The Farm and Fisherman is a 30-seat white tablecloth BYOB featuring regional produce, meat and fish prepared by owner and Executive Chef Joshua Lawler, a former chef de cuisine at the quintessential farm-to-table restaurant Blue Hill at Stone Barns. At The Farm and Fisherman, Chef Lawler serves what he calls "snapshots of the seasons here in the Delaware Valley," incorporating interesting and unusual ingredients produced by area farmers.

This place has the potential to be a great dining destination if not for the intrusive noise level of the dining room. Having to shout at your dining partner sitting two feet across from you is no way to savor the delicious food this kitchen puts out.

A welcomed new BYOB in Philly. Craig Leban said it all - the food is very well prepared, with wonderful flavors, textures and presentations. The pacing was leisurely and service helpful. The Farm egg dish might have been the very best with the peach pastry dessert a very close second. Excellent wine glasses made this a very inviting BYOB. Brad Lidge and his wife had dinner two tables over and only one person asked for a picture, which to me was the sign of a cool restaurant.

We love this restaurant! It was my 2nd visit. The carrot soup was complex and perfect with hints of fresh cucumber, buttermilk and mint. The stuffed quail had an intense flavor from the reduction - it was wonderful. The chicken was moist and flavorful. We will return!

Good Lord ... this place is wonderful. The freshness of the ingredients really shines through. The service was attentive but not smothering. My husband and I went there for my birthday and it was wonderful (though we went elsewhere for dessert since rumor has it that their dessert offerings are quite disappointing). I will definitely go back!

Perfect, perfect, perfect! That says it all. We felt truly welcome; the food was beyond wonderful; 2 days later, I am still thinking about the whole experience and eagerly anticipating a return. Each course was not only delicious but also was presented beautifully (without being impossible to deconstruct!). And it was possible to taste and appreciate each ingredient--in other words, simplicity, not unnecessary complexity, was key. Congratulations to Josh and Colleen, and welcome (back) to Philadelphia!

Excellent food with a creative, fresh take on what's in season. We had Poached Jennings Farm Egg (the egg mixes with the vegetables to create a delicious, light soup-like dish highlighted by a touch of hazelnuts) and Cape May Scallops with Beets which was yummy. The chef’s sense of humor has a touch of the macabre: Baby Deer Tongue salad has nothing to do with Bambi; deer's tongue is a salad green! And the only blood in Bloody Beet Steak comes from the roasted beet which has been compressed and seared (as in a steak) but it's all vegetable! The woman at the next table freaked out at the menu and stormed out of the place. Don't make the same mistake; the food, service and ambiance are great and definitely worth a try!

  • Exactly "what" am I eating?

I think this place has a lot of promise- very imaginative although limited menu. The very unusual names for the ingredients seem a bit pretentious- "baby deer tongue" is just still a salad. The first and second choice menu items were better than the main item picks. Four out of four ordered the steak entree and only one , mine, was overcooked. The room is small and extremely loud on a busy Sat. night. I think we would try it again although it is expensive. Very limited dessert choices. I imagine that the menu will change since the emphasis is on "farm fresh and seasonal" ingredients. Interestingly, there was a very strong "fish" odor when we came into the restaurant but the food tasted fresh.

A wonderful experience in every way. You can see the attention to detail as soon as you walk in. Decor is classy and minimalist. Host and servers are caring, knowledgeable and well trained. Each dish is not only beautifully presented, but also cooked perfectly and pure in taste. It's not about big tastes and intense seasoning. The ingredients are allowed to shine and be the star of the plate. The food was truly farm fresh - this is the real deal. This exceptional experience is a result of caring and expert owners presiding over front and back. I hope they don't jump on the expansion/multi-restaurant bandwagon. I can't wait to return.

Wonderfully delicious fare. staff and co owner colleen couldn't have been nicer. Met the chef after dinner. Will go back again and again. Smoked trout was sensational, like a whipped up mousse but much more delicious. Beets were outrageously good. Sauted softshells were done with spring onions, wonderful. Pannecotta tasty and surprising. A wonderful experience with very different flavors skillfully constructed. Highly recommended.

It wasn't what I was expecting. Its suppose to be farm to table but most of the menu wasn't. The menu itself was really small. They said it was because it changes everyday but when you only have four main, one being chicken breast and another your out of your choices don't seem all the great. Now don't get me wrong the food was good, the service was good (my server got me some of the sausage that I want from the main they didn't have), and the place was nice but it didn't really have anything that had me dying to go back.

This place specializes in fresh food well prepared, and it justified its reputation. Everything I had was tasty and enjoyable, and the service was friendly and welcoming. It is a bit noisy, but what BYOB isn't these days? For one thing they have to deal with us, who apparently think talking in a voice appropriate to be heard across the street is the way you should talk at a small table. :) This is set up to convince you to order 4 courses (3 regular, dessert) and if done, it will be a fair bit pricier than other BYOBs (and even, to a lesser extent, if not). That said, I had a great time, would be happy to go back.

This was our second visit and we continue to be impressed by every aspect of this operation. Despite fact that it was a Saturday night, there was no rush and service was as professional as one could wish. Only complaint is the noise level, which is made even worse by their insistence on playing a loud music track. Skip the music and install some more sound absorbing materials.

It was an excellent experience. The cons meshed so well with the pros that it's hard to explain how much fun it was. It's a small venue so you are seated at a table very close to the other patrons, which could have been awkward. But in the end it was super helpful because the people next to us had terrific suggestions about which dishes they enjoyed. The food was superb and the service was cheery. It's BYOB - remember that. The only cons I walked away with were - it was very loud when it got crowded, and I was extremely hot in there (but that might have been because it was a really hot day.) I do think it's a date place, although I went with my sister and we had a lot of fun. It is pricey but worth it- so remember that.

overall the concept is great farm to table but the execution was lacking. i think the high-end preparation takes away from the freshness of the food. simpler would be better. the service was pleasant but not perfectly attentive, after the first pour of wine the server never re-filled our glasses. tables are too close together.

We had a great dinner at Farm and the Fisherman. We were greeted by one of the owners and she sat us right to our table. It is a BYOB, but they had a wonderful list of non alcoholic drinks to chose from and my husband particularly liked the fresh-brewed mint-chocolate iced tea. There was a three course menu (which changes daily) which had some very delicious choices. We were served hot rolls with homemade butter before our first course, and they were incredible! I had the beet steak as a first course which was absolutely amazing! I would strongly recommend that if is on the menu again. My husband had the soft shell crabs for his second course, and loved them. We will definitely go back there again and recommend it to friends & family.

Farm and the Fisherman was friendly, attentive, and the food was truly excellent. My partner and I had the asparagus salad and the soft shell crabs as and appetizer. Both were excellent and the softshell crabs were the best I ever had with an escarole sauce. Dinner was an excellent steak that I tasted and I had the scallops, which were was one of the best scallop dishes I've had -- small, perfectly broiled and flavored. The noise level is high with people's conversation, and the small place is very crowded, so it's not a romantic place or a place to have a quiet conversation. BYOB is great but it took them a long time to bring our chilled bottle of white wine back when we arrived - not sure what that was about. Overall, I recommend
