We had a wonderful lunch on Saturday as we celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. We spent two nights at Boars Head Inn March 30 and 31 in 1969 while on our honeymoon. It was fun to see the place where we began our life together. The lunch was delicious and the setting beautiful. Thank you. Lorraine and Hartley Dewey

We had a nice time! Server seemed nervous and a bit clumsy, but was very pleasant and recommended excellent sparking wine. We were just out for a nice dinner after a long week, and this fit the bill for us. Other folks appeared to be celebrating special occasions, which made for a nice atmosphere. Meats were properly cooked and portioned. Excellent soups and sorbet.

This restaurant is outstanding in every way. We have enjoyed our dining experience there many times and have never been disappointed in any way. The food is excellent. The staff is perfect. The setting is so soothing that our baby fell asleep. Our older child felt comfortable and welcome. This restaurant is an excellent choice for celebrating special occasions or for any reason at all.

We had never been to the restuarant before. We happened to stay at the Inn which made it quite convenient. THe food was delightful. and our waiter was a gem!Particularly liked the Butternut squash soup! THe tablecloths and napkins were linen - A very nice touch! The glassware sparkled! However, the one holders on the table that contained the sweeteners was cracked and had a chip out of it. That defeated the whole purpose of having a beautiful "well-groomed" table!

Th Boars Head was a special and memorable dining experience. The layout of the dining room gave us a feel that we were not one of just hundreds of guests packed in to serve, but one of a few invited guests for the evening. We made reservations a day in advance for Valentines and enjoyed a set four course menu. The pace of service was perfect and choosing each course was so fun. We had the chance to try things for the first time ever, an advantage of having a narrowed down menu to encourage new things. The environment not just inside the restaurant but on the grounds of the hotel resort were splendid and scenic.

Me and my boyfriend went on Valentine's Day, so there was a set 4 course menu ($75 a person). We were able to select from several choices.... though they were good, service was very very slow because it was crowded. It took about 45 minutes for each course to come out... portions were pretty small and overpriced as well. If you wish to dine here, I suggest going on a less crowded day!

Our dining experience was fantastic. We are trying to spend as much time together as possible before the birth of our child and the restaurant acknowledged that by having complimentary sparkling cider ready when we arrived and the server congratulated us as well as personalized service by using our name. Each time I have visited the restaurant has been exceptional with recognizing special occasions and creating a memorable experience.

Wonderful special occasion restaurant!! The waitress addressed us by our names--a definite plus! The roaring fire made it very romantic and it was still decorated with Christmas lights and garland. The Bistro, adjacent to the Old Mill Room, had a very relaxed feel and we had drinks before and after dinner there. Bartender was very helpful in helping me choose something special to drink after dinner. We would definitely go back to both!

We lived in Charlottesville/Ednam Forest for three years and Boars Head Sunday brunch was a regular treat. when we come back to C'ville, sunday brunch at Boar's Head remains a must. my daughter and I look forward to the eggs benedict for days. my husband has his own favorites. he claims the ham is the best he's ever had. we've gone in there dressed really well, and dressed in running clothes and flip flops --- we've never had anything but a really really nice time. nor have we ever left anything but stuffed to the gills, because the food is so good you can't stop.

I ordered lobster bisque, seared tuna with a watercress salad and scallops served with crisp potatoes. All was prepared correctly but nothing was impressive (especially considering the prices and rating of this restaurant). The bisque was good, but I've had many better. Tuna was cooked well, but there was nothing impressive about the flavor. The accompanying watercress salad didn't jibe well with the spicy sauce. For my entree, I paid $33 for three scallops topped with potato chips. I felt this was a total rip off. Basically $10 per scallop with an extra $3 for potato chips and sauce. I took chocolate cake back to my room and it was also good, but not impressive. Service was fine but not great. I was left wondering about the AAAA rating.

We had a wonderful table with a nice view of the lake and were well taken care of by our server Kate. We couldn't have asked for a nicer evening. We were pleasantly surprised when our desserts arrived with a "happy Anniversary" greeting atop them. Thank you for making the night so special!

About halfway through the meal, a large and loud group was seated next to us, even though the restaurant was largely empty. It was difficult for my wife and me to carry on conversation. The food and service were excellent. We were on vacation and in the area visiting Monticello, of course, and were happy to find a really good, quiet place for dinner. It is not an inexpensive, family type of place, that you would eat in every night, but overall, our meals were really great! The only real negative thing we could say, is that we were not as impressed with the "Sticky Toffee Bread Pudding" dessert as we thought we would be and would probably skip getting the dessert if we ever get back to the restaurant.

All of the food was delicious and the wait staff are well trained (serving the women first and always from the right). I would definitely return for a special occasion. It's very expensive for food ($122 for 4 for brunch + tip and no alcohol), but also a very nice treat. The whole rest of the day and even the next I kept wanting more of those delicious dishes. The ambiance is rustic beamwork against white plaster and wooden furniture. The lighting was not very atmospheric but cheery. Perhaps dinner is more moody. I intend to go back for a family birthday celebration.
