Food was not good. Calimari was more like bad-tasting spaghetti, there was more sauce than squid. Drunken chicken was cooked in two parts - chicken cooked separately from sauce - and flavor suffers accordingly. Shepherd's Pie had the smallest pieces of meat I've ever seen - smaller than clams in a standard NE clam chowder - and all you could taste was rosemary. In general, the food was seasoned excessively to hide the low quality ingredients. Selection of drinks was good, although a little expensive.

Picked the Irish Whiskey Public House based on Yelp search. Great food (I recommended the lamb shank and potato soup), excellent service. David, our bartender recommended both our meal and our drinks.

I chose this restaurant based on previous reviews. We were sadly disappointed. We were the only diners (granted it was a bit late for lunch) and were seated at a table behind the bar. Service fine & the bartender was friendly. The beer was cold but the Smithwick's was bitter (need to clean the lines more often perhaps). The food was warm and but really lacking. The Thai mussels were delicious and the cordon blue poppers were tasty with the mustard sauce. But the rest of the meal was terrible -- the pretzel bites had so much garlic flavor that they were practically inedible and the Shepard's Pie was VERY disappointing--the mashed potatoes tasted like they came from a box and the meat was so overly spiced that it was hard to eat.

Wonderful neighborhood hangout. Worth the trip around Dupont Circle. The food was the best I've ever had at an Irish Pub. The truffle mac and cheese was to die for. More like a typical Irish Pub that you would find in Ireland than the more "touristy" kind that tends to crop up in the U.S. Also, a great selection of draft beer and whisky.

I really used to like the place and have eaten there quite often. Food has become less and less desireable every time. Now it hit the rock bottom. It was so salty that it was almost unedible. Sheperd's pie was barely a glimpse of what it used to be when the place opened. Used to love it but now it is just salty minced meat and bland mash.Long gone are the days of rosemary leaves and superb spices. Before you got also a feeling of being welcome to the place. Now ther was nobody to attend to my reservation, no table reserved. I was just advised to find a table from somewhere. Finally got one for all three of us. It is a pity that food has gone down the trail. The place is really nice but now it is time to check out from the establishment

My husband wanted to go to an irish pub --- we were there on a sunday, shortly after the restaurant opened. there were only about 5 couples there. we had the shepherds pie and the drunken chicken --- both were delicious. of course could not beat the whiskey tasting. Good place if you like Irish food ambiance etc.

I was disappointed with our brunch trip to the Irish Whiskey Public House. The menu that was handed to us in no way resembled the menu that was on the website (I wouldn't have gone had I seen what they were actually serving... far less interesting). The food was... ok. Additionally the place was FREEZING. The door/window were open on a day when it was cold and rainy. Patrons were wearing their coats while eating food.

I can't say enough about how great our lunch experience was at the Irish Whiskey Public House. We celebrated a friend's birthday with a group of 8. We got there when they opened for lunch. Quiet atmosphere, fabulous food (get the truffle Mac and Cheese) the husbands enjoyed the beer and whiskey selections and mimosas for the ladies. We had 2 babies with us which wasn't a problem because it was quiet (music playing was great) although there are stairs to enter the pub and our friends had to carry the stroller up the steps. Also, they do not have a highchair, I would recommend that they purchase at least one ( not just for us) for future customer visits. We look forward to returning.

I eat on the terrace at the Irish Whskey Public House. The waiter was quite nice but overworked as eery table was filled. Good selection of both Irish and Scottish whiskies. I had the Irish stew which appeared well made and was a little too salty even for me who likes a lot of salt. The fries were among the best I ever had.

they never checked the reservations so they had no idea we were coming. they sat us in a corner at the basement bar in the middle of a Tulane University alumni happy hour. we were told there wasn't a waitress and we would have to order our food and drinks at the bar. I had brought my boss and was thoroughly embarrassed. we left and wandered around for an hour in 102 degree weather looking for another restaurant that had availability. Thanks for nothing.7pm on a thursday and no tables available to eat because the place is packed with happy hour drinkers. this place needs to figure out if it's a restaurant or if it got lost on its way to 18th street.

I was very disappointed with my dinner visit. It was extremely loud inside and I could hardly talk to my friend. My friend had to go find our waitress 4 times because she didn't check back with us very often. The shepard's pie and fried shrimp/oysters were both very spicy which I didn't like. When I went there a week prior for lunch it was fabulous. The lunch porto burger and fish & chips were wonderful, service excellent. I would recommend for lunch, but not dinner unless you want a bar scene with lousy service.

Service and food was excellent. I am a big fan of Irish pubs both here in and in Ireland. The Irish stew was great as was my hamburger. A friend had the shepherd's pie and she raved about it. Another had the drunken chicken and lamb croquettes both of which were great. The highlight however were the pretzel bites appetizer. They were amazing!!! I don't often think of Irish pubs for dessert but not in this case. We sampled both the car bomb cheesecake and the Chocolate Pot de Creme with Bacon Crumble. The cheesecake was served in a martini glass filled with whip cream and cheesecake bites on sticks. Great presentation. The chocolate pot de creme best I ever had only enahnced by sugar coated crisp bacon crumbles. All I can say is wow!!!

They are really European style, sour, which are almost impossible to find elsewhere in Washington. Yummy! Neighbourhood gem with excellent pub food.

Appetizers ( wings, pretzel bites, corned beef spring rolls) were okay. Main courses were mediocre. Wasn't looking for elegant - actually Applebee's level of food taste and prep would have been awesome. Not even close. Sheppard's pie looked like puréed baby food with mashed potatoes on top; burgers ordered medium were almost inedible for the char; fries also barely edible for the level of salt. Again, not food snobbery here - but went due to good ratings and money value. Got neither. Cannot understand the good ratings on this site for this place. If a bar can't get "bar food" right, why bother?

Not at all impressed. The highly touted pretzel bites were just warm greasy pretzel slices. One main course was passable. The Shepards pie was (to be charitable) not to my taste. Good beer selection but they didn't have everything on the menu. I found a substantial disconnect between the open table ratings and my experience. Other Web sites give less effusive reviews. I side with those. Server was nice but unknowledgeable and inconsistently attentive even though it wasn't a busy night.

This place is doing much better food than one might expect from a busy place with three bars in it. We loved the corned beef spring rolls, Shepherds pie and fish and chips. I didn't get a taste of everything, but everyone seemed to enjoy their food. Our server was fun and kept the drinks coming. It'a true gastro-pub experience as well as a fun bar scene.

There were two of us dining. We got there at 7:30 pm on a Friday, and all of the standing room was full. We had a reserved table that was ready when we showed up. The bar was quite loud. We were waited on quickly, the waitress brought over a drink list and we selected our drinks. The most whiskeys were in the $8+ range. It looks like it might have been about a 1 oz pour. The food was good. I had the Filet Mignon and it was perfectly cooked to medium rare, as I requested. My date had the pork chop, and she enjoyed it. By the end of the night, the bar became less crowded and the noise dropped some. I believe that was around 9 pm.
