There seems to be so many Sushi restaurants in every community these days, which is fine. But Seiya seemed a step up--maybe 2 or 3 steps up. The menu has many unique choices and the ones we had were well presented, wonderfully fresh, and the service was very attentive. It's our special occasion Sushi place now.

Quite possibly the best restaurant in the Peninsula. The food is out of this world and I always starve myself before I go so I can try more of the menu. The uni roll with the raw quail egg is divine as re the seafood tacos. Try them both and I guarantee you'll have more than on helping.

Hands down some of the best sushi on the Peninsula. I rated it very good for the food. Beverage program could use some help. Wish they would get some killer sparkling wines in to go with the cuisine.

One of our favorite places on Laurel Street. Simple and elegant. Delicious and perfectly fresh tasty bites every time. The Fish Tacos Sushi style are unlike anything you can imagine. The grill skewers while steeply priced are each perfectly executed. Top marks.

If I could give 6 stars for service, I would! From the moment we arrived everyone was attentive and charming. It was our anniversary, and a card was placed on our table signed by the entire staff wishing us a happy anniversary. We requested a special table, and they honored that request. The menu was interesting and the food was excellent. A memorable meal.

It's a place that exploits the expected high prices for a "Sushi joint" and doesn't deliver. Seiya is "formulaic" in its decor and in the food. Some reviews mentioned specific dishes on the menu, so between the four of us, we tried quite a few and ran up a reasonable bill, without being crazy and not a lot of expensive drinks, just some Sake. If I were in San Carlos, I'd eat there again and see if sitting at the Sushi bar, otherwise, it's just a mediocre joint that is cashing in on ridiculously high prices at restaurants in the SF Bay Area.

Nothing's really wrong with Seiya, but the sushi is more expensive than Shiki and not as good. They do have some unusual items (particularly robata -- both the pork belly and asparagus were very good). Seiya feels a bit cramped, and the heavy wood chairs are a bit hard to move around. The hard surfaces make the place sound noisier than it is (dining by myself, couldn't evaluate how difficult conversation is).

Very good sushi restaurant, with fresh ingredients and good quality. Innovative appetizers and spicey rolls, but few really exotic seafood items except for monkfish which was so so and pricey. No uni on the night we went; their supplier was on vacation. The kurobuta appetizer is also excellent. No ramen or udon or other hot dishes to balance out the sushi. Prices are also a bit on the high side and add up rapidly with the small dishes. We were a party of 5, given a table in an enclosed area, and were not aware that 18% service charge was already put on the bill, and ended up double tipping. Upon notification the next day, the restaurant graciously credited back the second tip. Will go back again, but only for special occasions.

Delicious food in this tiny restaurant. We had a small table near the front - a bit cosy but nice. We definitely recommend the fish tacos (though the salsa was too spicy for us - potential palate killer). Great tuna tataki salad. Portions on the meat robata were very generous. Specials, while exquisite, were very expensive (one day boat scallop for $17). We'll go back but order the less expensive options on the menu.

Great sushi and beyond, and really good value. They made room for us at the sushi bar, where we njoyed great hamachi, ika, eel and avacodo roll, squid tentacles, a really creative fish taco - rice on nori deep fried, and then nicely topped with tuna and a tasty relish. Great seaweed salad too.

My husband took me to Seiya last Thursday night for my birthday. There was a Farmer's Market in San Carlos so parking was a couple blocks or more away which took us through this stroll of down town San Carlos, all the fresh foods at the Farmer's Market which had our minds and mouths set for really fresh food. We were not disappointed. I ordered the fish tacos, some veggies grilled on a skewer; my husband ordered a salad and some sashi and a roll. The presentation was brilliant the food was fabulous. Fresh and perfectly seasoned. The fish tacos were perfectly grilled fish perched on top a crunchy fried piece of seawood like those used in making rolls. The sashimi was amazing, fresh and delicious; the nigiri butter perfect on the grilled corn
