Max's Gill and Grill was great! Personally, my food was excellent - another in our party had dry chicken, but the manager was more than accommodating. Great experience overall. Loved it - will definitely go back.

We were disappointed that although members of our party arrived and were seated prior to the end of the 6PM Happy Hour (5:50), we were unable to get a waiter until the time expired so we weren't able to take advantage of the discounted appetizers/drinks. We were told that they stopped serving happy hour based on "bar clock" which was 5:45 rather than the 6PM time. We were still very pleased with the food we ordered - a good time was had by all. We'll be back tho!!

While the staff (wait staff and management) are always pleasant and friendly, the food on this occasion was very disappointing. We asked for two plates to split our dinner and to place crab shells; however, after two requests nothing came & I walked to the bar to get my own plate. The kitchen did not cook our second entry (scallops) and we were told the kitchen was "confused" and thought we didn't want the scallops, even when our waiter stated the order was on the ticket. The scallops came - cold. Sent them back and then they were reheated to a rubber state, too hard to cut and eat. Not a pleasant meal and service was not up to it's usual par. We understand there are bad nights & it takes a lot of work to provide consistent service.

We've been to Max Gill and Grill once before - it was great - that time. This time, not so good. My husband sent his food back - he wasn't happy with it. It wasn't hot, it didn't taste right. The waiter did offer to bring something else, but my husband declined. Our waiter was not good. He forgot the salad I ordered for my husband and I to share. When I reminded him, he brought the salad, but he brought the small portion - we'd ordered the larger portion. He only filled our waters once - we had to ask for that. We may try the restaurant one more time, since our first experience was good. If we have another bad experience though - that'll be it.

Max Gill and Grill has one of the best key lime pies I've had outside of Florida! (and I've tried MANY key lime pies!) I was pleasantly surprised! My boyfriend's vegetable medley was a bit salty for his taste and the yukon potatoes were way undercooked, but the fish was beautifully cooked and tasty. The tropical salsa is very yummy!

We were seated immediately. So far so good. The hostess told us about the specials. Our server Sarah came over and told us about the specials within again 2 minutes. We asked for some water with lemon. The water came from someone else immediately. We asked for lemon again....no lemon. About 7 minutes later our server came over for our drink order. We ordered the drinks and a salad and soup. We then waited another 10 minutes for the drinks. The soup and salad came before the drinks. We ordered the special - copper river salmon, we both said we wanted it med rare,--25 minutes later it arrived white and overcooked. The server did not check with us for another 10 minutes. By that time we figured why bother, overcooked salmon,& still no lemon!

Not sure where to start. Overall a disappointment - compared to their other restaurant, Washington Park Grill. They did not have either of two wines we wanted to order. The entrees were ordinary - my guest ordered the Halibut Cheek special, they were dry and tasteless. The high light of the meal - the clam chowder. Doubt we will go there again.

Problem here is that the chef has a heavy hand with salt and pepper. Although the menu included many spicy foods which would not be our choice, we selected grilled fish, but it turned out to be inedible for us because of the salt and pepper which totally ruined the taste of the fish. We liked the atmosphere, location and wine by the glass choice, but will definitely not return for these reasons

  • Our server, Sarah, was nice
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006
    Dined on 5/30/2008
Our server, Sarah, was nice but not attentive. We ordered crawfish, which were PERFECT, just messy. Sarah rarely came around. When she took our app plates, she never gave us new plates or silverware and we had to track other waiters down for those. I ordered roasted chicken with a sauce that was suppose to be a glaze; instead it was like a chicken soup. The mashed potatoes were drenched in the sauce, and the whole dish was so sweet it was more like a dessert than an entree. Sarah forgot to order my entree and so I watched others eat until 10 minutes later my food came out. We've dined here before and it is great food. Unfortunately, last Friday it was not very good. We'll go back, we were just very disappointed. Thanks for listening.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 5/11/2008
Everything was great as far as the food/drinks go. We had a reservation for dinner on Mother's Day - it wasn't too busy, which was nice. Unfortunately, we were there for almost 2 1/2 hours - it took 15-20 minutes to be greeted by a server, and then only because we flagged one down. My Mom had the blueberry mojito and was a big fan. We both ate the lobster roll - very good and my Step-Dad had the pulled pork - also very good. We ordered dessert - which was very good as well, but I'm not sure it was worth the almost 30 minute wait to get it (banana/walnut empanadas, creme brulee cheesecake and pecan pie). Overall, it was a great dinner, just maybe a green waitstaff...

Once we got to eat the food was pretty good and they were good sports in keeping the buffet open late to accommodate us. The problem was they overbooked themselves on reservations for Easter. We had 2:15 pm reservations and were encouraged to arrive as early as possible? We arrived about 1:45 pm but we weren't seated until after 3:15 pm. We were very unhappy and the staff acted as if they didn't want to serve us. I haven't been to this restaurant again and I'm not planning to again. I would definitely not recommend this place on holidays and after they way my family and I was treated while waiting, I will never, ever go here again!

We have eaten there several times in the past year and quite frankly were very disappointed. The food quality was nothing like it used to be. my husband had clam chowder which was awful. Very watery. Then had some fish and chips was okay but not great. The service was terrible. The waitress would disappear for 20 minutes at a time and the place wasn't very busy. Also, drastic changes to the menu. We won't be back any time soon.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 4/20/2008
For being a "seafood" place, I would rank it fairly low on the scale of desirable. The ambiance is fantastic, but the food very disappointing in presentation and taste. Among the disappointments was my crab Benedict. I had asked specifically for the egg to be cooked over hard. It came barely poached, and the hollandaise was very unappetizing in look, smell and taste; it was not rich and creamy, but was the exact color and thick consistency of raw egg yolks. After bringing me a cup of lobster bisque which WAS very good, they brought back the eggs Benedict. I was stunned; they had just fried an egg and placed it on top! The restaurant looks great, but does not live up to expectations!
