The service was amateurish and unprofessional. Bright smiles and friendliness don't make up for leaving us waiting too long to be seated and served. Our food came out before our wine, which was served way too warm. This wouldn't be a big deal anywhere else in the country, but this is Sonoma, of all places -- I would expect the wine service to be impeccable. This is clearly a place that is riding on its undeserved reputation. The food was very good, but there's good food everywhere. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.

  • The best restaurant in Sonoma
    OpenTable Diner Since 2013

The best restaurant in Sonoma hands down. We had a 9pm reservation and were seated by 9:15pm. The host comped us 2 champagne cocktails and an endive salad for our "trouble". The food was outstanding, the wine list was extensive, and the staff went out of their way to make us feel special. In fact I felt like they may have had us confused for a celebrity couple. I would highly recommend this restaurant to any visitor of Sonoma.

Certainly the best restaurant in the town of Sonoma. Small and intimate. Food is delicious. Have eaten there several times, and liked everything we tried. Sometimes it takes a while to get your table, even with a reservation, since people like to linger over coffee.

The first courses and the 2 fish, pork and chicken main courses were excellent. The local vegetables were fresh, bright and full of flavor. The main courses were cooked to perfection. The food rating would have garnered an "Outstanding" however the desserts fell a bit short. The warm almond cake was decent but the accompanying apricot puree/sauce too bitter. We had another dessert but somehow can't recall it.

Our meals at Cafe la Haye were all fantastic and the prices were a pleasant surprise for such a good restaurant. While our server was a bit harried and distracted, she was friendly and helpful. The appetizer salads were delicious as were our main courses. Three of us had a roasted chicken dish with an amazing mustard sauce. The cauliflower gratin was so good, it almost made us forget it was cauliflower. The arctic char dish was beautifully prepared and delicious. This is a great, intimate little restaurant that is worthy of the hype it's received over the last few years. We'd definitely recommend it and will go back when we're in Sonoma next.

The relaxed atmosphere, appealing menu and knowledgeable waitress were a great first impression. This was only exceeded by the quality of the produce and the excellently balanced dishes. The food is sophisticated without being fussy. We ordered stuffed calimari and oysters from the Sonoma coast to start followed by local organic Chicken and Quail (their signature dish). We both tasted all dishes and agreed that it was superb that all the lovely organic produce could be savoured without anything overpowering the flavour. So hard to find sometimes! It was our last night of our vacation but this will be first on my list for future visits to Sonoma.

This Gem was recomended to me by Chef John Ash. And if he suggests something it's for good reason. Cafe La Haye lived up to its hype. The fresh ingredients combined with creative innovation from the Chef was a real treat. The server was very attentive and kind. Although small and limited, the wine list matched the restaurant well with local purveyors and California's favorites including a favorite of mine, Radio Coteau. Very excellent dinning experience.

I may be getting jaded because this place was awesome, indeed memorable. With so many great Bay Area restaurants now, it's difficult to rate anything "a rare find." But it totally deserves to be on the Chronicle Top 100 Bay Area restaurants. It was a very enjoyable evening (Sat. 6/7, 7PM).

Cafe La Haye is a gem. 14 tables. not technically a bistro, but not far off the pace. lovely open, light atmosphere. fellow diners aren't that far apart, but atmosphere can still be intimate. food is pure, local, delicious, creative. about 8 selections in each portion of the menu, try and pick just one, i dare you. wine list matches. not a gzillion selections, but 6 to 8 in each section, pick just one, i dare you. and they are not trying to insult you with their prices. if you do, however, want to spend $350, you can do that on the reserve list. 2th anniversary july 2st. go celibrate with them!

WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T BE LATE BECAUSE THEY WILL GIVE YOUR TABLE AWAY. We had A 7:00 p.m. reservation and we were ten minutes late and they gave it to the 7:15 reservation. Then we had to wait until someone left which was not until 7:30. Once we sat down everything was fine. Service and food were good but the service help (the guys who fill water and clear plates could be a little more polished when it comes to performing these tasks.
