A word from Il Vicinato Ristorante
IL Vicinato is immersed in the Heart of Chicago’s Little Italy Neighborhood. This authentic piece of Italy is a hidden gem that has passionately created dishes from old world recipes for 40 years. Appetizers are a great start with such favorites as twice Baked Clams, Red Roasted Peppers, and Grilled Octopus. Our signature dishes include Homemade Veal Ravioli’s, Chicken Vesuvio, and Steak Rinaldo that will make your dining experience an event to remember. If you save room, choose from one of our delectable desserts! We have daily specials; some created and named after customers. Our welcoming atmosphere and family orientated staff will make you a “regular.” Customers come from city and suburbs alike to dine with us. Corporate events welcomed. Dishes are plentiful and accompanied by an extensive wine list and full bar. Great stop before United Center, U.S. Cell and Soldier Field. Il Vincinato is an authentic italian treasure! The food they serve is delicious, rustic old world italian. The meat sauce is so good you will savor every bite! We had the homemade ravioli and it was oh sooo good! Love the pizza bread and zucchini appetizers. They have great wine, make fantastic mixed drinks- awesome place!

We were a party of four. Atmosphere was perfect although there seemed to be a large table of after work people who were a little loud but it was a Friday night. White fish was excellent. My husband loved his swordfish. Grandson also had swordfish and said it was delicious but not the best he ever had. Grandaughter had a filet she said was delicious but thought the mashed potatoes tasted like "instant from a box". I felt the meat sauce on the side of spaghetti was too salty. Grandson thought it was like taco meat. They had bananas foster for dessert and said it was excellent. Our waiter was fabulous and couldn't do enough for us. We will give it another try but there are other restaurants in the neighborhood we'd like to go to firs

Was greeted with a smile and seated right away. Wait staff was very attentive and helpful with any questions we had. We had one person in our party who was a first timer here and now Il Vicinato has a new customer for life as he put it. It is just good food and a great price in a relaxed no pressure atmosphere. After dinner we sat at the bar for an hour or so and just had a great time laughing and talking to the nicest bar host.

It's been years since I'd been to Il Vicinato, but it's just like I remembered. Breaded and fried "just right" calamari, outstanding antipasto salad and a variety of "just right" entrees. My comment mumbled while devouring the salad: "Why don't we come here more often?"

Our timeline was two hours before meeting friends for a Chicago Bull's basketball game at United Center. We arrived at 3:30 pm on a weekday and were the only guests so service was attentive. My Chicken Vesuvio was crisp as were the potatoes but the dish had a bit too much oil & garlic for my taste. Leftovers went home without the sauce. Homemade ravioli with a light marinara was a hit. Many options for dining in Little Italy; this was a solid choice for Italian food before the game. Valet parking in the evening.

We had a wonderful family dinner at Il Vicinato on Saturday. The food was fabulous and they could not have been any more accomodating and gracious to our party, which included six year old twins and their ten year old big brother. We felt very much at home even though it was our first visit and we all left feeling both lucky and full. Outstanding experience overall and very glad that we got away from downtown to the real Chicago on our recent weekend trip. Will probably drive there next time as we had to wait quite a while to get a cab back to our hotel. This was despite very best efforts of staff and no fault of theirs. It is off the beaten path but no doubt worth the trip.

I have been here three times now. Once on a "date" with my grandmother, once with a couple of friends to celebrate my birthday and most recently with 7 of my family members to celebrate a recent wedding. On this latest visit, our party size kept changing and the restaurant was very accommodating. Once the 8 of us settled in, we had a great time. The wine and food were very good. Our server, Ben, was very attentive, and also made us feel very comfortable. We were never rushed. I recommend Il Vicinato for a date, a family party and anything in between. I always love it here. The staff is very friendly and gracious.

It's been over 20 years since my first meal at Il Vicinato. I cannot count the meals I've had there but I know I have never been disappointed. The ravioli (particularly the pasta) is the best I have ever had. The pasta is delicate and flavorful, the sauce meaty & rich. The gnocchi is incredible, as is the veal, shrimp, oh, and the soup. It's a long drive we willingly make as often as possible.

Fantastic neighborhood gem. This is the place you want all yourself and don't want anyone else to know about. The food is fantastic. The service is top notch. You have specials of the day that are worth checking out. Their prices are reasonable. Thought it would be a bit more crowded but that is perfectly fine with the group I went with. We hadn't seen each other in a long while and we never felt rushed to move on. Great place. Will return.

I came down from Wisconsin to meet customers for dinner prior to a Blackhawks game. Il Vicinato was a great choice for dinner. The food was great (the waiter recommended the Ribeye Vesuvius Style - and we were very happy we followed his advice!). After dinner, we made it to the United Center in 20 minutes (despite heavy traffic). I will definitely be back!

Took my gf here for dinner. Food was amazing, service was fantastic. We both had the pasta arrabiata. Mine was spicy (fantastic), hers was mild (also very good.) Our waiter recommended the italian sausage over it, and it was some of the best I've ever tasted. Expansive wine list, and fresh bread to eat while you wait. Great menu, as there is a very wide variety of items to choose from. I couldn't decide between 5-6 items. Small dining area, so on weekends, highly recommend you place a reservation. We got there at 6:30 on a Saturday night, and the small dining room was only half full. By 7:00, it was packed. Only downside, when full, it does get noisy. Give it a try, I'm certain you'll enjoy it. Oh, and only $5 for valet!

Had 9 people in from corporate for the FabTec show at McCormick place. It was a 10-12 minute cab ride; and I wanted to bring them to a place that was in one of the Chicago neighborhoods, so I decided upon il Vicinato's. The seating arrangements were great with a square table so we could all talk and share the food. The food was off the charts! We had Chicken Vesuvio, Steak Rinaldo and White Fish. The appetizers included Shrimp Arancia and Funghi Pamplona which was fantastic. Along with a couple of bottles of wine.... It all worked out great. Ps. The desserts were very good too!

Il Vicinato is a good basic Italian family restaurant. The food options are plenty and the service was very attentive. However, the food was a bit mediocre - heavy Italian and a bit too heavy on the spices in both of the veal filled ravioli and tortellini. None of the four in our group could stomache more than a few bites. Veal Limone was good but was over drenched in sauce, making for a sloppy dining experience. However, a good solid option in an area without too many alternatives.

The food was pretty good. The waitress was nice. The chicken vesuvio was very tasty. My veal limone was really disappointing. It had loads of mushrooms and very little meat. Too lemony too. I have no idea how this restaurant received good reviews from previous diners as our experience was uniformly bad. From the minute I pried a stale piece of bread from the basket, then bit down on an even staler breadstick, I knew it was not going to be stellar. The highly touted twice baked clams were 95% soft breadcrumb mush, the octopus in the appetizer salad woefully overcooked. My lasagne was a hot mess with pasta so overcooked it was indistinguishable from the sauce, and the pork chops ordered by others were similarly poor choices. On top of that, the service was almost nonexistent. Go elsewhere.

If you like fresh made ravioli, a delicate delicate pasta with veal filling, then this is the place. It's in Heart of Chicago, a wonderful spot for traditional Italian restaurants. The Chicken Vesuvio is made the right way, with the bones in the chicken and a blanket of garlic. We had for appetizer the baked stuffed clams and they were among the best I've ever had. Service was great. Wine list not extensive but well priced, ranging from low end to higher end, such as Silver Oak and Chianti classico reservas.
