needed assistance. Lack of attention made us ready to leave so we skipped dessert.
