We ate at Charly's in Orlando before. We have yet to find a steakhouse which meets its standards. Don't get me wrong this was pretty good. Just not as good as Charly's.

They are very accommodating and friendly. Their serving staff is confident and knowledgeable. They even kept us posted on the KU basketball game which was playing in the bar area. My only negative was that the filet I ordered was not juicy enough to be Medium Rare, so I may have to emphasize 'on the rare side'. Other than that everything was top notch as always.

Great food with a great offering of specials. Only negative was that I wanted to have a larger party. We were celebrating two birthdays and I would have liked to have a table for 6 but they said they could not accomodate more than 4 and could only give us 6:30 reservations. I even called to verify this. The place was half empty the whole evening and we were there for at least an hour or longer. I also though my martini was not the usual. I alway look forward to smoked olives which I questioned the waiter about as last time we were there they were out. He assured me that they had them, but my drink didn't. I didn't complain as the waiter was good. Food was great, especially for a holiday evening

J Gilbert's is one of our very favorite restaurants! the food is always excellent and the atmosphere makes it a a great romantic getaway for a night out. The service here has always been wonderful we have never had poor service and they are always the perfect blend between highly attentive and friendly and sociable. They put you very much at ease and are always pleasant and visit with the diners while still seeing that you never lack anything during your meal. One of the best places in KC in our opinion!

We went for Easter Brunch and found this to be enjoyable. We had enough food considering it was only 3 course. The service was good, a little slow as it got busier as our meal went on. The food was very nicely presented and tasted great. Even our 13 year old son enjoyed his food. Overall I would recommend this restaurant and would return.

I was a little disappointed with the menu. I had called J Gilbert's before making my reservation to inquire about the menu for Easter Sunday and was told that there would be a special Easter menu along with the regular menu. Once seated we were informed that the only menu that day was the Easter menu. It was good but I was looking forward to Crab cakes. The people who were seated next to us (after we had ordered) made more of an issue about the menu and were offered an appetizer. Just a little disappointing, the staff should have their info straight.

Having recently been to a steak house, we both ordered seafood and were not disappointed. The food was very good and the service was great. We did end up in a two person booth that seemed unusually small for us being of average size. Folks on the larger size would not be comfortable in that arrangement. The seat was in a high traffic area which was not ideal for the special occasion we celebrating.

Prior two visits within the last four months were 5 star experiences. You could not ask for anything more from a restaurant in terms of food, service and atmosphere. The visit on Saturday the 15th was the exact opposite. We came with a couple that had not previously dined at Gilbert's and our this was not a good first impression for them. In essence the waitress really couldn't be bothered and her main goal from the start seemed to be to get us out of the restaurant. Once seated it was 10 minutes before we saw her and she stopped at our table and then veered off to another table w/o a word. Taking the orders was fairly perfunctory like ordering a value meal. The rest of the meal was just as hurried. The KC Strip was only ok this time

My spouse says she doesn't want to eat at any other place when we are in KC. She usually won't eat steak when dining out, but she tried it this time and ate the whole thing! Our server Jill was great and fun. We tried M&S Grill the next night and it didn't make the grade.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 5/12/2007
    J. Gilbert's has done a nose-dive in the last few years. You used to be able to count on excellent service and food, but not anymore. Tip for J. Gilbert's... When your dining room is 90% open, you offend people by sitting them in the bar area. Did you ever think patrons are coming there to dine and NOT sit in a beer joint scene? Some of the servers are offensive and sarcastic, and they do over-power their quality servers they have left. Three times in a row their service, food, or both was horrible, and definitely not worth the $100 tab, which includes my over 20% tip rule. And don't make a reservation through here, because they will make sure to ruin your evening. Never again!
