This new, month-open Venetian-inspired restaurant in the Historical Society is a uniquely enjoyable find -- excellent, clean but vibrantly flavored food. The menu -- Italian Chichetti "little bites" from arrancini to a don't miss burrata with 3 artichoke 3 ways -- to an earthy, wonderfully satisfying rigatoni with sausage ragu -- to a knock-out chicken with mushrooms -- to brilliant gelato -- is fantastico. And the plateware from the Museum on the shelves of the walls grows on you as you settle in. Supposedly a great brunch on Sundays as well. Also loved the young, smartly but casually dressed staff who can't do enough to make this fun. I could eat here once a week!

Lunch was lovely-we shared a starter and very sweetly they divided the soup into 2 bowls. Salad arrived before they had removed our bowls. Waitress hovered a bit in the beginning- even once interrupting our conversation. Altho the woman next to us- dining solo-just joined in -almost invited her to wander around the museum with us! This is an ideal place for lunch and the fabulous renovated museum, but I am not sure if I would run here for dinner. The room is beautifully designed-in keeping with the period-with great big windows overlooking the Natural History Museum.

Had lunch this week at Caffe Storico; food was absolutely delicious with distinctive flavors and lots of choices. Enjoyed the "small plates" concept--had a salad with anchovy dressing, the mezzaluna pasta, and a warm apple tart for dessert with a flaky pastry rather that you always hope for and rarely get. Ambiance is very relaxed, waitstaff is super friendly--place feels upbeat. Will be back to try dinner.

This place has a lovely relaxed vibe, but with class. The food was delicious. The Cicchetti plates are small and I advice 3 plates for two people to share. The gently warmed salmon is a real revelation, if you are bored of salmon this dish will 'unbore' you, the baccala very tasty and we have the baby lettuce salad to add balance. The Slow Roasted Chicken secondi was generous and very tasty and the Ricotta Cavatelli was very fresh (the portion was a little on the small side). All in all, a lovely meal, beautifully executed and very helpful waiting staff. The wine list had a huge variety of Italian wines and plenty of choice by the glass.

The restaurant is beautiful and elegant; the walls wainscotted and white, and the neon yellow couch that lines the wall is just the perfect punch of color. The food was excellent even when we reconfigured some of the items to fit our food exceptions (which the restaurant did without a problem). The service was friendly, the ambiance is open and airy, light filled, high ceilings, and fresh. It was a pleasure to dine at Caffe Storico.

  • So disappointing! Beautiful

So disappointing! Beautiful location, beautiful decor. The food was uninspired and pedestrian; there was nothing notable about the presentation, start to finish. A flower on each table would have added warmth. The bread basket was 4 small dry pieces of bread and some bread sticks. The bread would have benefited from being served warm. The individual starters seem to be the more interesting choices, but they were neither tasty nor particularly interesting. Lobster was predominantly salty. Brussel sprouts "leaves" were undercooked. The meatballs were the best, but not memorable. Chocolate dessert had good flavor, but lacked delicacy in texture and temperature. Excellent wine list, though. We so hope they can improve the food.

The ambience was fantastic. Some of the food was very good (the bass), other dishes were just OK (the salad with "crispy vegetables," the brussels sprouts, the bread). If Caffe Storico were a little less expensive, my wife and I would go there frequently because it's beautiful and we live only a few blocks away; if Caffe Storico were a little better, we would keep it in mind for any special occassion meal on the UWS along with Dovetail and Boulud Sud. But we will definitely try CS for brunch and probably dinner at some later point.

We were four people and we all left the restaurant hungry, the portions are very small. The restaurant itself is beautiful but very noisy. The service was attentive; however the wait staff is in dire need of more training. Twice food was delivered to our table we didn’t order and when our food arrived – the staff was unable to place it correctly. • Shrimp Tramezzini, $6.00 - disappointing – shrimp salad on white bread triangle. • I was starving after that so I ordered a salad.– baby lettuce & crisp vegetable honey lemon vinaigrette - good. • Meatballs $11.00 – good not great • Ricotta Cavatelli $22.00 sage & brown butter
lobster & black trumpet mushrooms – excellent very small portion – appetizer not a main dish • Artichoke Mez

This very nice space with great food suffers from being rediculously noisy (by the time the restaurant was filled we couldn't hear each other). Won't go back for that reason and it's a shame. Being that it is in a museum, why do they need it to sound like a rock concert? The clientel was middle aged to older, not the type who want to scream.

Had brunch here with an out-of-town guest when visiting the New-York Historical Society. The food was very good, although the portions were surprisingly small for the price. I had the pasta with duck ragout (sp?) and a glass of prosecco which were both excellent. Dessert was also outstanding.
