The Comus Inn is a quiet, romantic setting with attractive decor and beautiful views of Sugarloaf Mountain, and upscale without being pretentious or remontely uncomfortable. We have celebrated our wedding anniversary there several times, because we can count on the food being delicious, the service friendly and accommodating and the evening a success. We like to save our visits there for special occasions so it always is special.

The restaurant seems to yearn to be an upscale eating spot. However, the managers and wait staff are still stuck in the chain food mode. The service was okay, albeit slow. The managers vocalize their dissappointment with kitchen and wait staff inaapropriately infront of or within earshot of customers. It wasn't a reality T.V. show featuring a pompous chef, so it isn't called for. The food was good. I have a hard time placing it above good since this portion of a meal is my favorite and it wasn't close to the best. I reserve outstandings for places like Marcel's.

The food was quite good and both my wife and I cleaned our plates. The service was great and the waitress was knowledgable and friendly. I would highly recommend it and we will be returning again in the future.

Went to the Comus Inn on Valentine's Day, which they offered a flat rate prix fix menu. The food may be different on normal days, but the food for the Valentine's Day menu was fantastic. We ordered both the fish and chicken entree's that were both cooked perfectly (nice char, but still moist). And the bread pudding dessert was amazing - truly one of the best I've ever had. I thought the service was spot on. They don't pack the tables in the rooms, so the servers were able to pay a little more attention. So our wine glasses were always full and each course was brought out in a well timed manner. At no point did I feel rushed. Comus also had all of the available wines from the local Elk Run Winery, which was a nice touch.

Limited menu but well thought out. We were a party of 4 and all choices were excellent. Extremely good wine list. Service is enthusiastic and friendly. Short ribs were cooked perfectly with a wonderful mole sauce and bread pudding one of the best we've had. All in all a very enjoyable evening, worth a return trip.

My wife and I had reservations for the Valentine's Day prix fixe dinner special on the Saturday night before Valentine's Day. The food was decent but the service was less than what I would expect for a special occasion given the total on the check. We bought a bottle of sparkling wine and had to pour most of it ourselves. The service seemed a little disorganized at times - perhaps they were short on staff. If we go back we would go on a normal night. The previous time we ate dinner there the food was great and we had no complaints.

Service was good. 3 observations: the room with the view towards the Sugar Loaf mountain was rather cold; it was one of the coldest evenings of the season. The Valentine's menu with the salmon had only 2 small potatoes on the plate (cheapest ingredient) and perhaps 3 small Brussels sprouts. Also, our two-person table was right at the entrance to that room, although I had reserved at least one week + before the evening.

    Disappointed
    Dined on 2/10/2012
I was dissapointed with the food although we chose a tasting menu with multiple courses. My husband and i made the mistake of visiting on an evening when they offered very loud live music which made it very difficult to have a conversation and honestly detracted from our meal. The scenery is beautiful and it's nice to get away from downtown frederick/DC/Baltimore for a nice meal.

Even though we were a large group for a weekend lunch (after hiking Sugarloaf), we were treated royally and even got to sit on the closed in porch. Food, setting and service all outstanding. Highly recommend Sunday brunch there.

  • Comus Inn continues to impress...

The dining room was sparsely patronized on a recent Saturday night, perhaps because regular patrons learned there was a wedding downstairs that evening. Nonetheless, the food and service were at their normal exemplary level, and the sound from the DJ's music downstairs wasn't obtrusive upstairs. We had an enjoyable evening in every way.

This restaurant was very nice. Menu is not large but I like good food w/ less menu than a big menu with only so-so food. Beautiful setting inside and out. My worry is they were not very busy except for a wedding downstairs. I worry about how they are doing w/ so little business.

Our party of four went to the Christmas Day buffet. Buffet was well stocked; food that was supposed to be hot was hot and the cold food was cold. The staff was exceptional - we requested other seating and were changed immediately. Overall it was a wonderful experience. We find ourselves coming back again and again to this charming restaurant with the excellent food.
