A word from Via Tribunali Capitol Hill
We opened our first pizzeria in 2004 in the burgeoning Capitol Hill neighborhood. For months before we opened curious onlookers poked their heads in the former auto body shop, and outlandish rumors spread. One person saw a team of masons reportedly flown in from Naples to build a gargantuan wood-fired oven, someone heard that the bricks also came from Naples rich with Vesuvian ash, a reporter ran a story about a taxi driver leading our owner down a dark Neaopolitan street to meet a talented Pizzaiolo who was then whisked to an airport….

As it turns out almost all of the tall tales are true – on opening night people lined up for the authentic Neaopolitan pizza and since then our ovens have only gotten busier. Via Tribunali has been called "more authentic than the pizzerias of Naples," and even though that is a flattering exaggeration it is fair to say that our pizzerias have grown out of an almost unnatural passion for the food & wine of Southern Italy.

I really like the pizza at Via Tribunali. We had a group of 5 and started with appetizers, the bruschetta was excellent, we had the tomato and ricotta, as well as the mushroom. Mozzarella with prosciutto was also good, and the house salad is delicious. The Via Tribunali special pizza was my least favorite (but still good), while the simple sausage with onion was everybody's favorite. It was my son's birthday, and they brought bhim the dessert pizza with nutella. A big hit with the teenagers. Good food, good service.

I really enjoy this resturant. There is one in Capitol Hill and one in Queen Anne. I have been to both locations. The food and drinks are FANTASSTIC! The atmosphere is very cool but it is pretty dark. Sometimes I find myself using the candle or my phone to see the menu. The wine menu is spectacular and all from Italy. For cocktails, I prefer the Francesca. So frefeshing. When I crave pizza, I definitely come here because everything is so fresh and I feel so healthy and clean when I eat here. I can't wait to go back!

Seeking a re-creation of a fabulous "Pizza in Paris", my suitor (also appreciated as my favorite Foodie) suggested this establishment. The evening (even without the Eiffel tower) was phenominal! Great energy, adequate lighting, yet private feel. The wait staff was gently suggestive, but not over-pressured in their recommendations which included a lovely flat bread and amazing bruschetta as an appetizer. I must say we would not have picked this out of a lineup but OMG! The Chianti, light, good finish, paired well. Our pizza selection included a classic salami (to allow comparison with other foodie pie!)--topped with proscuitto...oooh la la. Crisp/soft charred crust, light sauce (not too sweet), harmonized cheese blend with foldability!

Great experience and we kept changing the # in our party (parents weekend at SU and we suddenly had more, then less, than what we started with). The staff was so accomodating. Our waiter was very informed and his Italian was spot on (I speak a little so I know). My only complaint is that our nearly 50 yr old eyes could not see the menu. Our waiter however helped me use my "flashlight" app so I could read the menu. Great experience. We'll be back for sure.

  • Via Tribunali is the best
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 5/2/2012
Via Tribunali is the best European style pizza in Seattle. The dough is simultaneously tender and crisp with the right amount of salt. The sauce is subtle, obviously cooked for a very long time to reduce the acidity. There is just the right amount of real cheese. Not the processed 1/4 inch layer you find on so many in Seattle. The toppings add a nice pop without overwhelming the product. Lasagna is just ok. Wine is pricey for the small pours.

The food was very low quality, regarding what I had expected. The restaurant got very good reviews when it opened, some years ago, and this was my first visit. I expected a typical Napolese pizza, and this was not what I got. My dining mates had the lasagna and it was also very bland. In spite of our opinion, the place was full and everyone else seemed to be enjoying the food.

So we were going to take the teenagers to the local chain pizza place (also a good option). Having "google searched" the best pizza in Seattle, I decided to change the plans. They were all yelling at me, not a happy group. However, they absolutely loved, loved, loved Via Tribunali! Ironically they were all thanking me and told me they would come back. For teenagers this is not heard of. We will definitely go back. i would highly recommend this restaurant!

My three friends and I had a simple dinner there on a Thursday evening. One friend and I split their special pizza and their ensalada della casa. Together they were enough for a moderate eater. Unfortunately, I'm NOT a moderate eater! LOL. So we had to try their Nutella calzone for dessert. It was delicious. Sugar wrapped in carbs and baked. :-)

The variety of choices in pizza was outstanding. Don't feel limited to the menu choices as you may request something that may not be there, though again the variety is grand. Great list of Italian wines to accompany the meal. The place had the feel of an Italian bistro that I went to when in Italy.

I stopped by for dinner on a Tuesday. Service was good, and I ordered an uncomplicated pizza. After quite a while, it arrived limp and at room temperature. The taste was okay (nothing exceptional), and since it had taken so long to get the pizza in the first place, I just ate it, rather than sending it back. It's not like they were real busy, either. This was my only visit, so maybe it was an off night. But still!
