A word from Safari Room Fresh Grill and Bar
It doesn't take an explorer to seek out the aptly named Safari Room amid the exotic zebra-print furniture and carved elephant busts of the Davenport Tower lobby. The frequent hum of activity, the sparkle of laughter and conversation — not to mention the incredibly affordable lunch and dinner specials — seem to draw scores of guests almost instinctively.

Since opening in 2007, this truly stylish restaurant has had the quiet distinction of becoming a kind of pet project to owner Walt Worthy. It is a place where he has been able to introduce all the classic Southern fare from his youth in Georgia: dishes like homestyle grits, savory smoked barbecue, indulgent fried okra, and flatbreads fired in a special oven then sprinkled with tantalizing toppings. Yet the menu is broad enough to satisfy all cravings, no matter whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

The Safari Room was lovely. Beautiful architecture, great area with booths, and very quiet too. The 3 course dinner for $15, was amazing. We had the teriyaki salmon, with rice, and fresh small green beans, with a caesar salad, followed by a small but FABULOUS creme brûlée, plenty for me. Just a great experience. We had a wonderful up-beat, fun waiter, Andrew, who made the whole time just a great ending for our vacation.

The appetizers and beverages, decor' and service were fantastic! We went with friends and had the $15 3 course dinner. Our salads were delicious, as was the creme brulee and cheesecake. We like that they offer their mini desserts for $2, giving one the opportunity to sample several, if they wish. The entrees were nothing special, although plated very beautifully. The ambiance was lovely with the exception of a couple of children which got out of hand. One, an infant that cried loudly, the other a toddler who was let free from their high chair to run the isle between the tables. As a parent and grandparent, I wish more diners would be respectful of others when deciding where to take their children, and how to deal with them once there.

I took my daughter for her first time to the Safari Room and the food was great. We had an unexpected guest, my 9 month old grandson and the server took good care of us. She brought him a high chair and some bread and butter, he was happy as a clam. We truly enjoyed ourselves for dinner that evening.

The food was very good overall. We started with the Thai Flatbread appetizer, which was outstanding. For our entree's we had the house specialty Gumbo, which was good, but not near as spicy as I'd been forewarned, and a cheeseburger, which was outstanding. If there's a negative at all from our experience, it was the ambiance. The restaurant itself reminded us of a 'cafeteria' rather than a formal restaurant. Although adequate, it was a bit too bright and open to be formal. It served it's purpose. We rarely get out and we're looking for a quiet, semi-formal place to go before heading to a concert at the Fox. We were surprised that this was the 'best' restaurant the Devenport had to offer.

My husband and I ate at the Safari Room for our 10th anniversary dinner. It was the evening of the Lilac Parade, so we had a great view of the parade from our table by the window. The food was good, but I was glad for their $15/3-course special. The food was good, but if you dine at restaurants very frequently, you will have had better. I wouldn't have paid their regular price for it, but it was surely worth the $15. The waitress was prompt and friendly and mentioned our special occasion specifically. We were seated immediately upon arriving for our reservation. Notable, the creme brulee was outstanding! The best I've ever had! It was fairly loud for a nice restaurant though.

The special price menu was a good deal - three courses for $15 with a choice of 5-6 entrees. Pretty informal setting in lobby of Davenport Tower Hotel. We made a reservation after a special event but the restaurant didn't seem to pay any attention to it. They just put us on the list for a table so we were seated 15-20 minutes after the reservation time even though we arrived on time.

Mothers day brunch was booked up at the other Davenport restaurants. So by default we made a reservation at Safari Room. The service is top notch. We did not feel rushed or crowded. We had a party of 8 including 4 children ages 2 through 10. Every item we ordered was delish and we are tough to please. Bloody Mary was the best! Davenport coffee cake is a must. The brunch menu offers enough variety for everyone's taste. And there is a good kids menu that is reasonable and large portions. The hash browns are crispy & soft at the same time. Crab omelette was quite flavorful. We will go again! Our waitress was Gale and she was so unbelievably nice.

While the wait staff was cordial, the service was fairly slow (Of course that could have everything to do with the kitchen, too.) considering it was not very busy at all. Regarding the food, The hash browns were great, but the eggs benedict was over cooked and the omelets were so-so. Our meal came out in pieces. i.e.we got our main dish and they forgot two of the sides so we had to wait for that. Another thing I thought was odd was that our waitress came over towards the end of our meal and said they were making her take her break so someone else would finish up with us. My theory is when you're paying top dollar for a brunch in a nice atmosphere, you expect top dollar service and food! Ours was mediocre to say the least.

It's a good location, near the Fox, and care is taken to complete service in time to arrive for the opening performance. The $15 three-course meals are good choices, and the menu choices change regularly enough to come again and again. Food is delicious. The portions, particularly the entre, are gigantic -- particulary if you wish to add a tasty appetizer, as we usually do. Since we're going on to an event, left-overs aren't an option, and there's too much waste. The venue is very noisy, although it is easier to talk to your table companions in the booth area. Service was sporadic, with different people offering help, but no clear waitperson. Our entre was served just after we received our salads, and then a long wait to see anyone again.

They have a nice sized menu; not to big, but enough selections that you don't feel as if you only have a couple options. The drink menu is outstanding. The food was very good and the service is pretty good. Our server seemed a little pretentious, but we didn't let that bother us. The noise level is the only thing that put a damper on the evening. We were out on date night and it was hard to hold a conversation over the noise. It won't deter us from going back, but if we want a quiet dinner for two we will probably pick someplace else.

Three of us had a reservation at 615 for dinner on a Saturday night before an 8pm show, and the service was quite slow at first which had us worried. But once we told our server we had a show she sped things up, and overall she was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The decor is fabulous with an actual huge stuffed tiger, the 3-course $15 dinner menu is a great choice as well, but I'd warn vegetarians that there's not going to be much for them. Also, if you're on a budget, don't get any alcoholic drinks if you're not there at happy hour. A glass of wine was $8-9, and my double martini was $10. But it was all delicious and very reasonably priced overall.
