We celebrated our anniversary at Riva and we were treated wonderfully. Every detail of our dining experience was carefully attended to. We will definately be returning. The food was freshly prepared. The menu selections were creative. The service staff was friendly and efficient.

  • The menu was completely different
    FoodieVIP
    Dined on 6/25/2008
The menu was completely different than was on their website. I sent my medium rare steak back twice, as it came out medium well the first time, then purple on the inside the second. I ended up eating it well done. A pork chop also had to be sent back because it was raw in the middle. The manager was very condescending in her comment of "That's a perfect medium rare but if you want your pork cooked more, that's fine." The service was horrible, and unattentive. Our server was not knowledgable about the menu items, nor the wine list. Unfortunately, I chose to celebrate my birthday here, they even charged me for a slice of birthday cake. Needless to say, I won't be back and I'll be sure to tell all my friends about my awful experience.

Asked about an item no longer on the menu and was told that the chef would make it for me if I wished. The dish was very well prepared and I expected a premium price for a special item. I was very pleasently suprised to find the price very reasonable. The service, as always was excellent. I have been eating at Phil Stesani's restaurants since Fulerton Ave. and will continue to.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2006

Prices were ok. We went for lunch- $20 for a NY strip steak with whipped potatoes and $14 for a Mahi Mahi on a mango salad. The chef made up a shrimp cocktail for me even though it wasn't on the menu. That was cool. However, the shrimp were overcooked and not completely cleaned as one would expect at a restaurant of this caliber. My wife ordered a split of champagne that they apparently had run out of. Hence, the waiter, without our asking, brought over a different champaign split which showed up on our bill. Classy move, huh? The waitstaff has clearly been trained to sell. Our waiter "suggested a sell" about 5-6 times during our visit. Well, atleast he got the extra $12 for the spilt. Bill was $88 for lunch for 2. $15 tip- We won't go back

I would have given food a higher mark, but a variety of the oysters I had tasted very bad...not spoiled, but the flavor was foul. When I brought this to the server's attention, she told the chef and they said they would remove them from the menu. She also took the cost of the appetizer off the bill. The manager came by and apologized. The server was friendly and attentive, even remembering us from a previous visit. There is live entertainment in the bar area, which is good, but way too loud. Even when seated a good distance from the combo, it was some time difficult to converse.

This restaurant employs musicians that are allowed to play instruments and sing at a volume that approximates that heard in the first row of a large concert venue. It si impossible to talk privately (i.e. withour shouting) to your dinner companion(s) and it makes eating at this restaurant very unpleasant. We only go here as a "last resort" when other Naperville and west suburban restaurants are filled. The lack of patronage at this restaurants shows somethig is seriously wrong.

The food and atmosphere were excellent as always. Service started excellently but hit a bit of a dry spell as they dealt with a rush of Mother's Day folks then picked back up. When I've been there before, the service was superb so the temporary laxness was noticeable. The manager apologized and we were given a complementary cocktail, so they were keenly aware of how things were running. Rubbing elbows with Ernie Banks, Cubs legend, was an added treat. Atmosphere is busy with energy but not noisy. This remains one of my favorite restaurants in the area.

Food: 99.9% Of the time, I select a fish entre at Riva's. However, I selected the veal based on the waitress' description that the veal "melts in your mouth." The veal I received was very "fatty" to my surprise and not as tender as I had expected. Next time, I will opt for fish. Ambiance: I always enjoy the live entertainment at Riva's. The music is never too loud and overbearing. Saturday evening was no exception. In fact, I lingered around the bar (I never linger around bar areas) after dinner because of the magnificent music.

I can't choose even one category to describe this restaurant. It was WAY TOOOOOOO LOUD!!! Could not enjoy conversation with our table unless speaking very, very loud. It was exhausting. I couldn't even tell the band was playing. I asked our server if it was always this loud and she gave me a look as if she was offended!!! and replied that the band was loud. I asked if they were even playing at the time and she said yes. After focusing on the sound of the band, I could hear them. The acoustics are horrible for the ability to carry on a conversation, and the ability to have a romantic evening. We were celebrating our 33rd wedding anniversary and we couldn't wait to finish our meal. Food-excellent! Return? probably not.

I love this restaurant. I've had lunch there several times and I've enjoyed every meal I've had. The fish is excellent, some of the best in the far western burbs. Also, the location is ideal if you don't want to deal with downtown Naperville crowds on the weekends for dinner, or if you're meeting people who are traveling from the east along I-88. I've never been disappointed in the service or food, even on busy Saturday nights - something I can't say about many other restaurants around here. I also love the mural of the Chicago skyline - a great touch! One of the top restaurants in the area, and a credit to Opentable.

Food and Staff is top notch, always willing to help and to accomodate the guests' needs. Wines knowledge and recomendation by the manager was impresive. The meat was tender and cooked to perfection to out request. It took a bit more than expected after the appetizer though; the staff keept us informed all the time, which we appreciated. Music was enjoyable, a bit loud (initial though), however not to the point to bother our table conversation, the sets were not long, so there was a lot of quitetness afterward. It never really bother our table. I won't have second thought to return to this restaurant. VERY pleased with the experience. Reservation through Open Table worked flawlesly.

The food was great--although we did have an incident of my husband finding a hair (not ours) in his soup. Our waiter did handle this appropriately, thankfully. He asked if my husband would like a fresh cup of soup and took the soup off of our bill. My other complaint is that a table of 4 very loud and obnoxious people were sat right next to our table after we had been there approximately 30 minutes. The restaurant still had several empty tables at this point and I did not see the need to be sitting so close to these people. They were so loud that we could not hear each other talk, or tune these people out. The hostess needs to be a bit more discriminating in where she seats the guests. I don't see us returning here any time soo
