While their menu is smaller than other Mystic restaurants, their menu changes daily and is always fresh. Their food (flavors, freshness, presentation, portion size) far exceeds any other restaurant in town. The service is excellent but their food is the star!

  • Don't believe the hype
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007

The atmosphere is quaint, however you'll feel every step people take as the old floor bounces and creeks. They should have cut the floor out and just put and old style wood finish on top of modern framing. The food was overpriced and the quantities were small. It's for food snobs who like claiming that they ate locally harvested fresh food. The food was good but not spectacular. 2 drinks, 2 starters, 2 main courses, 2 desserts = $125. My $40 steak ordered medium came out well. They said the right things but seemed snotty about it. Like how dare I send it back. If it was a $20 steak I wouldn't have, but at a premium restaurant I expect it to be perfect. If you want premium, flavorful food, go to Prime.

We enjoyed our dinner very much. The service was great and our waitress was friendly. We were asked very nicely if we would consider moving from our table to another table to accommodate a larger party that would fit better at the table we were presently at. We had no problem doing that and actually liked our second table better. As a result, the restaurant pick up the tab for our first drink. It was unnecessary but it was a nice touch. I had a steak that was delicious.

Very delicious and fresh food. Service was friendly and attentive. The coffee was superb. My only issue was that this is a small restaurant and a large party occupied the center of the room. This raised the noise level and disturbed the otherwise romantic atmosphere of this rustic restaurant. I hope to visit again during the summer.

I went with my husband for my birthday dinner and we found everything fresh, local and flavorful. My husband had oysters to start and we both had the skate with curry sauce and gingered greens. Served in one bowl, the entree arrived steaming hot with balanced flavors, a bit of heat and a nice crunch on the fish. Homemade ice cream for dessert - the vanilla was a bit mealy, but the snickers was out of this world with a super homemade caramel sauce. Service was efficient and unobtrusive.

We picked this restaurant to try with out of town guests because of the good reviews we had seen previously. Every course, including the salad was way too salty. One of us had ordered the NY strip steak and it was the only meal that was enjoyable. It was large enough that we shared it among us. We will not go back.

Having heard that this was the best restaurant in Connecticut, 2013, we decided to book a table for my husband's birthday. The place was a hive of activity but maintained a great level of personal service and we struck up a friendly relationship with our server immediately. The food was excellent: Fresh oysters, delicious salad with interesting local ingredients (watermelon radish), unusual ingredients (pig cheeks), all cooked with perfect technique (greenest spinach in the world, beautiful crusted fluke). The menu has its roots in Europe using local ingredients and American influences (serving cornbread in the breadbasket), and it features home made desserts, both simple and innovative (chocolate creme brûlée with its Aztec twist).

Not much to choose from and menu has random item for specific tastes. Also had reservations for 8:00 and they ran out of vegetables, mashed potatoes and an entree. With a limited menu this made choice even more limited. I had the steak which was good however I don't think I would go back.

We really disliked this restaurant and most of the boisterous pretentious folks dining next next to us. Food leaned too much into the "if it's wacky, it must be good". Portions were very small Price tag was very high. Too many other gems around the Mystic Bridge to eat here ever again.

This was our second visit to the Oyster Club in two weeks. The first visit was so good that I was eager to get back! Unfortunately the meal was not as good the second time around. Service was terrific, out server was helpful and attentive and knowledgeable. The chowder is outstanding! The pasta dish was so lightly sauces that the prime rib ragu was barely evident, although the homemade pasta was perfectly prepared. My cod was cooked beautifully, but the dish was very bland and rather uninteresting. Drinks were imaginative and delicious, and the homemade ice cream is unbelievably creamy and flavorful. I would go back for drinks, chowder, oysters, and dessert for sure!

Ah!invitation to critique appeals to our French characters! Good service, atmosphere and exceptional bread ( one prejudges cuisine by quality of the bread). The oysters and clams were excellent, however the recipe of the fluke/lobster was unhappy. The relative flavours were lost, the fluke overcooked and lobster drowned in a banale sauce!Pity. With quality ingredients, the simple way is best.(as the tendancy now indicates..)The wine list is varied with interesting choices. We will return. And hope others will too.
