  • I was a bit disappointed in

I was a bit disappointed in this place given what I had heard. We had a series of salads for an appetizer and they were pleasant, but just. Suprisingly bland despite ingredients like roaster beets, peaches, cheese, nuts, greens. My entree was a roasted rib, which was Flintstone proportioned. It came in a overly designed bowl that made it very difficult to eat and get to the cheddar grits beneath. Again, good, but just. We ordered an Arizona wine and were underwhelmed, so we ordered another. It came about 30 minutes later and when we told the server that we no longer wanted it, she got all huffy on us. The place was full of hip 20-somethings and felt more like a pick-up joint than a restaurant.

This was my first visit to Blue Hound and the food was amazing. I went during Restaurant Week and the menu gave me a good taste for everything. My family is from the south so it was great to see soul food items with a bit of a flair. The service at the bar was excellent. The restaurant is located next to the light rail route so you can even avoid driving and have an amazing dinner.

What a fun place! I was excited to find the Bluehound participating in Restaurant Week. From the starter to the dessert with the paired cocktails no one was disappointed. The roasted cauliflower with pistachios, currants and capers offered contrasting flavors of sweet and savory. I think my table mates were envious of my Kentucky fried quail. Positively crispy on the outside, sweet and moist on the inside and definitely 'finger licking good.' Three out four thumbs up for the corn tortilla ice cream served alongside the cheesecake and our evening was complete. The portions were described as smaller sized as part of the special menu. However, they were just 'right' sized for three courses and the drinks. There will absolutely be another visit

Tried Blue Hound for the first time for restaurant week - what a great place! Food is excellent (Sopas, risotto, Mac and cheese, califlower, cinnamon donuts and brownie bites w/Nutella shake) all were great. Service is very good. I would recommend and will definitely be back.

The food was interesting. A few of the dishes were overspiced but for the most part, the chef combined flavors well. Our server was mostly attentive, but it did take forever for our drinks to get made. I might go back for happy hour, but isn't a place I would regularly go to.

Very cool joint. Hip, big city, downtown vibe - which is quite unique for Phoenix. Food was extraordinarily creative (chile popcorn, quail with cornbread, Nutella shake). Everything could have been taken out of the oven a minute or two earlier, but the flavors were delicious. Wait staff was pleasant, attentive, and knowledgeable. They could have used an extra server on staff, as things were a little slow from time to time, but service was never inattentive. Last but not least, the cocktail menu was probably the best I've ever seen - superbly original and well executed. Had a terrific experience and imagine it will be even better as the place matures.

Most couples will find the noise level difficult for easy conversation. The food was pretty good but the service was spotty and then the waiter argued with me over some constructive feedback I was inclined to give over the presentation of my hard to handle short rib. The trendy atomosphere is not worth the noise and uneven service. We will not be back.

We really enjoyed every aspect of our meal here. We liked the dark and rich ambiance, which was upscale and comfortable. Our waiter was very knowledgable about how dishes were prepared to help us make our selections. We had the tater tots, tuna carpaccio and pork belly dinner. Wine selection was nice, as well as some good micro beer. Will return.

We were first time visitors to this establishment. We arrived early and sat in the bar area before we were seated for dinner. The atmosphere was nice. The service was quick and our server was very attentive. He did a wonderful job at explaining the menu to us. I have to say that the cheddar/scallion biscuit starter was devine. My husband had the rainbow trout and I. the Tuna Carpaccio. The food was absolutely delicious. We would definitely visit the Blue Hound Kitchen again for a special occasion.

Service was great! My food was fantastic. Unfortunately one of the dishes ordered by one of our guests was unbelieveably small and he is a big man. We should have insisted that he order something else but he said it was OK. I know he was unhappy The server should have noticed the incongruity of the dish size. The dish would have been OK for a child.

While the dining spot is very comfortable, and allows for ease of conversation, it is the bar area and the food (and drink) that stand out. Almost all of the meals, including the appetizers, come in half and full portions, for easy sharing. As appetizers we shared the warm herbed nuts which had a good presentation and were delicious. we also shared the large portion of "tater tots" which was my favorite of the evening. The tater tots were warm and crunchy with the taste of smoked pork on the tongue, and they were gone in a flash. The mussels in beer were tender and cooked perfectly, but the beer was too heavy for the delicate mussels. The other had a Fred Flintstone size short rib which was tastily and juicy.

Sharing plates was great, because we were able to try some things we might not have tried otherwise. I really enjoyed the patty melt appetizers, the deviled eggs and the spicy caramel popcorn, which was fun and different. However, while we thought it would be interesting to see what spin they put on a fried bologna sandwich, it was dripping in grease, and unappetizing. The dinosaur kale salad was so-so, and could definitely use some zip in the dressing, and the croutons were chewy (stale?). Definitely going back - I'll just try something else on the menu.

Had lunch reservation for 2 and arrived on time. Hostess proceeded to seat a party before us, but that arrived after us and that did not appear to have a reservation. The hostess then suggested we sit at the bar! The barstools look nice, but are very uncomfortabe. I ordered the Yellowfin tuna sandwich for $14 and was entirely displeased. It was way too salty and generally not good. My colleage ordered the Heirloom Tomato Salad for $9. We were both immediately surprised by its puny size. The "salad" was barely more than a slice of tomato and some sauce. Overall, the place looks great but the food needs substantial improvement. For now, their menu accomplishes just one thing: Emptying your wallet!

I was in Phoenix on business and this is exactly the kind of place I like to seek out when I travel. The space is modern with clean lines and generally dark colors, but not over the top. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive and didn't try to steer us in any particular direction on food choices. My friend and I shared several small plates and absolutely everything was perfectly prepared without being over the top. The pork belly sopes were a particular favorite of mine, but kudos to the kitchen on prepping perfect roasted asparagus-- harder than it sounds. The bar didn't disappoint either, with nicely prepared, well-balanced cocktails. Mixology is fashionable again, thankfully, and this bar knows how to do it right.
