I had a wonderful time at Puritan & Company. I thought the service was really great all around - the hostess, bartenders, wine director and wait staff all treated us really well. I had the Grilled Sausage and the Grilled Cobia, and they were both really tasty. My friend had the Lamb Belly (with orange moxie sauce) and the Lamb Chop and Lamb Sausage. The presentation on the Lamb Chop and Lamb Sausage was really interesting. I'm excited to go back and eat at the charcuterie bar!

  • Fabulous meal and great ambience!

Our party of five just had an amazing dinner! Will Gilson has developed an unusual menu with an enormous variety of tastes and textures. High points included the "cauliflower latte" and the homemade sausage. The scallop appetizer was delicate and delicious, and the tiny pickled mushrooms a delightful touch. The wagu steak was perfectly cooked, with a wonderful potato cake and grilled baby carrots with the tiniest tender brussel sprouts. The duck was savory and tender, and the black eyed peas an unusual and tasty side dish. Dessert was worth forcing ourselves to eat...the Cookie Dough Sundae was decadent and easily devoured. The lemon curd was a more delicate option, and the rum cake outstanding. Such a fun meal!

The food is excellent - definitely worth checking out just for that. We only had starters (4 between 2) and dessert but they were all delish and good winter food. The wines by the glass were interesting/eclectic but what we had was very nice and apposite. The bottle list is fairly extensive with an emphasis on Mediterranean regions/styles. Our server was perfection: engaged, knowledgeable, helpful, professional. It's a jumping place on a Friday night, noise level was OK but maybe a touch high for us. My only niggle was that the tables were a tiny bit too close together, but that said, conversation wasn't a problem and we weren't disturbed by our neighbors so it's a minor thing.

I'm very lucky I live just down the street from this place. The food was truly delicious and very reasonably priced for what it is. Their mix of small plates, salads, and big plates really encourages sharing. I recommend ordering a few different things to try out. Also, their beer and wine selection is really nice. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the ambiance was unique, fun, and energetic. I will definitely be returning!

All the food we had was quite excellent. The house rolls and brioche (with the bone marrow dish) were all delicious (we were told it was the pastry chef's doing as well – great job!). The mood was relaxed, we weren't made to feel rushed, the wait staff was very attentive and amiable to my 3.5 year old nephew as well.

Really nice space - sort of sophisticated open farmhouse feel. Everything we had was excellent - gougeres and bluefish pate to start, salad w/ foie gras & cracklings, grilled cobia app special, and lamb chop & lamb sausage dish which is basically a big lamb lollypop coated in lamb sausage, corndog style. Service was excellent - friendly and professional. Definitely will go there again.

The aesethic at Puritan & Company - both food-wise and in the decor - is stunning, but not overdone. There's an earthy feel to the vibe and the presentation. Food arrives plated on slabs of slate, chunks of wood or simple white dishware. Mason jar lights dangle from the ceiling. Our server Kristen was an avid foodie herself and so much fun to talk to. From our seats at the charcuterie bar we could see the kitchen in action. Lots of bearded, tattooed cooks -- way better than tv ;-) Chef Will Gibson stood in the doorway, expediting and carefully designing each plate. He finished dishes with sprigs of pine and other unexpected elements. The hay roasted carrots with ash oil and caraway were heavenly. I looking forward to going back asap!

Good stuff overall. I did not care for my entree, the lamb chop with lamb sausage but this was probably just a poor choice for my palate. Everything else was good, service was a little too quick at the start of our meal but slowed down and was fantastic. Very friendly, unpretentious, and helpful. Beer and wine selections were good, and decor was great.

Overpriced small plates and averagely priced entrees. I was expecting more from Will Gilson and left feeling disappointed. The rolls and the Bibb salad were delicious and very flavorful. But the scallop starter was weird. The herb veil was just a layer of gellatin that didn't add anything to the dish and overshadowed the scallops, which smelled fishy. The cobia itself was good, but why pair it with a side of bitter excarole? And the pease pooridge it was sitting on should be left to Puritan times. It woiuld be great to see more vegetables on this menu, (like a side of the legendary pureed parsnips) and a vegetarian main entree to appeal to the local clientele. This is Cambridge after all.

Loved my experience at Puritan & Co. Restaurant was very busy, but incredibly I could still hear all 3 of my companions without straining or raising our voices. Greeted at the door by a hostess who seemed genuinely happy to see me, and offered our reserved table immediately (quite welcome for me, as I'm 5 months pregnant). Wine list was EXCELLENT - interesting and thoughtful selections, and not so long as to be overwhelming. The food highlights for me were the lamb belly starter, the amazing rolls (are those the duck fat brioche that are paired with the bone marrow starter?), the cobia collar special, the steak, and the parsnip cake dessert. Will definitely be ordering the steak as my own entrée next time. Can't wait to return!

We had a lovely dinner at Puritan. It was our first time at the restaurant and we really enjoyed the great food, ambiance and service. We had foi gras torchon, lamb belly, lamb sausage, chicken soup, and pumpkin ice cream. Everything was delicious, offered unusual, subtle and exciting flavor combinations, overall a very stimulating experience for the palate! The restaurant is urban chic and very attractive. The service was very good and attentive. Upon making a reservation I wrote it was for our anniversary, and we received complimentary prosecco and a very attentive service which made us feel special even though it was our first time at Puritan. Prices are very reasonable at this true neighborhood gem. Can't wait to be back for more!

This place has potential. Lovely staff. Fun room. Interesting wine list. Grilled oysters arrived tepid and uninspired. Quahog stuffies were overwrought and lost the flavor of the clam. Soups were yummy. A rich chicken and silky cauliflower soup were filled with flavor. Salads were perfect--fresh greens with tasty dressings judiciously applied. Main courses were thoughtfully conceived and well executed, but not stunning in the "I'm dying to go back and have that chicken-meat-fish" dish again. All that said, I will go back, because this restaurant has the ingredients to become great.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2011

More than anything else, the food is the reason to go and to come back. To start, the bread was hot, salty and buttery; the oysters wonderfully briny. Although the seafood and lamb dishes we had were good, the standout was the duck: the skin was salty and crispy, and the meat was tender and flavorful without tasting gamey. Wine options are excellent; the Priorat and the rose from Provence were standouts. The restaurant is surprisingly big for Cambridge, and is large-group friendly - however it is a bit noisy; voices seem to echo in the large space. The restaurant was quite staff intensive, and service was friendly but a bit slow - however, I'd guess some of this was due to the fact that this was their first week. I'll be back.

We LOVED our experience at Puritan!!! We're over fussy restaurants, but we are always in search of excellent food served by a down to earth and knowledgeable staff. The food experience started with warm, homemade soft white rolls with the most incredible butter that they make inhouse. It only got better from there - every course was absolutely delicious. We had the duck and the chicken - excellent. The staff is outstanding - when we asked about wines to accompany our food they offered multiple tastings. There was a palpable sense of comraderie amongst the staff that made us feel like welcome guests.
