Expected to expand into next door soon. Great small plates, outstanding appetizers, and fresh ingredients. Prices are a bit high but not out of ordinary for Rockridge area.

Friendly and comfortable, excellent service, food is extraordinary and portions are reasonably sized...not so huge you end up feeling stuffed and bloated. During warm weather the outdoor dining is quite pleasant. We are neighbors of Toast, and are so pleased to have them as a neighbor!

the ambiance was so dark that the server brought flashlights to the table. (and not just to ours. they seem to have lots of flashlights to distribute.) the noise level was way above "energetic." it was difficult for four of us to have a conversation. we ordered several dishes, and asked that they be brought out in stages. our last two dishes arrived =long= after the previous ones had been cleared. other than that, the food and wine were very good, and our server was helpful.

My husband and I both left with an overall feeling of dissatisfaction as the food was just not memorable. Given the price point, we expected good food. What we got was under-whelming food. The winter salad ($9) was under-dressed, had three tiny little wedges of citrus, and maybe a handful of little bits of cheese (I think it was ricotta). At $12, the shrimp plate had about 4 medium sized shrimps split in half on top of an avocado sauce. The flavor was good, but it came at too steep of a price. The best thing we had was the Coca ($7), which was basically four small wedges of mushroom foccocia. Last came the sturgeon ($18) with black lentils, which again, was okay. Best part of the meal was the muscadet for $6/glass.

Food was not much to remember as it was overpriced. The quality was good, but again, for that price, there are much better places such as A Cote or even Ceasar.

Great for a glass of wine and a small nosh, though probably not the best place for a full meal. The decor and vibe are hip. Nice place to pop into for some vino. The space is VERY dark and you will need a flashlight (as the server) in order to read the menu at night.

Being the foodies that we are I wanted to try something new for my birthday this year. It didn't go well right from the start. They served us tap water in a bottle with no filtered water upon request. Our server replied, "well it is EBMUD" like that was supposed to make it okay that it tasted like a swimming pool. Then she came back to say they were out of Pellegrino so we couldn't drink anything other than bottled soda or wine. I think we should have just left right then. The food was decent but everything else made it a less than enjoyable experience. Took over an hour to get our salads. The noise levels were unbearable as the meal progressed. Too many complaints to list here. We won't go there again.

We arrived at 10pm on a rainy evening. Concrete floors and reclaimed wood slabs for tables - a nice look. We were seated immediately. The feel was relaxed but a little busy with noise from a large group, not a problem at all. I had the quail over warm greens - delicious. My husband had a small green salad and lamb meatballs. He said he would have liked a starch to go with. The service was exceptionally friendly. We'll go back, next time with the kids.

Interesting place. When we arrived at 6:30 on a Tuesday, a business group of about 20 was at the front of the restaurant, doing a wine-tasting and social hour - and the noise was close to unbearable. We elected to sit outside, but had to move in because it was too cold. So for half an hour, my friend and I had to yell at each other to be heard. Then the group drifted out - and with the restaurant half full, noise was no problem. However, the prevalence of hard surfaces in the space makes noise a real issue. Also, most of the table are for four, with dividers down the middle to convert them to pairs - rather awkward. Food was very good - salumni plate, pasta, cioppino. Wine list is interesting and educational. I'll come back.

I love TOAST. The owners are awesome, the staff is very friendly, the wine selection is great, and the food is incredible. My favorites are the white bean spread and the lamb meatballs. My friend who was with me absolutely despises lamb but she loved these! I will go back often.

I love Toast! Every time I've been there it's been an enjoyable and yummy experience. The wait staff are fantastic; friendly and excited to help you choose the perfect glass of wine. The food is delicious and the selection is good. I love eating "small plate" foods. You can try several items on the menu and pace your meal exactly the way you care to. Come to Rockridge! The menu seems more like an after-thought to the wine list, than the primary point. Some of the dishes were great -- the salads, the breads, the appetizers. But the main courses were small, over-priced and much less impressive: the sword fish was undistinguished and nearly invisible among the lentils, the grilled cheese sandwich was greasy and sweetish. Since we are more interested in food than wine (health restrictions, sigh), I doubt we'll return anytime soon.

I've been to TOAST a few times now and have been pleased every visit. The decor is a mix of mid century modern meets elementary school classroom (love the schooolhous font on the menu too!) Food is consistently good, and changes seasonally so there's always something new to try. Wine list has a nice mix with a few options "on draft" and the servers are friendly and knowledgable about the food and wine selection.

Excellent food, wine and service. One of our diners cannot have any dairy so the chef prepared things normally cooked with butter, etc without it and it was still delicious. Mustard butter and polenta was served separately. But the rest of us did have the burrata, don't miss it, woo sooo good! Tuna was a little too firm for my taste but the lentils were out of this world. Everything from the wine, food and dessert was delicious. Would definitely go again.
