A word from Petite Abeille
New York's go-to destination for authentic Belgian food and one of the city's largest selections of Belgian beer since 1996, Petite Abeille (Little Bee) continues to buzz with robust, moderately priced dishes that prove the old axiom of Belgian food being of French quality with German portions.

The 20th Street restaurant is Petite Abeille's flagship boasting a commodious bar with 30 Belgian brews on draft (New York's largest array) and seating configurations that makes it as comfortable for groups or families as it is inviting for couples.

Family style platters of Belgian classics such as carbonnade flamande, a rich beef stew made with Belgian beer, that serve four to five are a Petite Abeille 20th Street signature and are ideal for convivial gatherings taking advantage of special beverage offerings – half price on all Belgian beers on Monday evenings and half price on all bottles from the compact by carefully curated wine list every Tuesday.

There were hits and misses. Nice atmosphere, very kid-friendly with kids running up and down the restaurant. We had to wait for a while to get our food but the meal was good -- although the mussels I ordered were good but did not come with enough of the white wine sauce that was offered. The service was poor, we had to ask for water five times before we got it forty minutes later.

I'm a big fan of this resto (particularly the one on 17th st). I always enjoy the food here esp the muscles!it was a quiet night so place wasn't crowded. I prefer the location of the 17th st one but my partner prefers this one bcz it is more spacious, less crowded and when we went there it had absolutely no wait time (which is never the case at the other esp since they don't take reservations there).

  • I've been here for mussels
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 3/7/2012
I've been here for mussels night and for brunch. Similar experiences both times. The mussels varied between being okay and being pretty good -- the deal is very good though. It's perfect for a couple of friends to share a few different flavors. The service is good/okay. The restaurant is rather large by NYC standards (read: not a hole in the wall), which means lots of families, and also lots of babies. It's very kid-friendly, which is great for families, but can be a little inconveniencing when strollers are always being pushed into your table by the next table. Brunch was good!

I experience Petite Abeille with a large group of 15 people , every one enjoyed the food and the experience, The restaurant manager was so kind that he arranged one side of the restaurant for us, he even arranged vegan food for a friend. The beer selection is outstanding. The authentic Belgian food and service was great. Highly recommended.

Petite Abeille offers a medium priced wine but doesn't have it. This seems to be a new trend at restaurants. Then they offer you one for 10 dollars more. Good restaurants sell the more expensive one at the lower price when they are really out of the less expensive wine. They lost a $300 dinner that night.

Great spot for brunch with friends; bustling, yet cozy. The Belgian waffle with maple syrup was perfectly crispy and absolutely divine; so much so that I ate two on my own. Only good things to be said too for both the Croque Madame and the Cocotte. And a special mention for the coffee. Service was friendly and attentive.

This restaurant had been suggested to us as a great place for brunch. We would say that the waffles lived up to the billing, but the egg dishes were disappointing. The biggest complaint we had was with the service. Our waitress took our order and then she basically forgot us. There were no refills offered on water, coffee, or anything else. She just stood around and talked with others from the staff. We would give this restaurant another chance since the poor service could have skewed our view of the whole experience.

  • Petite Abeille on 20th/1st
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 12/16/2011
Petite Abeille on 20th/1st has become my neighborhood go-to after work during the week for the salmon burger, roast salmon, Belgian fries, overall service and more. But on Friday night there was an overwhelming number of families with very young children all of whom seemed bent on emitting random piercing screams. The noise levels increased to the point that my dinner companion and I had to shout to hear across the small table-for-two, cupping our hands behind our ears to hear each other. I asked for a table away from any families but alas none was to be had. And even if there had been an isolated table, those piercing screams undoubtedly would have reached us anyway. I will go back...but not on Friday night.

  • Dinner not for vegies
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 11/30/2011
the 3 of us are vegetarians. 2 out of 3 eat fish. There was almost nothing for the non-fish eating vegie to eat. The salad, which he ordered, had hard boiled eggs, which he does not eat and had told waitress this. My salmon was soggy--not good. The food that should have been hot was luke-warm. I asked for coke when others ordered beer before ordering meals. I asked 2xs for it, when meal was served and half way thru. She brought it after they had removed dinner plates. We have had brunch there and it was excellent. We will not return for dinner.

This was our first visit to the restaurant and the food was very good. There were 4 of us and each of us was pleased with our food choice - mussels, Mac and cheese, hamburger and a salad. We dined around 6:00pm and there were many families with young children so the noise level was considerable. We declined the first table we were offered as it was surrounded by tables with young children. The second table was a little more removed from the din.

If I had to use one word to describe Petite Abeille, it would be reliable. If you just want to relax, have a good beer and some tasty food (the mussels and the burgers are very good, the fries among the best in the city), this is the place. On the downside, the service can be uneven. Some servers are very good (they seem to put the best at the bar), others obviously don't know the menu very well.

The mussels were delicious! ....but the fries were horrible. It was disappointing to find out that this Belgian restaurant uses soybean oil to prepare french fries when authentic belgian cuisine would require that sunflower oil be used. I will not go back or recommend.

The food here was expensive for what the quality of the meal you received. The portions were generous, but the quality was mediocre and not exciting; the food was fine, absolutely no problems, it just did not warrant such a high price tag. Great deal on Monday nights, half off Belgian beers (their entire draft menu) until close. Most of their beers are $7 and up, but it is still a great deal.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2010
    Dined on 10/17/2011
I enjoyed my salmon burger and mussels appetizer, but there were a number of small details that were irritating. I had to ask for a kids' menu for my three year old as well as a high chair (which I had requested beforehand on Open Table). We asked for more bread to enjoy the mussels broth, only to realize that the dish had been taken away. My friend got the mussels as an entree and there was barely any broth in her pot to enjoy. She also had to wait for her fries. Our waitress was nowhere to be seen for a good portion of our meal. Let's just say they aren't the best restaurant for big groups not sharing a family sized dish. On the plus side, we adored the Tin Tin decor at the back of the restaurant. Overall, the food wasn't worth the price.
