A word from Benihana - Bethesda
Welcome to Benihana and a dining experience unlike any other! If you’ve never been to Benihana before, let us tell you what you can expect: Our guests are seated at communal tables in groups of eight to ten, where your personal chef will perform the ancient art of Teppanyaki. Watch as we slice and dice, preparing a meal that will dazzle your eyes as well taste buds, whether you choose mouth-watering steak, tender chicken or succulent seafood.

Or you can visit our sushi lounge where a talented sushi chef will prepare the freshest sashimi, maki and signature sushi rolls with the same flair that made Benihana a legend in Japanese cuisine. Smaller tables and more intimate seating is available in the lounge or bar on a first-come, first-served basis, whether you’re looking to enjoy one of our delicious Benihana Teppanyaki entrées or our amazing selection of sushi!

Benihana has been one of our special occasion restaurants for years, it never disappoints. We always choose the teppan steak and chicken combination and we always enjoy the chef's performance as a central part of the evening. (We were seated with two couples - one pair stayed on their cell phones throughout, and one appeared to be quarreling and did not enjoy the show - most rude and disrespectful to the chef!) I also had the sake flight, a sampler of three sakes ranging from slightly dry to very sweet. Everything was excellent. Service, quick and attentive. Our steak was cooked exactly as requested, chicken was tender and delicious, the chicken fried rice was very good and amusingly prepared, and the three sakes were a real treat.

I have been to this location many times. This is the first time I sat in the sushi bar area. Sushi was good and the happy hour prices were great. My entrée was not very warm and not up to the usual quality. Server was okay, disappeared for a while.

I would frequent this restaurant as a child for special occasions. I remember once I came with a bunch of friends and our fathers and had a private room where we had to Take our shoes off and kneel at the table, it was such an amazing experience. The service was so authentic with Japamese women wearing kimonos and Japanese chefs who were super talented and exciting. Throw all of that out the window, such a rip off, there is nothing authentic about the place, it's such a sham and so disappointing! The food was decent but that's not why you go there!!! Sadly we will not return, so sorry my kids won't have the same experiences as I did as a child there.

My son loves this restaurant, that is why we go to it once or twice a year. It is very noisy, but fun to watch the food prepared in front of you with a little show from the cook. The food is prepared and delivered to you in multiple stages, which is not the way I prefer to eat - but it is freshly cooked for sure. The quality is average to good, depending on your selection. Value for your money is good, a complete meal is provided. Not for gourmets, but very popular and worth a try.

Went to Benihanas because it was the original Japanese tepanyaki. The place looks like it has seen better days. Reservation was for 630, wasn't seated until well after 7. Wait staff was attentive, the cook was polite, professional but it looked like he didn't want to be there. Food was ok, simple grilled steak, shrimp, chicken etc. Probably won't return, not good value for $ and very disorganized.

I was thoroughly disappointed with our visit. I have not been to Benihanas in many years and I figured this would be a perfect place to take my fiance for Valentines day. BIG MISTAKE. Everything took forever from drinks at the bar, to my pepsi at the dinner table. Many times they forgot items for the table including my two soups (I do not like salad) and forks. The food was waaay overpriced due to a limited menu for VDAY and the food was awful. There was absolutely no flavor to anything we ate and to wrap it all up, they didn't even have enough ice cream for our table, although that was part of the meal we paid for. The didn't offer anything in exchange and no discount. WOW. I will definitely not be back anytime soon, if ever.

This was our first time at Benihana. The receptionist was extremely rude, I asked if I could push it back by 15 minutes and she literally said, "No, it's Valentine's day - there is nothing I can do for you. If you don't show up, we'll have to give up your spot"... she could have been nicer in the way she delivered the message. I knew that the chances were slim, but thought I'd try. I arrived on time and was seated. My boyfriend was late. It was my first time so I wasn't sure how it worked. The waitress came around to take orders, but never said that everyone had to order at the same time. So I said, I would wait and she said, okay hold on. Then the receptionist came over and said, ma'am if you don't order, you'll have to leave.

Went with niece and nephew - food was greasy and the seafood Diablo, well, had very little seafood!! The chef was not authentic and knew two lame tricks... one - making a chicken the other the choo-choo train. Chicken trick was OK. Sakura and other Japanese restaurants - IMHO - have been much better and more cost effective.

