Unfortunately, I was on a "date" with my wife, and the only table available was next to a family with two little kids (food all over the floor, pushed chair up next to our table). Not what we expected. Then, after they left, another family was seated at the same table with a toddler. It felt like we were at romper room. As far as the food, I was looking forward to a great cup of clam chowder and I was extemely dissapointed. They had a few clams with massive amounts of potatoe cubes. Also, the potatoe cubes were too hard and under cooked. I would not recommend the cafe to ANYONE!

For a place that could rest on its laurels of fabulous view and attractive facility, it doesn't. The food was just wonderful from the house - smoked sable cakes to the fresh sable, the ahi tuna salad sandwich to the seafood salad for those who cannot make a decision, it was all terrific. Fresh and tasty. The drinks were great as well. Not a bargain spot, but wonderful. A place to return to again and again.

This was certainly not our first trip to Ray's Cafe, and past visits left me with high expectations -- which they exceeded. The kitchen was ON: everything came out quickly, and prepared perfectly, from the salmon burger to the endless bowls of clams and mussels, two plates of seared salmon; on and on and on. We had out of towners with us and they were wowed. If the weather's a little warmer, the outside seating is lovely, but pretty chilly this time of year! BTW: On Tuesday, happy hour prices extend through the entire restaurant, not just the bar. Even GREATER value!

Food was good, but wife did not appreciate her fish tacos with the miniscule pieces of fish. She was disappointed for sure. Place was very understaffed with waitpeople. Our waitress was covering way too many tables to provide good service hard as she tried. Ray's used to be one of our favorite places. What happened? Recession hit too hard? Try Arnies or Anthony's instead.

Staff was very helpful with accommodating a flower delivery to accompany a dinner reservation, and made sure it was already placed on the table when we were seated. Food was delicious, portions were just right, and staff was knowledgeable about the delicious menu. As it is a seafood house, there are few selections for those who don't care for seafood, but the quality of all dishes is very high. Unfortunately, I requested a view table when I made the reservation and we were set one row of tables back from the windows which meant we had to peer around other diners and try to ignore reflections from the rest of the dining room just to see out. But, I made the reservations same-day for a Friday night, so I might have been too last minute.

I was very pleased with the quality of service I received at Rays. I had the Dungeness Crab & Rock Shrimp Cakes yukon potatoes, fried artichokes, roma tomato, watercress, roasted red pepper and chili oil, old bay aïoli and it was DELICIOUS!! It was the perfect place to have my birthday lunch. In celebration, Ray's gives you a complimentary dessert, your choice from the dessert menu. I had the Quadruple Chocolate Mousse semisweet and milk chocolate mousse, chocolate cookie crust, caramelized orange sauce, theo cocoa nibs which was out of this world. I was seated at a window table and view was perfect ending with a bald eagle that flew at building level to end my lunch time celebration. I love Rays Boathouse!!

No complaints about service! We were 15 mins. late for our 6 pm reservation on a busy Saturday night. Our reservation was not only held for us, but was a table for two by the windows. Wait times for walk ins were 1 1/2 hours. We told our server that we were concerned about making it on time to a concert and he said he understood, would put our orders in right away. We ended up getting out of there in under 45 mins. Although we rushed ourselves, this would be a great place for a leisurely meal as well. Food was very good. Fish not overcooked, still moist. Entrees showed creativity, were well presented, and demonstrated a good understanding of how different foods work together. This was a 1st visit, I am eager for a 2nd.

Three of us had good food experiences. However, one did not enjoy the seafood linguine that night . . .has had it in the past and liked it, but not this time. It didn't hit the mark. Also the seafood chowder was mostly potato paste rather than seafood. The steak oscars and the salmon were excellent.

Love this Seattle institution, been many times...BUT. The food, while decent, unfortunately has become a bit tired (maybe that means I've been here too many times). I cannot recommend the crab and corn chowder...too thick, lacking in flavor. The spinach salad was good, altho the shrimp I added were a bit fishy tasting. Sweet potato fries & chipotle dipping sauce consistently good, but the Chicken Cobb Sandwich was overwrought w/ blue cheese dressing, and the piece of chicken was a bit puck-ish. I cut it in half to make a thinner piece that actually fit the bun. Sorry to say, overall it was just okay, because I like the venue...they just seem to be sleepwalking thru the food.

I was sort of disappointed with Ray's Cafe. My wife and I always drive by and thought it would be a wonderful place to eat. It's in a beautiful location on the sound, a building with great views. The food was alright, but wasn't anything spectacular. Our waitress didn't introduce herself and barely waited on us, made me feel like we were eating at a fast food restaurant instead of the charming restaurant we were expecting. Making a reservation on OpenTable, we expected we'd be seated on time. Instead, when arriving early, we ended up waiting ten minutes over our scheduled dinner and happened to be the only ones waiting to be seated. These experiences left a bad impression on us and I don't think we'll be back.

Great food. One of our fellow diners is a vegetarian, So we ate at the cafe instead of the restaurant. There was only one option. He seemed to enjoy it quite well. But the Salmon was incredible. Nice normal level of noise with conversation being moderate, no one whispering, no one talking too loudly. Great to watch the sunset over the Olympics. It would be nice when friends visit Seattle to have a great seafood restaurant that had more vegetarian options so that they don't feel awkward joining us for dinner. Service was kind of slow. Server was very friendly, just seemed to not be very attentive. It took until we asked for our check for me to get an Iced Tea refill.
