A word from The House of William & Merry
The House of William and Merry serves contemporary American cuisine prepared from the freshest seasonal ingredients procured from local farms, providing casual fine dining at a reasonable price. Chef-owned by the husband and wife team, Merry Catanuto and William Hoffman, who live on the property, the restaurant is a remodeled farmhouse on the edge of central Hockessin. Dine in a comfortable home atmosphere in one of the two dining rooms, the porch, or the bar. When you arrive, you can see right into the all new, modern kitchen. Full bar service is available including wines by the glass, microbrews on tap, and specialty drinks. Or, take a walk around back to see the herb and vegetable gardens. Tuesday through Saturday we serve lunch and dinner. On Sunday, we serve brunch followed by a prix fix supper in the evening.

The place is friendly and welcoming.Service was very good. We ordered the chopped salad and were a little disappointed. It came with the greens a bit wilted and warm and not much in the way of other ingredients that were listed on the menu. The dressing was suppose to be a blue cheese vinaigrette but instead it was creamy blue cheese. Also we ordered ice tea, it was very week, I suspect because the ice tea was still warm and once the ice was added it became diluted. For dessert we shared the peach doughnut. It was a peach fried in dough and then served with champagne cubes and peach caviar. The peach was hard and not much taste. I'll try again, knowing that they just opened and have to get the kinks out.

Having only been open a short while, the House of William & Merry is a wonderful place to go. There is such attention to the food, changing the menu frequently, based on the best items availble where they buy. The enthusiasm and passion comes through in everything. We have been there 3 times, twice for dinner and once for lunch and have not been disappointed. It's great to have a restaurant of their caliber open up. We wish them the best!

The food at this restaurant is some of the best in the area, if not the absolute best. The friendly wait staff and gracious owner were extremely helpful and allowed one to enjoy a truly scrumptuos, delightful dinner at a very leisurely pace. It is obvious that this restaurant knows what it is doing. One word of advice: park your car yourself, dont allow the nitwits in the parking area to park your car, especially on the upslope of the small mounds surrounding the lot as they probably will return the car squealing with the parking brake on and then swear that they didnt engage the brake!!! Nonetheless, we are sure to return

I'd have to come again to try the dinner menu before I could give a truly reflective review. It was a good place for lunch although in the area where we were seated, it was difficult to determine what ambience teh room was supposed to create. There are wood beams in the ceiling and a mirrored wall (country and 70s?) But the seating was trendy and comfortable and so were the table settings..

Our party of 6 recently enjoyed W&M's 'Sunday Supper'. The menu for their prix fixe special is limited & may change weekly. The offerings were similiar to meals I might make for my family - meat loaf, chicken/dumplings & pasta with clams. Not patriculary exciting, but the quality was good and at $25 which included starter, entree & desert, an excellent bargin. Wine list was pretty standard and fairly priced with no surprises. Our waiter was friendly, helpful and attentive. At the end of the evening, we all agreed W&M deserved a return visit to sample the regular menu. Parking appears to be limited close to enterance, but plenty of spaces a short walk away in nearby lots. If required, call ahead for valet or handicap infomation.

Wow! Probably one of the best little restaurants in the Wilmington area...Hockessin has a real treat here and I suspect it will pull in visitors from just over the state line in PA. We had Sunday supper, prix fixe, 3 courses for $25. The caesar salad with white anchovies (such a rare treat!) was excellent as was the BLT salad with house-made bacon/pork belly. The spaghetti with clams was perfectly executed, clams were cleaned properly (no sand! yay!) and the pasta was meaty, but didn't stick into a lump. The meatloaf was light and juicy, the carrot coins and mashed potatoes were a great side. Dessert was the only disappointment. We ordered key lime pie (our favorite dessert), and although the presentation was superb, it was too sour.

Enthusiasm and excitement greeted us as we entered the newest restaurant in Hockessin. The building makeover is quite charming. The food overall was excellent, especially the salmon with goat cheese "croutons", the duck confit sandwich on brioche and the tuna tartar with watermelon and beets. The entree of House French Toast was a bit too heavy on the sweet which prevented our guest from having appetite enough for dessert! We will return frequently and are looking forward to seeing the how the restaurant matures!

  • Fantastic New Place in Hockessin!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007VIP
    Dined on 7/8/2011
Our area is a wasteland for restaurants - mostly chains - so we were delighted to see this place open. It did not disappoint! The food was spectacular. One of my top 10 meals ever, and that includes NYC, Bermuda, Europe. All 4 of us raved about our meals. The menu changes seasonally (or even weekly as Merry explained to us) so menu items will not always be what you see on the website. The noise level was high but Merry said they are installing soundproofing so that should improve. Service was OK but it's only been open a couple weeks so that too should improve. But the food makes all of these things just nits. We'll be back - frequently. Thanks, William & Merry!

Went for lunch - everything we tried - and we tried many offerings - was outstanding. Would never have know of this spot had I not seen it on Open Table. Although the restaurant has only be open a couple of weeks - looks like there are no kinks to work out - service great, food excellent, atmosphere inviting! We even spoke with one of the owners, Merry, who came around to greet us! Will be back for dinner & brunch!

Still working out the kinks. Has great potential but not sure they will convert. Staff/service needs work. We got a bottle of wine and the server simply poured it, no offer to taste. Some tables in the dining room got "complimentary" taste from the chef, some didn't. My date ordered the Caesar Salad without anchovies-it arrived with. I ordered soup, had to ask for a soup spoon. But my soup was an amazing asparagas bisque with lots of parmesean cheese. The "vanilla" butter served with the bread was excellent.

  • Happy Anniversary!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012

We celebrated our anniversary at William and Merry. He ordered the chopped salad and the presentation was very nice as well as him being satisfied with the choice. For dinner he ordered the cavatelli with "the sauce" which is a family recipe. Enjoyed it but had some real heat to it. My entree was crispy pan seared tilefish. Waitress was knowledgeable about this unfamiliar fish and how it was prepared. We were presented with two very small slices of bread with an Amish butter and some kind of sage/honey added. Very tasty but perhaps more bread would be appropriate. Merry came to our table more than once to make sure we were enjoying the meal. She gave us free desserts because of our anniversary. Favorite - Taste of the Islands drink

The service was the best thing about the experience except we had not finished our entree and the server was asking us about desert. It was very noisy and hard to have a conversation. The food was ok but nothing special although the service size was adequate.

This is a beautiful space owned and operated by talented people; unfortunately, there's little to demonstrate that. We've had the same server on both visits (Brian) and he's trying too hard to affect a hip, urban vibe. He should spend more effort getting food to the table. Apps were served over an hour after we sat down and it took more than two hours to get our of the place -- unacceptable. The food is uneven.

Most creative menu in the area! Some things captivated us on the menu but fell a little short at the table (e.g., an under-ripe peach in a dessert that should have been an absolute home run dish), but others lived up to everything we hoped they would be! Definitely worth a try, as this place's consistency will hit its stride soon enough. You won't want to miss it when it does.

Our meal was AMAZING! We had a four course tasting menu that included a beautiful day boat scallop, a mushroom soup made from local mushrooms that had truffle oil in it, a melon course and last but not least a great piece of veal. We got to meet the owners who are really nice people and have a real passion for cooking. The restaurant is spotless clean and beautiful inside. I cant wait to go back. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for really good food in a comfortable setting. It seems out of place in Delaware, the quality is on par with the best places in Philadelphia or New York.
