There food has generally been ok; however, today, the rainbow trout I ordered was overcooked and so oily that I couldn't eat it. I sent it back and asked for the tuna salad, which was also overcooked and very oily, even though I asked for the dressing on the side.

The restaurant is in a great location for dining by the window and watching the activities around DuPont Circle. The food is as consistent and authentic as my best friend's 90 year old italian Mom's homemade pasta - simply awesome . The staff are excellent and very prompt. We went this past Sunday for brunch/lunch while they were serving the restaurant week menu as well as their brunch menu. Since I cannot have any of the desserts listed on the prix-fix menu (milk allergy), then I opted to get the tuna salad which was delicious. The husband ordered a simple pasta dish, which he also enjoyed. They brought us bread (we asked for marinara sauce on the side for dipping), and ordered two glasses each of prosecco for only $5/each! Fantastic price for a very generous pour of prosecco(they also had bloody marys, mimosas and bellinis for $5 as well). We were able to sit outside under the awning on a very lovely day. All in all, it was lovely and we would recommend it to others.

From the Orzo with Squid Ink, to the ravioli based in a light cream sage sauce, the food was and always is excellent. This was a special occasion and my friends, one who hadn't been to La Tomate in years were in love with everything that lavished in their mouths. My favorite libation is their Bellini, a fantastic compliment to what ever you're having to eat. I would recommend La Tomate in a heartbeat!

This is the 3rd time I've eaten in this restaurant. The last time was a late lunch snack in their outdoor patio. The weather was perfect, the wine was very good, the salad and bread excellent. But the service was not. This time was with a friend from Lebanon whom I haven't seen in a year. Lots to talk about and an inside table was great, except for our noisy neighbors, but really, the ambience is excellent. No loud music, nice and quiet. The food was great, the bread and the wine excellent. The service was again, rushed, disconnected and not good. The hostess was lovely, and really accomodating, but the sous cadre of servers, as well as the waiters, don't seem on the same page, and the service is the problem in this restaurant.

My husband suggested La Tomate. He works in Dupont Cr & has had good food & service there. Got a great table but hostess & wait staff were rude. Told hostess we were there with reservation but she never checked us in so halfway through meal other hostess came over to confirm who we were, then said we had not checked in. What??? Had the special, chicken stuffed w/fontina, Prosciutto & brown sauce. Soooo salty. Never offered dessert. This was to celebrate a special occasion on a Thursday so not sure what the issue was. Maybe the boss had just chewed out the staff?

The best Branzino preparation I have ever eaten; truly mouth-watering. Fresh Branzino Mediterranean sea bass baked with thinly sliced potatoes, shallots, garlic, tomatoes, capers and black olives. The fish was cooked perfectly and paired with simple, delicious ingredients. Third time dining here. The waitstaff is always kind, the food is better than good. Enjoyable, easy-going atmosphere.

Second time dining at this restaurant and it was still fantastic! The host/hostess were really wonderful and were able to very graciously accommodate us with our 2 last minute additions to our reservation. We were seated outside after being asked if that was amenable. From the time we sat down to the time we left, the outdoor seating area was well-lit and quite beautiful. Wait staff was very good - attentive but not overbearing. Food was fantastic! Will definitely be coming back here whenever I'm in town

The food was very traditional of a classic italian restaurant. Not fussy, straight forward. Portion sizes were generous. The only issue was that the service (on a Thursday night) was very slow. We did not get our appetizers until about an hour after sitting down. The waiters were very friendly and helpful, but there just isn't enough of them.

Great Italian food in this small restauarant. There is a nice outdoor patio, and since the restaurant sits on a corner, it is a great place to watch people. We were seated promptly, and served by a responsive, friendly waiter. The food was excellent, and the wines were reasonably priced. Portions were moderate -- not so huge that they can't be finished, but not so small that one feels cheated.

What a pleasant surprise. I liked our indoor seats with a view of the patio and the street. The Italian bread was decent. We ordered the Caprese salad which I am sure would have been good had we been served good tomato. The tomato had no flavor and was slightly mushy. The Italian sausage we had prepared as a side dish was delicious!! Great herbs and spices. My bow-tie pasta w/ diced prosciutto, mushroom & cream was prepared perfectly, and it was very tasty too. I can't quit thinking about the wonderful flavor and al dente pasta. My friend had the arborio rice, wild mushrooms, and imported mascarpone, which he I loved and I did too. Food better than average. Atmosphere fair. Service was good. I will definitely visit La Tomate again an
