  • Great Food and Service - Great spot

First visit - Went for Sunday brunch. Great food and drinks! Bloody Mary was exceptional as was the Blood Orange Mimosa both of which were on special and were just $1 with our meals. The brunch selections were unusual and delicious - all four of us loved our food. This is a great place to go before a show at the Kennedy Center - The free shuttle outside the Foggy Bottom Metro stop is just a block away. Waiter was very friendly, professional and thoughtful as was all the staff. It has a beautiful, modern, clean environment that I can see being very popular in the evenings but it was equally comfortable to take my 4 yr. old daughter there. The staff was very nice to her. We had a great experience there and I will definitely be returning

Glad we found it. When they ask if you want their in-house bread, take it--the pretzel baguette with honey mustard butter is divine. Good honest food, simple. Huge beer and wine list, some cocktails. The oysters are better than those we've had by the water in Annapolis. Grilled trout was perfect. No dish was overwhelmed by piles of carbohydrates. They let the main element shine. Wish we had time for dessert. Service was unobtrusive and professional. Pennsylvania Avenue quality without the high prices.

Having worked in the Foggy Bottom area for over a decade, the new growth near the Metro station is more than welcome. I went to to District Commons before a performance at the Kennedy Center and once the server was alerted to the fact that we were going somewhere afterwards, she wanted to know the time of the performance to ensure that we would be there in plenty of time. The pretzel baguette with beer/mustard butter was delicious as were the shrimp and grits and brick-chicken. Can't wait to go back to try more suggestions. The one negative was the noise factor. Even though we were seated from the bar, the restaurant, once filled, became quite noisy.

Excellent meal on Nov 29. Food was very good - "today's catch" black crusted mahi mahi with crab, excellent (better than salmon); appetizers tasty; desserts (root beer and funnel cake) big hits. We were in a booth in the back so noise level was quiet allowing conversation. Service was attentive, but not imposing. Spacious dining room so you are not sitting on top of other diners and lots of tables that accomodate larger groups. Going back again on Sunday.

The atmosphere is a nice balance of busy but not overwhelming. The food was underwhelming. Had the Flatbread Appetizer - bacon and onion which was good. I had the duck and the description by the server sounded terrific, marinated and slow cooked and then crisped over three days...yet the skin was mushy and the fat had not rendered out. The portion was large but none of it had that "wow" flavor. My husband's rack of lamb was acutally individual lamb chops cooked - over cooked. My brother had the Seafood Chowder and said the only flavor he could taste was green pepper. For the three of us, with drinks and wine, the bill was over $200 for a mediocre meal.

I've been twice now for dinner and all in all, I really like District Commons. The service is a little "clunky" -- both times I've had very nice servers who were just obviously new and a little nervous. I think this will get better with time. The decor and atmosphere is spot-on. It feels cozy even with a giant wall of windows, so it's great for a date or a catch-up dinner and also perfect for people-watching. The food is very good too. I'm excited to have such a great spot open up in my neighborhood, and I hope it just keeps getting better!

The meal started well with a delicious pretzel baguette, followed by a fantastic bowl of spicy meat chili. I had the fish special, blackened tuna, which was perfectly cooked and extremely flavorful. The only part that was not fantastic was dessert. Both of the desserts that we ordered (boston cream pie and devil's food cake) were very dry and not something I would want again. Overall, the meal was among the best that I have had in DC recently, and the service was friendly without being overbearing. I will definitely be returning to District Commons.

Enjoyed the atmosphere and the modern restaurant decor. They have an excellent beer selection and their wine list is very good with a lot of different price points available. The service is very good. The wait staff is very attentive and understood when to engage and when not to. They did not rush us which I very much appreciated. The food was very good as well. This is not a "high end" restaurant but more of a bar/bistro type menu. Lots of selection and reasonably priced for the area.

Somewhat disappointing. The evening started out strong with some good appetizers but we were disappointed with our entrees and a greasy funnel cake. The seafood chowder was excellent, the Texas chili is a definite winner and the Rocky Road Chocolate Sundae was outstanding. However the burger entree was too dry; the pork chop lacked flavor and the shrimp & grits were not up to our expectation of a Jeff Tunk special. Most disappointing was the funnel cake, which although the dough was light and tasty, was very oily and greasy.
