A word from Michy's
Michy's is the golden child restaurant created by husband and wife team David Martinez and Michelle Bernstein. This modern bistro located in the up and coming neighborhood of Miami’s “Upper East Side”, awakens the 69th block on gritty Biscayne Boulevard with its glowing lights and bustling energy. Chef Bernstein and her team utilize seasonal ingredients and draw upon local farmers and fisherman to create whimsical bistro dishes, a style she coins as “luxurious comfort food.” The menu is comprised of an eclectic range that includes Michelle’s Jewish-Argentinean background, classical French training and a love for all things Spain with a sprinkling of homey Italian. From Crispy Fried Poussin, to Ceviche, to Braised Short Ribs, there is literally a little something for everyone. The goal is to enjoy yourself, to enjoy every bite and to take your palate on a ride!

This was the second time I had eaten at Michy's. One is truly able to dine at Michy's - both the food and the service are excellent. Kelly, our server, was extremely knowledgeable about the wine list and made a great suggestion on an Italian wine. The ability to order half plates makes having dinner fun because so many different items can be ordered and eaten throughout the course of the meal. The bread pudding is a must have for desert.

The service was impeccable. Our waiter spoke french which made it easier for us to order and was well versed in the wine list. His recommendations for the menu and the wine were perfect. This restaurant offers half-portions which made it possible for us to sample different plates. More restaurants should follow suit. A wonderful idea. The decor is also very nice and comfortable. I cannot wait to go back although the bill was a bit steep.

We were very pleased with the quality of and innovation in the cooking, as were the very experienced foodie guests from Italy who we brought to the restaurant. For the price, however, we found the service problematic - with dishes arriving for some diners while others waited for 5-8 minutes more for their dishes. Rather than wait (while hot dishes would cool) some of us ate while others waited for their food. The menu, which offers half and full portions of most of the dishes, encourages tastings which we enjoyed but the scheduling of the dishes left us less than pleased. Manager apologized at least twice which we appreciated but the experience was not what it could have been and will lead us to think twice about returning soon.

The ham croquetas, carbonara, and short ribs were outstanding. The veal oscar fell short of our expectations. The veal was underseasoned, and outright bland. This is the first disappointment I have had after dining at Michy's at least dozen times.

I have been looking forward to trying Michy's for a while and, unfortunately, was disappointed. The loctaion is awful. The dining room was cramped and crowded. The noise level was not conducive to conversation. The food was good (yummy croquettes and carbonara, smallish portions) but the prices were high, especially considering the location. They may be able to get away with it on the beach. I don't think I will try it again. Great mojitos!!

MIchy's is a jewel of a restaurant. Every dish (and we ordered 7, including 2 desserts) was creatively prepared, well-presented, and absolutely delicious. Portions are small, all to be shared, and so this was a true gastronomic experience. I recommend the seared fois gras on a cornbread cake without qualification.

Everything was perfect at this gem away from the South Beach scene - the staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and the service was efficient and not rushed (but very timely - a good flow). The food is well known - really delicious and tasty, a great and interesting menu. We were with our three children, who loved it also - we'll be back! As an architect, I really enjoyed the decor ... on par or above restaurants we've enjoyed in Paris, New York, Marrakech ... well done! Harley & Jane SWEDLER

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

The food was good, the decor was a little nondescript. The service was good barring a couple of points, they did not serve the wine I ordered and the server was a bit sloppy. The restaurant could use a decor enhancement and ensure the wait-staff's knowledge of the wine list. The maître d' was very gracious and apologetic. But this is a restaurant and there must be some criticism. The food was delicious, very flavorful and cooked to perfection, though some of the fare was a touch too rich. The wine list was also very good, well paired with the menu on offer. Lots of good bubbly to choose from. The prices are on the upper end, but in the end it's pretty well worth it.

  • Still a "diamond in the rough"

Still a "diamond in the rough" -- the "rough" being Miami's still-transitioning "Upper East Side." Perhaps because of the still-funky neighborhood, and the intentionally bohemian-funky-chic decor, this place is ALL about the food. The raison d'etre indeed is great food, which is prepared and served by people who know what great food is. The menu is eclectic and often comforting, but never merely "comfort cuisine." Instead, it's simultaneously creative, often surprising -- but always delicious. It's a must-do for folks who love great food without pretense. Also, the unique option of most of the menu's choices being available in either whole or half-order, makes the dining here all the more fun and/or sensible.

Had a wonderful dinner at Michy's. Service was good, our table was ready when we arrived The waiter was very helpful in describing the dishes and helping make the selections, but a little forgetful when he said he'll come back for a couple of things/with answers. Otherwise the service was good and attentive. The manager stopped by to make sure everything was ok. But the food was what carried the night. Everything was top notch, fresh, well prepared. All of our dishes were delicious, you can see a lot of thought was put in their preparation, combination of elements and presentation. Recommend the cured foie gras, the truffled polenta, the ribs and the bread pudding (desert).Overall, an excellent experience. Will definitely revisit.

The food and service was fantastic. The staff was very attentive, almost too much so. Our food was delicious. I had some prosciutto appetizer. The presentation was lovely. It was served with a bit of excellent French mustard, honey and almonds. For the entree my wife ordered a chicken dish and I the swordfish special. The dessert, a bread pudding, was great. The only problem we had with the restaurant was the cost of the wine. There were no affordable wines, I don't remember seeing a single wine under $50 most were much more expensive. The wine list was also arranged in a strange way, I found to be useless. I looked for a pino grigio and I could not find any. I would have asked the sommelier for help, but at those prices, why bother.

I have been to Michy's about 6 times and always enjoy the food. It is one of the premier spots in Miami. In order to maintain the ststus it has, to me, it is necessary to change the menu more often. Some of the old standards..... polenta, beet salad etc.are great but a few new knock out items would entice me to visit more frequently. I hope Michy, who I have great admiration for, is not spending too much time with other ventures. We have a great need for excellent dinning and my last experience left me with an absence of the WOW factor. JK

Having lived in this neighborhood since 1972 and watched the transition.....Michy's is an elegant gem. Having just recently moved further north I now travel an hour and a half and it is worth the journey. The menu changes with the seasonal freshness and availabilty of ingredients. I have never had the same thing twice, and each dish is memorable. I love the fact I can order half portions and taste several dishes.....but still leave room for desserts. Our wait staff was attentive and made great suggestions. It is definitely worthy of 5 stars!

Food was extraordinarily good and well-priced for the intensity of the flavor and labors taken with ingredients. I normally love this place, having been at least 5 or 6 times. I was a little disappointed this time by our server, who was simultaneously neglectful (e.g., he took too long to take our drink order, among other lapses) and overbearing (e.g., suggested we were ordering too little food, even though we knew we weren't that hungry; at his prompting, we did order more, and unfortunately ended up having too much food!), a rare but unappealing combination. The food was still excellent though, and the place is still fun and vibrant, so all in all, the evening was still fun. But, I hope Chef Bernstein reminds her staff that the idea is for the customer to decide what he or she wants and/or needs, and that staff may help IF assistance is requested.
