As so many reviews note, Jeff Tunks again has a great restaurant, BUT the noise levels, even in the area away from the bar, are very very high - making this a place we will only go on a slow weekday night. Too bad, because it is otherwise a wonderful addition to the West End!

I've been twice now for dinner and all in all, I really like District Commons. The service is a little "clunky" -- both times I've had very nice servers who were just obviously new and a little nervous. I think this will get better with time. The decor and atmosphere is spot-on. It feels cozy even with a giant wall of windows, so it's great for a date or a catch-up dinner and also perfect for people-watching. The food is very good too. I'm excited to have such a great spot open up in my neighborhood, and I hope it just keeps getting better!

The meal started well with a delicious pretzel baguette, followed by a fantastic bowl of spicy meat chili. I had the fish special, blackened tuna, which was perfectly cooked and extremely flavorful. The only part that was not fantastic was dessert. Both of the desserts that we ordered (boston cream pie and devil's food cake) were very dry and not something I would want again. Overall, the meal was among the best that I have had in DC recently, and the service was friendly without being overbearing. I will definitely be returning to District Commons.

Enjoyed the atmosphere and the modern restaurant decor. They have an excellent beer selection and their wine list is very good with a lot of different price points available. The service is very good. The wait staff is very attentive and understood when to engage and when not to. They did not rush us which I very much appreciated. The food was very good as well. This is not a "high end" restaurant but more of a bar/bistro type menu. Lots of selection and reasonably priced for the area.

Somewhat disappointing. The evening started out strong with some good appetizers but we were disappointed with our entrees and a greasy funnel cake. The seafood chowder was excellent, the Texas chili is a definite winner and the Rocky Road Chocolate Sundae was outstanding. However the burger entree was too dry; the pork chop lacked flavor and the shrimp & grits were not up to our expectation of a Jeff Tunk special. Most disappointing was the funnel cake, which although the dough was light and tasty, was very oily and greasy.

Though new, it has established a new standard in DC. Food is great and, importantly, consistent. The Texas chili is the best I've had outside the Lone Star State - my ancestral home. And the salmon is outstanding. I've had the Pig Board three times - tremendous and worthy of comparison to any national rivals. Finally, the Brick Pressed Chicken is worthy of your attention. I'm generally not a fan of chicken...tends to be dull and overly dry. But this dish defies the stereotype. Plenty of options to satisfy everyone.

A welcome addition to the Foggy Bottom neighborhood. Not a destination restaurant -- yet -- but has the potential to be (only been open a few weeks). The food is very good but no particular standouts; great atmosphere, both at the bar and in the dining area. personable but not cloying servers. a nice wine and beer list. I love that the restaurant paid attention to the special request I wrote in the reservation form. They created a customized note in our menu to greet our birthday celebrant and they wrapped the menu for her to take home. The menu had comfort food elevated to a higher caliber - perfect for a cool, fall day. It would be great if the restaurant had a private dining area for office functions, especially since it's so close to several office buildings.

It gets really pack for lunch, but we went for dinner.. it has a great ambiance, the waiter was really friendly and they have an extensive beer list, they only sell american brewed beers and they have a wide range of them. We ordered their pretzel bagette which I highly recommend. The food was really good, we ordered the blackened mahi mahi, steaks and fries and the chicken.. overall the place is really modern, has a great mood for dining or drinking.. they have a bar too. District Commons has good potential, but there are still a few kinks that need to be worked out. Some of the dishes were excellent (the short rib "burger" was outstanding), as well as the seafood chowder. However, other dishes were less memorable (the chicken entree and the white bean soup was bland). This restaurant group's other restaurants are top-notch, so I'm sure it's just a matter of time until they perfect all of their dishes.

I wasn't too impressed. The restaurant is very nice, with open area's and you can watch them cook in the open kitchen area. The wine and beer lists are extensive and had a variety of choices. The wait staff/service is great and they are very attentive to your needs. I had the vegetable pot pie and did not like it. The vegi's were under-cooked for my taste and there were not enough vegetables, it was mostly potatoes. The puff pastry top was OK. For the price though, I would have at least expected something else on the plate. I hope they pay attention to the reviews, because this could be a great restaurant with a little more attention to the food.

New in the neighborhood, open for two weeks and already quite busy. Good selection of classic sort of fare: steaks, fish, etc but the sides were excellent.
