A word from Jessica's at Swift House
A meal at Jessica's Restaurant is always memorable. The recently updated dining room is a reflection of the casual comfort and style of this New England country inn. Jessica's Restaurant is located in the Swift House Inn in Middlebury, Vermont. Jessica's is just two blocks from downtown Middlebury, set in an 1814 stately home, surrounded by beautiful lawns and gardens. Jessica's casual atmosphere is the perfect place for a dinner for two, or a celebratory dinner for four to forty! Come early and enjoy our bar; Tom, with his more than 30 years of bartending experience, can fix you a cocktail or help you choose the right bottle of wine. We have won the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for our wine list for six straight years! We also have local beers on tap including Switchback, from Burlington,Vermont; and two brews from Middlebury's Otter Creek Brewery or Drop-In Brewery.

  • Too spicy!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012

Jessica's is overall a good restaurant. However, there were two points that reconfirm my opiniontjat Jessica's was only "good". The main course I chose was extremely spicy, in fact so spicy that my lips were burning. Nowhere on the menu did it mention how spicy it was, and neither did the waitress who was serving us. This was a big disappointment, especially considering that I initially thought the dish sounded very authentic: a stuffed pepper, stuffed with polenta & cheddar cheese, with an avocado sauce, although the stuffed pepper ended up being a jalapeño pepper, and the sauce turned out to be just as spicy! Finally, the cheese plate we got to finish our meal was overly priced. $3 per slice, and each slice was so small!

Appetizers and main courses were outstanding. Ingredients were locally sourced. The menu featured a wide variety of items. The server was knowledgeable and attentive. The restruant itself is in a well preserved historical building. The wine list was varied and well thought out. This was my first visit but the others in my party had been there before and the restruant is consistent in offering great food and service.

We are foodies - and it was very good... Not outstanding, but very good. A party of two with an app, dinners, wine and a dessert can expect to spend around $250 dollars. A little steep for what you received.

Extensive wine list, lots of selection of entrees and desserts; we were very impressed with this restaurant. We will stop by again, next time in Middlebury. The waitress & somelier(sp?) were both very attentive. My wife had the scallop special and I had the pork chop as my entree since they were out of the duck which has been my first choice. We shared the maple cream brule, which was good but not special.

Took my mom here for mothers day and overall it was a good experience. The waitress was very friendly and knowlegeable of the spring menu. Since we didnt have anything from the bar, i cannot rate the sommelier but he did seem friendly as well. This was not my first time here and i can honestly say that all my times here have been positive experiences. They change their menu every season and the food are of quality and from local places.

The Swift House manages to combine "high class" and "casual" just perfectly. You feel very much at home (only it's a really really nice home!) The bar is unique -- soft comfortable seats more like a living room than a bar. The people are super-friendly and the menus is varied and interesting.

we met for Easter dinner with family. Location was central for all of us. The food reviews were positive, and the quietness I expected from a small restaurant was essential in choosing a restaurant. I am hard of hearing, even with help. Jessica's was an excellent choice! We all got to choose our favorite food. The prices were reasonable. We were not pressured into expensive bottles of wine. The atmosphere was conducive to quiet conversation....Service was seamless. We'll go back!

Third time at Jessica's and we've yet to be disappointed. Service was just the right pace for a special dinner out - relaxed, not rushed, yet attentive as needed. There were 3 people in our party and we all had different appetizers, entrées and desserts. All of them were delightfully delicious. And the wine list offered ample choices to accompany our meal.

The service was great at Jessica's. They have a sommalier and server for every table. I highly recommend the Wine Flight. The sommalier pairs a glass of wine with your appetizer and main course then you get a nice dessert wine to complete the meal. It was fabulous. The food was super too. For a special evening out, this is a nice little gem that should be discovered by folks who enjoy fine dining in a casual yet elegant atmosphere.

Jessica's is one of our absolute favorite area restaurants ... the Inn itself is lovely, and the restaurant is a definite Go To. Tom is always welcoming, friendly, and really knows wine (which is extremely helpful when making your way through the thoroughly extensive wine list). On our latest visit, we were assisted by Jason, who was not only well-versed on the menu, but also quite enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about the many wines offered at Jessica's, and wine in general ... really quite surprising in someone so young (note to Jessica's: Jason is a really great find). There were two large groups dining while we were there, and everything seemed to be flowing right along. Highly recommended.
