A word from Al and Alma's Supper Club
Al and Alma’s Supper Club was founded in 1956 by Al and Alma Quist. During the day Al was a firefighter and the Mayor of Island Park, at night he cooked the best food on the lake! His idea of creating a dining destination worth making a trip for propelled a lasting history as Lake Minnetonka's longest operating restaurant. Open for dinner only, today's modern restaurant embraces recipes that have spanned three generations. The term "Supper Club" embraces our past but requires no membership! Hand cut steaks, slow cooked BBQ ribs, famous campstyle walleye and homemade desserts accompany modern American fare and delightful nightly specials including fresh ocean fish. Join us out on Phelps Island; you'll be glad you did!
Al & Alma's restaurant is a perfect choice if you want a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, good food, and wonderful service.

Third and last attempt at Al and Alma's. Overpriced, low-quality, clueless service in every aspect.

We've been going to Al and Alma's for years and have never had a bad experience. I hope this was a fluke, but the food was not nearly as good as the last time we ate there. My wife's french dip was nearly unedible, our friend's jumbalaya was all rice with very little anything else, and our other friend's sea bass was tiny. We spent $154 on this outing, for food that McDonald's wouldn't serve.

Our waitress was very nice and helpful and very attentive. It seemed to have an older crowd but the food was very good and the neighborhood was nice and quiet.

Good food, good service, friendly staff. Dinning is in one large room so it may not be quiet if that is want you want. I will go there again.

  • Not What I Expected
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012

I ordered ribs; they came out burnt & tough. I voiced my concern to the server & she offered to get me another rack. The 2nd was much better; very tender. Al & Alma's was not what I expected. I expected a somewhat fancy, mildly formal large dining room overlooking Lake Minnetonka but found out it was a bar/restaurant w/ several windows overlooking a sliver of the lake & more so the not so attractive back of the house across the street. For the anticipation of a "special" dining experience celebrating a birthday, I was pretty disappointed. The staff I had contact with were friendly & the food was eventually good but the ambiance was just not there. I will try a dinner cruise at some point but probably not the dining room again for sometime.

  • Great for Dining or just drinks!

We have been here for just drinks & also have dined here 3 or 4 Times. Very cozy room with a beautiful view of Lake Minnetonka from any table! They serve steak & seafood dinners to burger or chicken baskets and salads. My husband had the sausage pastaand I had the Reuben sandwich basket. Both were very good!I had the house red wine & my husband had a soda with our Dinners. Very friendly & fast service!I would recommend reservations, can get busy with the locals.

Al & Alma's never disappoints. The food is fantastic. I had Al's ribs (fall off the bone tender)and the others had the Asian salad (very good) fish fry (tasty not a lot of breading) and the burger (juicy and big). Would recommend. Wait staff was very attentive. There was not a long wait for food to be delivered. The lake and a small park are across the road for a short stroll after dinner.

I am sorry to say that we were disappointed in our experience at your restaurant. I specifically asked if the BBQ ribs were "Fall off the bone tender" and I was told the were and they definitely were not, plus they were very dry. My husband ordered prime rib done "medium" and there was not any medium done meat on it. It was all rare to med rare. He did get his hashbrowns though which made him happy. The fish & chips that another member of our party ordered had fish that was way over done-almost dark brown, the last member of our party ordered chicken & ribs with white meat chicken and he was given dark meat. We realized that it was the Saturday night before mothers day and was extremely busy, but the quality of the food was poor.

The restaurant, food, and service were all excellent. We had the BBQ ribs which were perfect and reason enough to drive all the way out there again to taste. We also had the fish tacos...wow! Wonderful! Our waitress Cristy was wonderful and I would highly recommend asking for her by name. The only issue that came up, but was ultimately a non-issue, was with Open Table. We made a reservation using Open Table, but when we arrived, the hostess was unable to locate our reservation. It was not crowded when we arrived, so this was not an issue, and we were seated promptly. If it had been crowded, however, then this could have been a problem. I recommend calling the restaurant direct for a reservation to be sure they get you on the list.

We took a brunch cruise (yes, they have boats) last year and it was one of the finest meals I've ever had. We plan to do it again. The food at this sit-down meal was generous and EVERYTHING is homemade!!!! Delightful. Will return, for sure.
