As the name suggests, this is mainly a wine bar and the eatery is an after thought. The food was OK but not as good as expected. If you enjoy wine, however, this is the place to go.

  • What really sets Domaine Hudson
    OpenTable Diner Since 2005
    Dined on 4/29/2008
What really sets Domaine Hudson apart is their wine list and the fact that you can sample it in different size glasses (1.5 oz, 3 oz, 5 oz). A 5 oz. glass is a full portion. The 1.5 oz. option allows you to taste 6 wines without consuming more than two full glasses. I had two outstanding whites with my smoked trout appetizer and two reds, (one interesting, the other truly wonderful) with my lamb entree. The cheese plate option (delicious!) for dessert is a bit unusual for American dining, most generally associated with very upscale restaurants (read "Ritz-Carlton territory"). Domaine Hudson is definitely upscale, but with the special Wilmington Restaurant Week menu, dinner for two including all the wine was only $120 (before gratuity).

We were very happy with out meals. The variety is limited. However, what they do have was all excellent. There were not alternatives for the younger diner (ages 10, 14). Food was excellent and cheeses and wines exceptional. Waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We will go again and again (but without the kids).

The tasting wine list is great, as is the cheese course where you can pick 3 or 5 cheeses from a list of 10 and the wines to pair with them as well. Because the menu is somewhat limited, we'll only go every 3-4 months or so. Foodies and wine lovers will love this place!

The food was very good however they were out of a couple of dishes- one that we would have ordered and the other which we did get although was one of the last of that dish. This was a little disappointing and surprising as we were there at 8:30 which I thought a little early to be running out of dishes. As for our waiter- John- he was fabulous- great at recommending wine with our meal and overall knowledge. The wine selection was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We will definitely return.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2009

I will start this commentary with "we will try your restaurant again" We loved the different size pours - even though our waiter was unable to advise us appropriately about the wines - it was evident he was not as well versed as he or we would have liked - in fact, when I had him ask the chef to pair my Sea Bass entree with my wine - it was the best glass all night - and my waiter was relieved. We love the Chesse selections We loved the brussel sprouts The Flat Iron steak was not tender but the sauce was great The desserts were lack luster The noise was tooo much - especially considering the atmosphere that the decor and the wait staff was trying to achieve Overall, good to great. More training for waiters ie: wines - less noise

This was my second visit to Domaine Hudson and first luncheon experience. Again, the restaurant delivers great food, wine, service and ambience; also, as is crictical at lunchtime (as we must all return to work), the service was speedy while still being very attentive. The restaurant is still a little short on entree offerings (a minor criticism in my previous review about the dinner menu), but the concept is fantastic and very well-suited to lunch and dinner both.

Portions were just right for us (were mid-sixties, retired). The food was excellent and the service was appropriately attentive and well-paced. This is very food/wine oriented eatery and the flexiblity to try small glasses of different wines at anytime (before, during and after a meal) and to subsequently order either by the glass, the bottle or none at all made this choice a perfect special occasion dinner for us. This was our initial experience with Domaine Hudson and it was mid-week and it was not 'packed'. The foregoing comments were made in view of that circumstance.

Wine list is outstanding, but some of the pairing suggestions were odd (Cab Sauv with the Sea Bass didn't really work). We found the food to range from poor to very good. The She-crab soup had a metallic taste, but the Veal Mignon was very good. Overall, a nice experience, but a bit over-priced.

I have been to this restaurant for 4 dinners and a dozen lunches this year so far and the food is creatively prepared, well-presented, and flawlessly executed. Portions are ideal and the staff are consistent and very helpful in food choice and wine-pairings, with many fine wines available in 3 different glass sizes. I have taken foodies and oenophiles from out-of-town who are also delighted by this restaurant as well. The setting is relaxing, quiet, friendly and not pretentious. This restaurant is a tp choice in the Philadelphia-Wilmington region.

My dinner experience with 2 friends was superior. The service is outstanding and the wine list is large with a unique option to get small size tastings of wine which makes it worthwhile for trying more than 1 variety. The food was also excellent. Our only feedback was about dessert. We ordered 2, the pumpkin cake was amazing but the apple tart was unevenly heated so it was not as enjoyable. Our waiter was extremely gracious is accepting our feedback and quickly offered to refund us for that 1 "glitch". Overall an excellent dinner and will definitely recommend and come back for more. Our dining experience was remarkable. The concentration on fine wines by the glass and fine cheeses, makes Domaine Hudson a unique place to nosh. As for the small and large plates and entrees, I feel it's a great concept and that at this point the restaurant does the few things it does extremely well, but I suspect the restaurant can expand its menu without sacrificing its unique character. Perhaps the best part of the evening, however, was the outstanding service provided by our server, John, who was extremely knowledgeable about everything on both the menu and wine list. He was also very friendly and attentive and lifted the experience to a very high level; kudos to him.
