Recently lost liquor license.. they called the day of and suggested we bring our own wine and beer .... so we brought our own wine which worked out fine, but clearly the restaurant is in trouble. The waiter told us this is the 5th time they have had to take the alcohol off the property in the past several months. The food was fair, service less than what one would expect for the prices they charge. The details of a fine dining experience were clearly missing.

  • Could not serve Wine - Why even go?

Visited Celestrial on Friday of memorial day weekend. We decided to visit the restaurant for the first time based on reviews and the wine list that is touted around town. Once we arrived we were informed that the restaurant has had liquor license problems and could not serve any alcohol. Based on this disappoinment it was hard to get past eating an nice meal with out a good glass of wine. I ordered a filet and it was over cooked and very dry. My wife had the sea bass and she said it was excellent. Overall I doubt we will revisit the celestrial even though the very is amazing, the view is not worth the meal based on our visit.

Everyone loved the food items they selected. Dad and I had one of the specials, broiled sea scallops with mushroom risotto, and Mom had the Lobster and Shrimp Risotto. We also had the Lobster Bisque which was very good (would have put it over the top if it had some chunks of lobster in it, but I still liked it without), and a glass of the Riesling. Our server was great and the view was terrific. I'd definitely go back.

Dramatic view of city. Steak flavorful but a bit overdone (ordered rare). Server was trying to up-sell every item for every course at all tables within hearing, which became mildly offensive.

Spectacular food, service, ambiance & view... We chose Cincinnati's Celestial restaurant as an alternative to our high school proms - and can't imagine a better choice! The Maitre' D /Manager, Christof, was very attentive and made every effort to insure we felt welcome and provided for. We danced after dinner to some excellent live jazz which topped off this outstanding Saturday evening event for us.

First time visitor. Was a little disappointed not to have a table by a window when one was empty. It was 25 minutes before our order was taken, even though a table seated after us had their order taken and bread served before he took ours. Service then improved. Mashed potatoes at room temp. Still would consider another try.

Hello. The reason for the "fair" ratings above is that when we came there on May 13th 2011 for my moms birthday, we had 2 disappointments. One was the noise level. Unfortunatly the band was warming up right during our dinner! It was quite loud during our dinner. The other issue was my moms steak. She always orders (very well done, no pink and tell the chef he can filet it to cook it, if needed to get done correctly". When her steak did come and she cut into it, it was still very pink and red juices were present. I will say that when it came back out, it was correct. Just a shame it came incorrectly to begin with. We have been there several times in our travels and I always love to come to eat there. Thought you should know.

  • Decling Restaurant, Great View
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 5/9/2011
The view of Cincinnati is awesome after a steep drive up a long hill. The restaurant was nearly empty and the service was very slow, especially given the lack of other diners. The drinks were delivered and then some tasty soft pretzel sticks, but only 8 for our table of 10. When I asked for more, I was surprised to open the new basket to find more rolls, but chopped into little pieces! Not sure if they thought we were pigs or their margins are that tight... This was followed by salads and soups -- the lobster bisque (2 of us ordered) had 0 pieces of lump crab, salads were okay. Dinners got good reviews from everyone; no one had dessert. Looks to me like a restaurant on the decline, I would pass unless there is a change in management.

Wine list was on the pricey side, perhaps on purpose. Service seemed a little off, maybe becuase it was a Tuesday night. Still give a "worth it" rating. Although if the service had been better, it would have gotten a "don't miss" rating. Food and atmosphere are outstanding.

We've never been so disappointed in a restaurant. After reading the hype about "Diamonds and Stars" we were expecting something special. Two of us ordered lobster and they were over-cooked and poorly presented. Presentation of the other meals in the group was also poor. Service was just "fair". While they did bring other food when we returned the lobsters, the attitude was condescending at best. Positives - the view was nice.

Our first visit to The Celestial since they changed their format to a steakhouse.. We were somewhat disappointed at the quality of the beef cuts (Filet mignon and prime rib)when compared to another local upscale steakhouse. Otherwise, The Celestial is a wonderful setting for a special occasion..

I went to the Celestial with my mom for an early Mother's Day treat. The restaurant itself is lovely and the view is awesome. The wine list is HUGE but I was disappointed in their limited selection of "by the glass" wines. The lobster bisque was creamy, rich and delightful (mom's exact words). I ordered the roasted beet salad and the beets were still mostly raw and not as sweet as a roasted beet should be. We then got the main course: filet and broccolini. The broccolini was cooked perfectly with butter and garlic. The steak was charred black on the outside (though it was "medium" in the middle) but I found myself scraping black char off the outside. However, the rich, wonderful vanilla cheesecake was divine and totally worth the trip.

Overall, the restaurant was great. We had a fun time. Was not very happy with the location of the table. We seemed to be out of the main restaurant and put away from the window. I had requested to be by the window. Reservations were made a week ahead of time. The service was aweful in the bar after dinner. We had to go to the bar and wait to get someones attention to get a drink.

Nice Place, great view, good staff, hardly anyone there on Sunday night. Wedding Party going on one floor down, but not obtrusive. Food on the other hand was not good. Steaks to sea food, no one was excited. Wine was good. Desserts were no descript. Probably not going back unless another out of town guest wants to see the city. I was with a world famous business man from the US Virgin Isles, and was not happy that the dinner wasn't good.

My husband & I went to the Celestial for our first wedding anniversary. The view was spectacular & we enjoyed the live jazz in the lounge after dinner. The service was ok, but nothing special. The wine list was impressive, but drinks were over-priced. We both ordered the chef's daily specials. My husband's dinner was beautiful - red pepper soup to start, then perfectly grilled filet mignon & stuffed lobster. However, my meal left much to be desired. What was described as a salmon fillet served over a bed of asparagus topped with lump crab meat & bernaise sauce was an at best 4oz overcooked piece of salmon with about a tbsp of crab over 8 sprigs of asparagus. I would not want to take another chance at wasting $30 on a meal here.

While our party enjoyed the food, the temperature in the restaurant was too cold. The music (recorded) was too loud but one mention to Angelo and he turned it down. The meals were adequate and good, served in a timely manner. However, charging extra for anchovies on a Caesar is a bit excessive. A restaurant in the caliber of The Celestial should not have to stoop so low for a garnish you would expect to be on a Caesar. The coffee was delicious as was the desserts we had. Overall we may come back. However, the combo in the bar was excellent and we'll definitely come have a drink and a dance or two in the near future.

The Celestial Steakhouse is one of our favorites. Always, great food, excellent service and really the 'BEST view" in all of Cincinnati. You always feel welcomed and they truly cater to your every need. It is still one of the few restaurants that allow you to relax and enjoy your meal with your party. They are in no hurry of pushing you out to turn your table around for another customer. If you have never tried the Celestial, you do not know what you are missing. Please take the time to enjoy this remarkable experience. This would be perfect to bring out of town friends or relatives to truly showcase the city and surrounding countryside!

I went to Celestial on a rainy Monday night. The place was empty due to the day and weather, so it was very quiet. I had the Lobster Bisque, 12oz Filet, and Steak fries with blue cheese Fondue. Everything was excellent and cooked perfectly. The bisque was just right. Very creamy. The steak was cooked perfectly with a nice char and medium center. Even the steak fires were great. Nice wedges done very crispy with a blue cheese dip. More than I could eat, but it was hard to stop. I was looking for a steak when I picked Celestial, but next time I will explore some other items. The special that night was a grouper dish that I wish I could have tried as well. This seems like a place where you can't go wrong no matter what you order. Benissimo!
