Very enjoyable experience. I am more of a Butcher and Singer person and I had never experienced a vegan menu. Our waitress, Jill, was very knowledgeable and broke down the menu for us. The food was excellent. Everything is fresh and the various combinations were delicious. They also have a nice wine list which complimented the meal. I had the "cheese cake" for desert and have no idea how they can make such a rich tasting morsel without cream. The coffee at the end of the meal was served with soy milk. A totally unique experience for me. Highly recommended.

  • This is a rare find! Vedge-Out!

This place is truly vegan and gourmet...a rare find! The flavors and the preparation were unique. But best of all you can try many dishes because they are priced and sized to taste. A typical meal is 3 plates per person. If your partner is willing to share you can taste a great variety. The wait staff is fully knowledgable of all ingredients and means of preparation. They are fully knowledgable about the brief but interesting and worthy wine list. I don't know how the chef does it, but the delicate flavors of non-dairy ice cream (you must try the "pop corn", "chocolate chipotle", and "kara kara orange") were light and rich in flavor...superior to others I've tried.

The food here is great. But food is not everything in a dining experience. A surly host was rude to a customer who needed alternate seating because of a bad back, so I offered to let them take my standard chairs instead of high stools, and easy compromise I thought, to make someone happy. With great appreciation, they accepted. His comment that they would have to go on a wait list on a night where it was cold and rainy and the restaurant was 2/3 full on a Mon. night at 8:00, did not warrant such a snooty response. In the end, this couple graciously and without any fanfare, picked up my tab for my dinner in thanks. What a surprise! All to say that a bit more compassion goes a long way for customers with special needs. Pay it forward.

Much more variety than what you might expect from this gem. If you like contrasts in cuisine, such as in texture and temperature, it's surprising the range of dishes you will find here. The food is much more filling than you might think. It comes in small dishes, both for appetizers and entrees, but don't think you have to order numerous plates to have your appetite slaked. We ordered two appetizers and two entree plates, and easily would have been satisfied with less food (next time we will order a little less). Much to discover here. It's a lovely spot with a good feel to it. Our small table in the back was very comfortable and noise was not an issue. We will be back to relish in the pleasures of this wonderful spot.

As a vegetable, tofu, and seitan devotee, I was really looking forward to experiencing Vedge. The restaurant is indeed a really nice space and the service was very good. It was the food that disappointed me. It was all so fantastically worked upon, as if the vegetables had to be hidden, macerated, and disguised. The gorgeous textures of the vegetables were largely gone. In the end, the plates I enjoyed most were those whose ingredients were less "transformed," including the seitan. I am thrilled that there is a vegetarian place like this, but I hope in future that they develop some of the menu for those who just really love vegetables and include a few minimalist options.

I was very disappointed. Having heard and read amazing reviews of this place, I was expecting spectacular, and being vegetarian I was excited for a restaurant specialising in vegetarian/vegan fare. But I found the food rather flavorless and not worth the price. AND I left feeling hungry. My fiancee and I are not big eaters - wherever we go that serves small plates, 4-5 plates between us is always more than enough - we usually cannot finish what we've ordered. At Vedge, we ordered 5 small plates, and were still hungry after; unfortunately, we were so unimpressed by the food, we decided against ordering anymore and got dessert instead, which was again disappointing. We won't be going back.

A long-time fan of Horizons from back in the days when it was a funky little place in a strip mall in Abington, I was looking forward to my first trip to Vedge. I expected generous portions of flavorful vegetarian fare, but got skimpy plates of lackluster veggies instead. Perhaps my taste buds soured after I paid $14 for one glass of Chardonnay. To be fair, my husband's picks--the grilled seitan and gold beet dishes--were much better tasting than mine (the portabella carpaccio and roasted maitake mushrooms), but all were pricy for the small portions. While Vedge is lovely and in the most convenient location yet (within walking distance of Broad Street theaters), overall, it was a disappointment.

The food is beautiful and beautifully prepared. Many dishes are incredibly inventive yet approachable with terrific flavors. Service is professional and friendly. The desserts kill. The bar and dining area decor is spectacular, contemporary while maintaing the integrity of the old building. If you proudly drive a Prius, you'll love the entire experience of being here. If, on the other hand, you would choose any other eco-friendly car over the Prius because there's just something too smugly precious about that car, well, you might get a twinge of that feeling while here. Still, well worth a visit.

Outstanding dining experience. Great for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. My wife and I made annual trips to Horizons for our anniversary and her birthday so we were disappointed to find it closed in 2011. While I will miss the outstanding mojitos served at Horizons, we both felt Vedge surpassed Horizons in quality of dishes and overall dining experience. It was definitely one of the best meals I've had and I'm not vegetarian.

Entrees were delicious. Loved the garbanzo crepe. Ordered ice cream trio for dessert. Requested two pistachio and one mint chip. Mint chip was delicious, but my spouse and I found the pistachio to be very unappetizing. I asked to have the untouched second pistachio replaced with a mint chip since we didn't like it, and they gave me a hard time. Said they stand by their food and don't take back. That makes no sense, and is very poor customer relations for a restaurant of this caliber and expense. After the waitress pleaded again with the manager, they thankfully acquiesced. However, the pistachio left a poor taste in our mouths in more ways than one.

This is by far the best vegetarian food I've ever eaten! I used to go to Horizon's on occasion (I'm not a HUGE vegetarian fan but like to try new places regularly). I can't believe what the Chef/kitchen can do with Tofu, Seitan, and vegetables. The small vegetable plates to start were ALL exceptional (we ordered one of each for our party of 4) and the appetizers were thoughtful and seasoned to perfection. I will say that the entrees were good but not as exceptional as the appetizers (though, it may have been because everything else was so good that our taste buds were in overload!). But, I really do think that there is only so much you can do with a block of Tofu :) I will say the desserts were the highlight of the meal. This place ROCKS

I enjoyed my experience at Vedge. To be honest, I went there because my girlfriend was really excited about it. I'm not anti-vegan or anything, but I wasn't exactly excited to go to a vegan restaurant that night. Anyways, I was VERY surprised at how sumptuous and delicious the food was, surprisingly rich sauces without a focus on fake meats and dairy. I respected this focus on vegetables and not some attempt to be like meat. The beer list, draft and bottled, was great. I noticed an impressive-looking wine list, but I can't speak educatedly about that. The only negative thing that comes to mind is that some things seemed a bit salty, but that's okay with me!

My wife and I were excited to go to Vedge for the first time for our Valentine's dinner but we were still a little reserved, maybe feeling a tad bruised from the fact that Horizons moved from our neighborhood to a new location a couple blocks away to become Vedge. That feeling melted within 5 minutes of being there. From the coat check staff on up, the staff was awesome (I actually believe co-owner Kate Jacoby was hostessing when we arrived). Their new uniforms were a nice change from the all black Horizons outfit. The ambiance was great, very relaxing, the food was stellar and the drinks and dessert were awesome. My first experience definitely put my fears to rest and I cannot wait to go back soon. Leave it to us vegans to do it better.
