    The Black Cat offers soulful, eclectic dining in its elegant and artistic dining room and bar or in its private "Grange" room. The main dining room seats up to 68 people for plated service and up to 120 for cocktails and hors d'oeurves. The Grange room seats up to 22 people.

A word from Black Cat
Black Cat Farm Table Bistro serves inspired, organic cuisine based on the just-picked produce from its own 130 acre farm. By day, Chef-Farmer Eric Skokan cares for the vegetables out in his fields. Each evening finds him in the kitchen crafting dishes on his daily changing menu.

The restaurant's wine list places the great wines of the world side-by-side with small, off-the-beaten-path producers from lesser-known regions.

Daily pairing menus give our sommeliers ample opportunity to dip into the 400+ selection cellar, and vary in focus from Northern Italy to organic wines of the Pacific Northwest.

Hand-crafted, seasonal cocktails featuring artisanal spirits and local ingredients show the talent of our professional mixologists who make our bar spring to life.

The Black Cat has a lively, warm atmosphere in its intimate dining room. It is located in the heart of Boulder, CO, just off the historic Pearl Street Mall.

    Food flavor was uninspiring, small porportions for a 3 course menu. I had the "study of the farm" - chicken was dry and lacked flavor that I was expecting from a braised dish. Finishing cheese course was good but had to ask for the stewed fruit which was listed on the menu and they brought only a few strawberries and pear which was a poor match for the strong cheeses we selected. Overall fair but a miss" of a dinning experience. Will not try again.

    This restaurant will never work unless the staff is overturned or properly trained. We ordered the tasting menu; the food was barely explained and the staff knew nothing about the wine pairings. Wine glasses were the same size and shape for all wines poured - either have the chef get an appropriate sommelier or don't offer wine pairings.

    Truly amazing restaurant. The food, the staff, the atmosphere - a 10! You feel like you are part of something special when you dine at black cat. The servers want you to appreciate the experience as much as they do. I have no idea where they find such amazing people. They describe the food so well, you can almost taste it before you are served. You can taste every ingredient within each course. Fresh, fantastic. Best restaurant in Boulder.

    I was very disappointed with the food. Had the duck as my entree and it was bland... a few nuts sprinkled on top and a nondescript sauce. Had gnocchi as appet and I found that unimpressive... no surprising flavors, despite wild recommendations from the waitress. I consider myself a reasonably well versed foodie and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, although having had only one meal, I wouldn't stand in the doorway warning people away either. Service was not what you would expect from a restaurant where you drop $80 a head. Choc pot was good, but that's hardly a pastry chef's challenge. Decor good. Like the curtains.

    We really enjoyed our dinner Saturday night. The two complimentary "amuse bouche" that we were served was a nice touch and delicious. My husband and I had the pork and veal, respectively, and they both were fantastic entrees. The wait staff was attentive and well versed in the menu. One comment I want to make is it would be nice to see more wine by the glass, particularly adding some in the $8 or $9 range.

    We had a wonderful experience at Black Cat. The service was superb (and we're sticky about bad service), the food was delicious, and the ambiance both relaxing and festive - quite an accomplishment. We had a charming alcove table in the back, perfect for the 4 adults and 1 baby in our party. The staff was very welcoming to our baby, and made us feel quite comfortable bringing him to this fairly upscale spot. Wine and food selections change daily; our server (who was also the sommeliere) was v. knowledgeable about both. There were few truly vegetarian offerings, but the chef made a few veg-friendly substitutions that pleased our vegetarian. Salads/apps were overall better than the main courses, but all was good. The desserts were divine!

    It was a great evening. Food was delicious. Service was good with pockets of a missing server; we made the mistake of asking our server to give us more time with the menu which turned into about 30-45 minutes, then after dessert we were the only guests in the restaurant and had to ask for the check; total time in restaurant was 3.5 hours.

    Breeze from AC make things difficult for those at the table nearest the door. That AC system has to cool the kitchen which is on the opposite side of the room. In the process, it turns the first table, in the north west corner of the room, into a little slice of the arctic circle.

    The food was wonderful. Loved sitting next to the open kitchen. The only gripe was we could see the chef cooking and what I saw I didn't like: he tasted the sauce (good) with a spoon and then put the spoon right from his mouth back into the saute pan (yuk!)

    Black cat is a nice place but not a WOW special occasion place. One of our main course meals was great the other was just ok. Dessert for both of us was great. Other courses just ok. Nice wine list. I think it is only reservation only status because of the size of the place. If it had more tables it would not have this status. I only spotted one great place to sit and it is left of main door near bar. Otherwise you are either at front door ,near restroom or the traffic path for one or the other.

    What an excellent dinner and experience. My husband and I are big foodies and the Black Cat was just wonderful. We were seated right by the kitchen(next to stove top), however I have to say it was rather warm, but we could see it all and I really enjoyed seeing everything come together. The service was excellent and you could tell that the executive chef has put both time and effort into staff preparation. We will definately return and tell our friends about this great find.

    This is an outstanding restaurant with a rare combination of a creative chef, service oriented staff and a total lack of self conscious snobbery often seen at venues with kitchens of this quality. The changing menu is inventive and the tasting menu is a real treat with small course after small course highlighting great ingredients, deft cooking and unusual attention to textures as well as taste. Our experience on the weekend evenings suggests that high volume is overwhelming; the attentive service, food quality and laid-back atmosphere all suffered on the three weekend occasions we have been here and we now confine our pleasurable evenings at this wonderful restaurant to weeknights. Thank you for many delightful evenings.

    Apparently, the service was a little slow but the food was very good and my guests liked seating near the open kitchen and watch the chef's prepare their food. They were seated on time at 6:30pm, but didn't leave until 10pm. Since it was a work-related dinner(after a day of back-to-back meeting), my boss thought it was too long. But my customers loved it.

    The staff were great; knowledgeable and friendly. Our meals were very tasty, but watch out for duplications -- there were lots of pears, for example. I like pears, but they showed up a three times. The little goat's cheese taster sent from the kitchen before the meal was nice, but we also had a cheese appetizer immediately afterwards. Little things, really, but they came across as (very slight) stumbles in an otherwise smooth evening. We loved the menu and enjoyed ourselves a lot. We'll be back...

    New Year's 2007 was not a success. Too many tiny courses spread out over too long. We weren't even hungry anymore when small portions of lukewarm meat finally appeared. Unfortunately, the only dish we remember was the overpowering celery-flavored gnocchi that were also too heavy and too salty. For such an expensive outing, we were disappointed. (Not to mention, the other guests were so dour, we had to wonder why they hadn't just stayed home).

    Really enjoyed the menu, still like pretty most Boulder restaurants the wine list was disappointing. The restaurant is laid out a bit funky and it was a bit noisy but the cuisine was excellent.
