A word from Sanraku Metreon
Sanraku Metreon is tucked into Yerba Buena Gardens, located inside the Metreon in SOMA, just a short walk from several of SF's best museums, the Moscone Center, Imax and other movies. We serve only the freshest fish, with a great selection of traditional sushi and cooked dishes in our very complete and imaginative menu. Diners' favorites include: sesame chicken, oyster shooters, whole grilled squid with our memorable sauce, salmon salad, tender and flavorful harami skewers, the lunchtime bento box. We are pleased to serve our Vegetarian Sushi to our non-fish eating diners.
Come treat yourself to the Sanraku Metreon dining experience in our newly remodeled space. Our chefs and friendly staff await you..

Gem of a spot at Metreon (also excellent location on Sutter). Sushi salad is amazingly good as are the gyoza, fall-off-the-bone ribs, sashimi combo dinners. Service was very attentive and polite.

I thought the food here was very mediocre - my husband and I ordered the California roll and a tuna/avocado roll to start - he loved the Cali roll, but the tuna in mine was pretty mushy and completely flavorless. He got his entree (chicken teriyaki that was served with barely cooked chunks of plain vegetables) 25 minutes before I got mine, and I assure you it was not worth the wait. I got the udon with shrimp tempura (made completely soggy by the broth, chicken thigh that was totally unseasoned, and udon noodles in a broth that tasted like it came out of a can). I wouldn't eat here again, unless all I wanted we're Cali rolls.

  • Surprisingly good for a food court

Surprised at the quality of fish, specials, and service at this food court sushi joint. If you need a last minute reservation in the Moscone area, it's worth a visit, but the prices are comparable to non- food court options around the city so if you're planning something special, go somewhere with a better ambiance.

The food was great as per usual but toward the end of the night they left our water glasses empty until we left.

Food tasted like fast food. We would've been better off eating in the mall food court as the quality was the same but the prices were much higher. We were so disappointed and felt we wasted a meal in SF by eating here. This is clearly not authentic Japanese food.

Very good Japanese food. It is in a large food area so it isn't a place you want to spend a lot of time at. Very convenient for the movies or an event at Yurba Buena Center.

  • Service just too bad

Horrible service from both wait staff and kitchen (slow, inattentive, untrained)! One of us ordered a beer. When it came out, the bottle was broken at the top. The server admitted that it broke when they were taking the cap off showing they made a conscious decision to bring the bottle out! He said he would bring another bottle "just to be safe". My friend ordered the bento box and the rest of us got sushi/sashimi. The bento box came out first, but the rest didn't come out until about 15 minutes later, at which time the food in the bento box was cold. Also, my friend who got the bento box ordered a hand roll, which didn't come out until we were all done! My friend tried to cancel the roll, but the server said it was sitting at the counter.

I sat at the Sushi bar, and allowed the chef to serve me whatever he thought was interesting and creative. First I ordered 6 pieces of nigiri. Then 3 more. Then 3 more after that. It was a fantastic experience! Every piece was fresh, generous, lovingly assembled with tiny bits of pepper, or rubbed with lemon, or crowned with roe. Not cheap: $96 for one person including a serving of sake and a generous tip, but I would definitely go back.

Delicious and well priced lunch special. Sit by the windows and you can look out onto Yerba Buena gardens. Random place being inside the Metreon but convenient location.

  • Uninspired overpriced sushi
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006

I have been to Sanraku Metreon for lunch and didn't realize that a) they ratchet up their prices 30% for dinner and b) their food has become uninspired. The service was slow - and she had a very bad english language problem that hampered her understanding of the needs of her customers. for a tray of uninspired sushi and vegetable tempura - I paid $40. I will never return.

The sushi was very good but the sesame chicken was overcooked and swimming in teriyaki sauce. It is very noisy and it is inside the food court of the Metreon. I can't imagine the noise level when there is a movie premier.

This is phenomenal Japanese food. Amazing tastes, freshness. Everything we chose was better than we expected. And the portions are generous which doesn't always happen in Japanese restaurants.

We eat at Sanraku nearly every time we visit San Francisco since it is right near the SFMOMA museum and the Metreon where we often see movies. There are glass walls that look out to the park containing the Martin Luther King memorial fountain, the food is fresh and not expensive. Last visit, I had sushi (always great) and the miso soup with clams--delicious.
