It was our 2nd year anniversary and i wanted to do something different for my wife. So I heard about SAX through some friends and thought it would be the perfect time to go. From the moment the door staff opened the front doors for us we were floored! This place is amazing. The Decor is straight out of Moulin Rogue, big booths, big mirrors, big chandeliers, big paintings...you get the idea. Not to mention the huge performance stage enclosed in tinted glass above the main bar. That was absolutely CRAZY!!! The service was excellant, the food though a little pricey, was tastefully done, and the drinks were out of this world. I had a liquid nitrogen vodka martini infused with cinnamon. Unbelievable. SAX is truly an incredible experience.

Had heard a lot about the restaurant and entertainment. Was really looking forward to it. Arranged a group of my girlfriends for a girls' nite out. The space is quite ornate and beautiful. The dancing was definitely interesting & unique for DC. However, I was disappointed in the food. The chef was trying new menu items. I had one and after a few bites told the waitress that I had not enjoyed the item. They conveyed this to the chef and removed my plate. No adjustment was made in my bill. On top of expensive food prices the drink prices are outrageous with bottles of wine going up to $1500. I don't mind spending money for a great meal - this wasn't it. And frankly, now that I've seen the show I have no real interest in seeing it again.

Our first time at Sax: The food and service were amazing, but the Tuesday night we were there the place was kinda dead. The place was clearly designed for energetic decadence, so I expect a late dinner on a Friday or Saturday would be more entertaining. I was also a little disappointed in the stage setup; because the dancers are enclosed in a glass box there's no audience engagement — it's more like a giant TV turns on for a bit every 15 minutes. Very expensive - our tab was around $175 per person.

SAX is a very exciting and visually interesting addition to the downtown/Penn Quarter restaurant scene. The modern dance show is excellent, a cultural cross between NYC, New Orleans and Paris with a little Lady Gaga thrown in. The food was good but once again the entrees were oversalted. I was unable to finish my scallop and sweetbread entree because it was too heavily salted. Tell your server to ask the kitchen to hold the salt. Highly recommend Burlesque Monday Prix Fixe dinner menu, three courses for $39.

Great place for an expensive girls night out. Drinks were interesting and tasty but not really worth $15/pop. The food is a decent deal during restaurant week, which they extended through mid-Sept but would be too overpriced normally. I didn't really enjoy the corn soup but the gnocci and peanut pave were good. Great atmosphere, very glitzy-Versailles-like French--would make for a good bachelorette location. Short shows every 15 min--some were entertaining, others not as much. Overall a good night and fun to experience but I wouldn't go running back.

Seemed like a hip spot for the under 30 crowd, but as a group of over the hill adults, we enjoyed it! Great enertainment and outstanding service, they aimed to please us even after we messed up our reservations. I would go again if the opportunity presented itself. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a different dining venue and cool spot to enjoy music and vibrant atmosphere. Be warned, the prices are not for those who are on a budget.

The scene is pretty cool- with a toned-down version of the French burlesque shows of yesteryear (and perhaps still offered at the Mulin Rouge in Paris). A glass window above the bar/restraurant area provides entertaining little shows every 20 mts or so (no nudity though). However, the food was pretty bland an non-exciting. I am glad we tried it during restaurant week cause I would hate to pay their high prices for this food. The house fondue -$25 on its own - was small (as all dishes are there) and pretty boring. The white cauliflour appetizer was tasteless and bland, and the tuna was overooked and pretty boring as well. We were so hungry that we ordered bread (xtra charge) and this too was bland. Save the $ and skip this place.

This place is a trip. Opulent. Extravagant. Lavish. Spectacle. Not words typically associated with DC dining. The food was good, but not great. And the prices are very high because it's clear you're not paying just for the food, but also for the atmosphere. It's clear they put a lot of work into the decor, and the result is stunning. Also, the dancers are quite good and each set is unique and different. Some might find it all a bit creepy, however. I don't know that I'd recommend SAX as just a restaurant, but as a "dining experience", it is certainly worth checking out because there's nothing else like it in DC.

I went here for Restaurant Week and it was very disappointing. The food was luke-warm and clearly was not the same quality that they regularly serve. I know that it was the Restaurant Week menu, but the idea is to showcase your restaurant so that I come back. The restaurant had all the window-dressing to suggest an amazing experience, but once the curtain was pulled, it was an underwhleming experience at best. AND they actually had price additions for certain items on the Restaurant Week menu. I think that defeats the purpose of the event. In addition, the shows were lackluster (except for one). I give this restaurant about 9 more months. It is the perfect example of overpromising and underdelivering.

This was truly an amazing dining experience. The food was delish and the service impeccable. The environment is unline any other restaurant in DC and the show, well, you have to see it to believe it. While this is not an experience for everyone (the kids would not be a good idea here) it a place that anyone who enjoys great food and being immersed in a total sensory environment. One small note; if you find it a bit hard to read the menu don't be shy to borrow a book light...they have plenty.

They say it's cabaret, but these dancers are a straight up professional company. Very entertaining. The costumes and choreography are fascinatingly unique. You're paying for the show, in my opinion. The food is OK, but way overpriced, as are their drinks. The drinks are outstanding, however, but not worth $20 bucks a pop. My tuna was acceptable. My friend's steak was ok, but her potatoes undercooked. Dessert of lemon tart and the chocolate snickers bar-like concoction were the highlight. Appetizers were decent. I had the cauliflower with sardines and crisps- not as exotic as I was hoping. I would go back, not for the food, but maybe to bring out of town guests for a couple of drinks and a good show.

Could have been more burlesque and less $1 store costumes. Food was okay, table service was slightly amateur, but decent- I'm a critical critic as I am also a server at a fine dining restaurant. Overall, hits under the mark and was hoping for more sensuality, less hooter's with corsets- or at least go complete camp and over the top.

Great food (beet gnocchi, cold corn soup, heirloom tomato salad, specialty cocktails and sparkling wine), but the service was just okay. when we weren't quite ready to order, the waitress said she would return in a few minutes and didn't come back for about 20 minutes. The food was good but not at the level of some of the super famous restaurants of DC , it was on a salty side , kind of over powering the flavors. And the dessert was delicious but way too sweet , I could handle one bite and I don't like to pass on a good dessert but this was plenty after one bite.

Sax kept me in bewilderment from the moment I step in through the doors. The decor is outrageous nouveau french luxury, along the lines of what you would imagine at Versailles. The novelty of this place is quite overwhelming and I expect that it will be packed at word spreads of it. The sweet heat was well worth the near $20 price, while other specialty cocktails were not. It was odd that you could not carry your bar tab to the table. The food for the restaurant week prix fixe was good and good value. The cauliflower, beef (well worth coming back for), and peanut pave (a deconstructed snickers bar) were outstanding. Overall I highly recommend and plan on returning.

I think Sax has potential but it has a seedy air despite the obvious money put into designing the place. The "cabaret" dancers were fairly raunchy, especially toward the end of the night. The house/techno music playing overhead was also annoying. It's a restaurant not a teenage night club. Lastly, as we were dining, the elevator door on the 1st floor opened to reveal a large trash bin and mop inside, illuminated by the bright fluorescent light inside the elevator. Details people mind and revamp the details and the place stands a chance.

A very interesting and unusual experience. The atmosphere and decor are great and the food was excellent and well prepared. But the entertainment on the platform above the bar was terrific in an "Eyes Wide Shut" kind of way. The themes were intriguing, the costumes colorful and the dancing exceptional. And every 15min a new segment. The only suggestion I can make is to find a way for the entertainers to have a little more interaction with the customers. Perhaps between sets.
