Have had lunch here many times, tried it for dinner- just one waiter and getting food very slow. Then our dinners came one at a time with delay- would not come for dinner again but love the food!

We will not go back again. Not good experience at all. Service was so poor, we had to wait for our food for over an hour. Not at all recommended.

While they have had issues in the past with slow service, this last occasion was dismal. It took our party of seven over 2 ½ hours to have dinner. Meals were brought out to each of us randomly over this time period with some incorrectly filled. Other guests were experiencing this too. To exacerbate this was the flow of meals going out the door for phone orders. Very little was said by our waitress and no apologies ever rendered for this mismanaged experience.

Three of us found the restaurant's food lacking in flavor, except for the coconut-based soup with shrimp which was quite good. Food was mostly bland & too westernized for our tastes. Examples of disappointment: overly breaded deep-fried calamari; pad se ew noodles lacked the typical sauce; clay pot with sea food had no distinct flavors except blandness. Overpriced food for the value received. Lastly, the male waiter was not very welcoming, nor did he come by the table except to give us the bill; in fact, he seemed very bored to be there.

It would be hard to find better food or worst service for the price. I have been there quite a few times in the last couple of years and might still go back but only for early lunch or at low trafic times - they simply do not have enough staff to handle rush hours.

We've been here many times and it never disappoints us. Always delicious food, prepared beautifully. Service was prompt and efficient. The only negative at all is that the booths are uncomfortable, so we always make it a point to sit at the tables,

I would consider Star Anise to be an authentic high-end Thai restaurant with very reasonable food and wine prices. Everything about it is genuine. The service, the food, the ingredients are all thoughtfully substituted and very close to what you would find in Thailand. The food dishes are very fresh and beautifully presented.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2009VIP

Service is really bad at this place. First, we had to wait 10 minutes by the entrance before anyone acknowledged us only to be rudely told that our OpenTable reservation will not be honored because we made it within the same day. We were then told that we're "lucky" that they had a table available right next to the door. Once seated, it took another 20+ minutes before our orders were taken. There was only 1 waitress working that night. Food was at least decent but it was not as good as it used to be when this place first opened. (To OpenTable: If this restaurant can't support same day reservations, please duly note it on your site. That or you can kick this restaurant out of your list. They won't be missed!).

  • Good Food, Service could be better
    OpenTable Diner Since 2005
    Dined on 2/4/2012
We've been here before many times and had better service previously. The food is good, but there were only two people working the dining room so service was a little slow. Also, they noted that we had made reservations about 30 minutes before the reservation time and said that they usually don't honor unless it was done 24 hours ahead of time. I thought the whole purpose of Opentable was that it was in real time (or at least quicker than 24 hours.) Seems like they are choosing to not utilize the full functionality or don't know how. They honored the reservation, but we felt awkward - the waiter came over to the table to tell us specifically that we should call rather than use Opentable if we're going to reserve and eat in the same day

My husband and I had a truly delicious dinner at Star Anise. Not only is the food wonderful but it is beautifully presented. The tables are quite close together though and there were four men seated next to us having a very lively conversation. It made it difficult for us to carry on our own conversation. The restaurant is in a small space and popular so that's the reality!