Had a reservation for a party of 4 at 1030pm. We first went to the bar, bartender was great!. When my other guest arrived and we got sitted, The lady took our orders and all was well. Then we asked for another drink at 11 we were told bar is closed and it was never announced to us it was gonna be closed shortly. Then we asked for a meal to go, was told the same thing about the kitchen... Was very dissapointed from that point. We asked for a manager and she told us she would accomodate us

I had been hearing for years that this place was great. The food, scenery and service were all just ok. Nothing to brag about. The food needed more flavor, and there was no soy sauce or salt and pepper on the table and it definitely needed it. I asked for those things, and got them 20 min later and at that point my food was cold. The good part is that everything tasted fresh.

The restaurant wasn't bad, it was my first time dining at Benihana, but I think that for me I didn't live up to it's name. I've had better hibachi for less. The food was more or less bland, the service was decent, I had to wait a bit to get another drink, but for me it just wasn't worth it. If a friend wanted to go, I wouldn't talk them out of it, but it'd have to be a semi-special moment.

The food at this Benihana is quite good, and the experience of having our meal cooked at the table in front of us is lots of fun just like any other hibachi grill. For the price, I thought the quantity of good was a bit lacking - other hibachi grills I have frequented provided larger portions of fried rice and vegetables. I left satisfied, but not full (though some might prefer that). The entertainment was also lacking. Our chef performed limited tricks while cooking, and they seemed quite simple to me. Use of open flame was absent - and could have added an element of excitement to the presentation.

Across from is was about 12 people in a group. Way more than it should have been for habachi table. We had two empty seats but our chef had already come out and we had already started eating. THREE people came over after the fact to stay eating with us. They ordered good after the chef fixed us horrible tasting hard rice. Not to mention he didn't give one of my six friends her white rice so she ended up waiting another 20 minutes for that...the he randomly started cooking for the other three ticky individuals and our food ended up getting cold. He fixed rice for them twice. All of our orders were put on hold and we've already waited 45 minutes by now. More I could say but overall HORRIBLE experience

We are regulars at Benihana and sometimes it's great; other times, not so much. One thing to beware for newcomers is you never know who you'll be sitting with. Tonight we were stuck with a very nasty woman who complained about everything (nothing) to anyone who would listen and acted as if the restaurant's job was to cater to her and her family. The end result was that we and another couple were short-shrifted all evening, so her moodiness impacted us all. Note also for those who order chicken and/or steak that Benihana cooks all the seafood first, so you'll be left waiting to eat until everyone who's ordered seafood is served - also an issue tonight. And, a few things (mustard sauce, sesame seeds, wait staff) have changed for the worse.

BeniHana does not live up to its beautiful website and reputation. The service was good, and the food delicious, but the ambience and Japanese vibe was missing. The sushi could have been fresher, the salad was a bag bland mix with a separated ginger dressing, for some reason the onion-volcano turned into a choo-choo train. The meat was brought to the table on cafeteria trays instead of neatly on the chef's cart. There was no screen separation of the hibachi tables and the lighting was not set correctly, so it was loud, one could not hear the server, and not intimate. The tea was brought not in Japanese ware but English mugs. The dessert was an after thought and generic. Not as sophisticated as was expecting for the price or cuisine.

For my 24th birthday, I was excited and had a great dinner at Benihana's on November 30th, I would have given it 5 stars for everything. After coming home and bragging about the great dinner to my now, 13 year old nephew, he wanted to also go. We went on the 11th, and had a very tasteless dinner, the tricks weren't as good and the service wasn't good, especially with keeping our drinks filled. Maybe it was just a bad night... I hope they don't have any more of those nights. On a good note, their drinks are the BOMB!

Food was ok, had better at other Benihana's. Chef had great personality and was good at engaging the table. Our waiter Luse was very good, but just saw so many staff walking around talking and not attending guests. The air was blowing extremely cold at our table, had to ask one of the managers to adjust. Service was very slow to start. It took 10 mins of sitting at the table before our waiter finally was available to take our drink order, then another 10-15 mins before we actually got our drinks. The atmosphere was like one giant kids party in the entire restaurant. It wasn't the quiet cosy atmosphere you get at some of the other locations. Won't go back to this location, but still willing to try others.

The waitresses are never consistent. We have only had one great waitress. The others have been forgetful, missing throughout dinner and short tempered. The food isn't consist either. Depending on the cook your food maybe bland or flavorful. Our favorite chef was Ricado. Taking a break from Benihana.
