Saturday at 630PM was busy. We reserved table for 4. They were ready for us. Ordered house Chardonnay,it was pretty awful. Sent back and ordered a bottle of our choice. Waiter seemed efficient, but had difficulty findig him when we needed him. Food was fair. Caeser salad was presented very differently and flavor was fair at best. Garlic mashed potatoes were not on the menu. They made a poor choice in removing them from the menu. Last visit these 2 items were excellent. Shrimp in the Scampi were small and looked like they were from a can. Not something you would expect from a seafood restaurant. This was a Father's Day meal celebration and the food and service was not somethig to celebrate.

The food was uninspired, but not bad. The seating outside is nice, but it's not really on the water. You're on a canal, across from an office building. Service was helpful and friendly. Oysters on the shell came out much later than another app because two different stations don't coordinate (one in kitchen, one at bar). Seriously, there are much better seafood restauarants that are on the water on the North Shore.

The only problem was the restaurant deck faces West so that at dinner time the Sun shines directly on the deck. There is a partial awning but it only works for overhead sun. Some tables have no shade/unbrella at all. Some diners used menus to shield themselves from the Sun.

Delicious food swiftly produced, but once the place filled up, the service was slow. It was hard to flag down our waiter because he was overburdened. He was charming and always upbeat, but he was forgetful and stretched too thin. Made for a long evening.

I've enjoyed Finz for the past several years. I used to particularly enjoy the bar area when they had a very charasmatic bartender named "Murph." He was great with all of the customers and actually had a following of his own. He is no longer there, which is disappointing, but the food is still very good.

The restaurant is on a marina and provides a good view of the water. Outside seating is available. It is located in historic Salem, Ma. on Pickering whart. Our food was prepared well and our server was able to answer any questions we had and gave excellent and friendly service. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a nice night out with good ambience, food and service. I would definitely go back.

I love their outdoor dining, but the clam bake was disappointing this time - the lobster was dry and not very tasty. The salad that I ordered as an appetizer was great, though, and had some lovely vanilla vinaigrette on it. But when you get a bad lobster in a place like this, it almost ruins the whole experience.

The food is always good at Finz. We were a party of four and each entree was very good. What was bad was the service. The service at Finz is usually slow for some reason but this time it was at a snails pace. Why do we keep going back? I keep asking myself that and the reason is the food and the great outdoor seating. Be prepared to be disappointed but we are giving Finz a rest...maybe they will fix the problem. If not then their days will be numbered. Other places with the same views have failed. Finz WAKE UP!

We picked this spot just based on location and availability and got very, very lucky. It was a beautiful evening and we got a prime outdoor table overlooking the marina. The view would have been sufficient, but the food was terrific!! The fried oysters were a completely decadent appetizer, and perfect for sharing. The salad was so-so, but the good seafood more than made up for that. Terrific all-round experience.

  • Not Happy With Our Visit
    Meg59
    Dined on 5/26/2012
Very unhappy with our experience. Young staff with little experience. Dining area near bar was very hot on warm day. Portions of fish for the cost were ridiculous (small). Manager even tried to justify how a 1/4" thick piece of swordfish was the same cut to everyone. (No New Englander wants a 1/4" slice! We know our swordfish). Only upside was that he didn't charge for it and brought out another piece he said was "special cut". $26.00 is normal charge. Even so, waiting for a redo is always annoying when the person you're with is eating their meal.

My scallop dish was excellent, but my husband's lobster roll was not up to the level it should have been for a seafood restaurant. The meat looked shredded and had very little taste. Where were the chunks of lobster meat one expects to find in a $20 lobster roll? The creme brulee was was divine.

We had a party of 7 to celebrate a graduation. We ate at :00 on a Sunday, so the restaurant was not crowded, especially as most patrons were sitting on the deck enjoying the sun. Food was excellent and everyone with a wide range of tastes found something to like. Seared scallop with gnocchi was particularly good, with a nice variety of flavors and textures.

  • Good brunch but lousy paella
    OpenTable Diner Since 2010
    Dined on 5/13/2012
We booked it for Mother's Day and we arrived at the end of the brunch (2:45 PM), so my expectations were not that high. My wife (the mother in this case) enjoyed the brunch so I was happy that she was happy. Still, the $39.99 price was rather high for what was being offered and it should have included the drinks to justify it. I ordered from the menu a Paella. It was nowhere near what I expected: not a lot of rice and rather squishy. It seemed as if the chef piled up multiple types of seafood in a hurry, inlcuding what appeared to be fried calamary (leftovers???). Very low quality. Staff was friendly and helpful so no issues there.

I used to frequent this restaurant a few years back when I worked in Salem, MA. At that time, it was a high class place with very good food. Took my mom there for Mother's Day this year and, I hate to say it, this was the worst brunch food that I've ever had. Everything had been cooked - overcooked actually - hours before. It was all of the standard fare - scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, mac and cheese. Even the ham that they offered was dry and overcooked. Not sure what's happening with this restaurant, but I would steer clear of it until something radically changes.

Very pleasant,& tried very hard, but didn't bring tabasco sauce(after promising to bring it right away) until after guests finished his oyster appetizer. Forgot to bring one guests salad dressing-asked 2x for it. Didn't bring rolls/until we saw other guests get it,we asked for some. LONG wait in between food delivery. We tipped over 20% because she was new, & it was very busy Sat, nite. I'll be back-love Finz but we'll just make sure we tell waitress if we are in a HURRY/or if we want spend evening there. 3 guests had b-stff lobsta-very good.
