A word from Pera Soho
Pera Soho expands upon the exploration of Eastern Mediterranean cuisine first embarked upon by midtown’s Pera Mediterranean Brasserie when it opened in late 2006 on Madison Avenue to become a “Top 5 Newcomer” in the 2008 Zagat Survey. A downtown-ized version of the original restaurant with an edgier approach to food and ambiance and with the pursuit of pleasing all five senses, Pera Soho embraces the Pera hallmark of presenting a culinary experience firmly rooted in centuries-old Eastern Mediterranean traditions, while incorporating contemporary Western trends, seasoned with New York City gustatory flair, without any compromise of the essential integrity of the food.

Pera Soho offers some of the signature dishes that made the first Pera so popular, while also taking diners’ palates on a more adventurous journey through the Eastern Mediterranean in a tri-fold setting: indoors, private garden, and rooftop patio for private events.

The food was either served warm, rather than hot or raw, rather than medium. In addition, although the restaurant was deserted, we were seated next to a noisy couple. The waiter, however, new to the place, was very friendly.

I thought the med inspired food had good taste and great presentation, but the small plate special for the evening was way over priced at almost $20. Grilled clamari salad was good and reasonably priced. Stuffed dates were very very dry. Traditional cocktails (Old Fashion) were way over priced at $17 per drink.

I would recommend the place with some reservations -- food good and interesting, ambience is nice - but for wine lovers, beware! I chose a moderately lower priced wine, the waiter came out and showed me the bottle and it was the wrong one. When I pointed it out (politely of course) before he opened it -- he was a bit curt and said "well, the manager would have to get the right bottle" so there was a considerable wait, after which he did an amateurish job of opening it. There were 8 of us, so we ordered a second bottle of something else - which was on the edge of being corked. We just didn't fuss after the first bottle drama, but would have if we were in a more reliable place. Food was okay.

I really liked the place. I was specifically looking for something, equally appropriate for a BD celebration and a good old catching-up session with friends, and I really couldn't make a better choice. Our group of 5 was in a semi-private room that was open enough to the main sitting area not to be too isolated, yet had a nice "dining room" feel to it. The food was excellent, the service was immaculate, and overall it was just a great stress-free experience. I wouldn't recommend this place if you are looking for something outstandingly trendy, hot or "bar scene'ish", but for a quality dinner with someone whose company and conversation you enjoy just as much as the food, it would definitely be a good place to consider!

Food was good, but the servers were all completely overwhelmed. The restaurant seemed to have several large parties (8+ people), including ours. Another table's food was served to us, and even though it was what we ordered, they whisked it all away two minutes after setting it down. I would hope they wouldn't attempt to re-serve it to the "correct" table, but if they didn't, then why bother taking it OFF our table? Dinner took over three hours, the majority of which was spent waiting... The food was good so I'd be willing to give it another shot after they get past their opening "learning curves."

I found this restaaurant on Yelp while looking for a good place to take my wife for our anniversary. I was not disappointed, and neither was she. We arrived early but was promptly seated by the friendly Maitre D. The interior is tastefully decorated and has a cozy and modern feel. Our waiter, Daryl, was amazing. He was very very professional, polite and quite funny. We also got lucky as it was a day after restaurant week ended - but they decided to extend the special. So we had a 3 course meal for $35 each. The cauliflower soup appetzer was great. Be warned it's quite a large serving so don't order too much other appetizers or you won't have space for the entree. Daryl was able to get the bartender to create to amazing virgin cocktails.

I've been a fan of the Pera midtown location for a long time, so when I heard that they were opening a Soho counterpart, I had to check it out. Everything was delicious and the service is absolutely top notch. As soon as the weather warms a bit I'll be looking to enjoy the amazing outdoor area.

The food was delicious. We ordered off the restaurant week menu. My husband and I had the bass. Although it was very tasty, the portion was very small in comparison to our friends who had the lamb and the steak. Those were large portions which made our small portions look even smaller. The waiter had a condescending attitude. He tried to convince us to get another dish in addition to our order and when we declined he gave a look and said something to the busy boy, who was always very nice. He rolled his eyes when we didn't want drinks. We asked him for the check when we ordered dessert because we had to make a show which we told him about the minute we sat down. He told us he "was way ahead" of us and took another 15 minutes get it.

Even though I do not live or work close to Pera Soho, I have been there three times since it opened its doors a few weeks ago. The decor is elegant, the atmosphere is refreshing and the staff is friendly. But what truly sets Pera Soho (as it does the original Pera on Madison) apart from its competition is the quality of the food. Having been a fan of the flagship Pera for years, I thought I knew what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover new items on the menu specific to the Soho location. I highly recommend the generously portioned Chickpea and Kale Salad - but make sure to leave room for an entree and a dessert. The restaurant also has a great bar area, in case you want to stick around or meet new friends after dinner.

I recently dined at the new outpost of Pera in Soho. As a regular at the midtown location, I was excited to see what this new location had to offer. The space is beautiful and has a very downtown feel. The bar area is very comfortable and what seems to me a great place for to meet for drinks. What most impressed me was the food, they had several of the favorites from midtown, but have added some new items that are incredible. My favorite was the kale salad and the fried grape leaves. I have never had a fried tempura grape leaf, and I am telling you it is amazing! It is served with a sauce made of tomatoes, herbs and I think some kind of grain. I sill definitely come back.

Blown away by this newcomer. I have been a fan of the Pera midtown so I was expecting a clone. Wrong! Pera Soho is a very different restaurant, from the food to the vibe. Sure there are some common menu items that I guess can be described as signatures like the wonderful lamb Adana, but we were more interested in trying the Pera Soho-centric dishes. Loved the grilled prawns and the roast chicken. Loved sitting in the large garden by the fire pit with an after dinner drink. Can’t wait for the warm weather possibilities of Pera Soho’s garden. Our waiter said something about a rooftop deck! Awesome.
