  • The deer chops and the tenderloin
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 5/29/2008
The deer chops and the tenderloin were outstanding. The salad was OK. The appetizers were great but a little too pricey. There were 3 of us. We had 3 cocktails and 3 appetizers, to start, which included one piece of each appetizer. That was $80.00 to start. The entrees were well priced for the quality of the dish. I'm not all about price, but it seemed a little too much. The halibut was excellent too. Service was very good. Good recommendations from the menu. I would go back.

Lonesome Dove has without a doubt the most interesting and a diverse menu of any restaurant. The wine menu is exceptional with great diversity that allows for any taste and/or budget. Tim Love has also gone beyond just the culinary aspects and created a charming atmosphere that fits Ft. Worth perfectly blending old and modern into something that is comfortable, elegant and absolutely fantastic. I can definitely understand why Chef Love has taken this fine concept to NYC. I am sure it will be well received.

As with my wife and I's previous experience at Lonesome Dove, this dinner was no different. It was our 6th wedding anniversary and we had a excpetional foodie night and very romantic, with a nice "awwwww" finish. The clean flavors and excellent presentation are only matched by the knowledgeable staff. Ryan, our waiter, finished off a romantic dinner with a nice touch. A small bottle of sparkling wine, literally, as the bottle had a sparkler attached to it. It made for a great evening! Thanks for having such a wonderful down to earth fine dining restaurant. We will be back soon!

It was our anniversary so we ordered champagne. It was served to us at almost room temperature! The waiter took it back but told us the champagne was kept in the wine cooler rather than a cold refrigerator. He offered to bring a champagne bucket with ice to chill it down, but we really didn't have time for the chilling process to take place since we had theatre tickets. I ordered the halibut and crawfish and it had a nasty odor so I didn't eat all of it. For the amount of money we paid, we really expected better food. Our server was great and the restaurant is very pleasant but food and champagne needed work!

Unique and outstanding food. Our server was very patient and informative without being intrusive. The facility is not very large, but extremely intersting and comfortable. We were seated a few feet from the door and the intermittent bright light from the pre-sunset sunlight whenever the door was opened was annoying. It was 8:00PM when we were seated so I would imagine this would be a real drawback for early diners.

The food is very upscale but they offer some things that would be considered unusual (kangaroo, rattlesnake/rabbit sausage). A little pricy so I would probably only go for special occasions but I would definitely go back and would recommend to anyone who is a little adventurous.

Unusual & unexpected find in the Fort Worth Stockyards. If you're looking for a restaurant that mixes fine dining and western influences, this is your place. Best steak I've had in the DFW area. Ask your waiter to create an appetizer sampler platter - you should try at leat two of the chef's unusual offerings. The feature was kangaroo nachos this time; you won't find that at Taco Bueno.

The waiter suggested a combination of appetizers, a good idea. Our entres were fantastic. I had the surf and turf (buffalo and langostein) and the meat was like butter. The best ever. My husband had the lamb, which was terrific, but he was most taken with the gnocci with goat cheese. We shared the chile chocolate cake (almost molten). It was superb. Service was just the right mix of friendly/professional. The only sour note: When we pickep up the car and paid with a 20, the valet asked if we needed change. The cost for valet parking is 5.00. My husband said yes and the young man said rudely, "Well, most people tip that." He expected a 15.00 tip? We will probably write to the restaurant about this.

Everything was great - especially the food. The cucumber & jap margs will be replicated at the house and the chocolate/chili dessert was incredible. The only (and I mean ONLY) dissapoint was having our nice bottle of white wine brought to the table without a wine cooler. By the time we saw our waiter again - the wine level was past the point of mattering...probably because we felt rushed to drink it before it reached room temp. We actually enjoy letting our whites get a little "Less Cool" - which usually translates to more flavor in each drink....but this bottle was brought to us at a perfect temp and needed some help maintaining it. Just FYI. Thanks Mark and Amber Biggers

What a fantastic place! I had been there only once before for lunch, so our dinner experience was just as enjoyable. Our waitress was extremely efficient and forthright with recommendations that did not disappoint. I enjoy unique foods/flavors and this place definetly offers that. I also do not pay too much attention to the prices at places of this quality and uniqueness. However, my only surprise after receiving the bill was the cost of an appetizer sampler, of which we selected 4 different items, 2 of each. Although this was suggested as an option and not specifically stated on the menu, I was not expecting a doubleing of the cost of each single appetizer, which totaled $43.00. The experience was memorable none the less.

We went to Lonesome Dove for my birthday. I had the red deer chops with "mac and cheese", my husband had the signature steak and my granddaughter had the halibut. All very good. We ordered the dayboat scallops with sauteed wild boar and the lobster hushpuppies. The scallops were wonderful the hushpuppies were ok. Always an interesting menu. The waiter was very helpful in recommending menu items and the glass of wine I had with the deer chops. We ordered the fried spinach as a side dish. This is different and very good. We have also been to Lonesome Dove in the past for lunch which we enjoy very much. We had 6 pm reservations so it was not too noisy. It is a small dining room and can get noisy as the evening wears on.

I love foie gras and I like tacos, but this appetizer had too much going on. The flavor and richness of the foie gras was masked by all the other ingredients and it was messy to eat. Same goes with the crab appetizer. I could not taste the crab, and that is a shame. The lobster wontons were better. I could really taste the lobster. The soup was very good. The red deer chops were fantastic with a wonderful reduction and morels. The orzo and cheese was a nice twist on the standard mac and cheese. The wine list was very good and our server, Emily, was very friendly and attentive. The kitchen was on thier game with the courses arriving warm and on time.
