We had only eaten brunch or lunch there before. It has a whole different atmosphere with the soft lighting after dark. The food was really good and enough left over to take some home.

This is so convenient when downtown people meet eastside people. I like the food; several in my party did not. I think if you keep to their "staples" you are better off than ordering the specials. Generally a good place to meet for a fine meal and interesting wine list.

"Concept dining" is a hit-or-miss proposition. When your food rises so high that it develops a concept, you've created something special. When the food is wrapped up in the concept, you've sacrificed the food for the concept. Bennett's approaches this level; the penny dropped when one of our party ordered a diet cola and was reminded--none too gently--that Bennett's has no food items with artificial sweeteners. Okay. Got it. But the food itself--for as much as it combines wonderfully fresh and pure ingredients--just seemed to be mechanistically prepared, and the experience as a whole failed to satisfy. Perhaps those messy, unhealthy, adulterated things we remember from home cooking give the food soul, and us the comfort we feel.

  • Everything about the place

Everything about the place was good. We went to Happy Hour and thought the drinks menu was a little misleading. It said $6.00 red and white wines--not mentioning there were only two offered. Also, you had to look closely to see that they said $5,00 cocktail--again, not mentioning on the sign board that there was only 1 offered. Maybe others found that acceptable but you shouldlnl't have to go over everything with a fine toothed comb. The servers should have mentioned that when taking the orders. Other than that, we enjoyed our meal.

  • We split the cobb crab salad
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 8/18/2011
We split the cobb crab salad and veggie linguini. The cobb salad was mostly lettuce and crab and not much flavor. Plus the lettuce was mostly white not green. The linguini was mostly good veggies and a little bit of noodles with hardly any sauce. I would have liked more noodles and heavier sauce. The food was just okay. For the prices and the ambiance I was expecting more from the food quality for our first time going there. Also, we had told the waiter that it was both of our birthdays and I think it would be nice it they had brought out a tiny something for desert to share for that. Just something to think about for better PR.

On a recent visit, the staff was professional and enthusiastic. Our waitress was knowledgeable about both the menu items and wine recommendations. All four of our party ordered from the seasonal specials, which were creatively conceived, beautifully presented, and very well-prepared. We have dined here several times before and the experience is always the same, which is why we keep coming back.

The food is absolutely delicious and fabulous! The service on the night we were there was terrible. Water was served but then nothing and nobody for 15 minutes. Food and drinks came out late and no dispensation was given even when we asked for another happy-hour size of mac-n-cheese. Instead of saying, "oh, sure b/c i'm sorry you had to wait so long for everything and 2 dinners arrived after others were totally finished."

I love Bennett's and have been a few times for dinner but the service was incredible slow. It was a workday and took almost two hours for lunch and we only ordered sandwiches and soup. There was also a couple of mistakes with the orders. I probably will not go back for a work lunch, I chose it because there were people meeting from Seattle & Bellevue and it was a good inbetween place.

Our family went for Mothers Day Brunch and I must say, my mother-in-law summed it up quite nicely with her comment; "Nothing special". The poached eggs were all overdone on the "Eggs Bennett". Burger that was ordered medium rare, came well done. Pulled pork sandwich was all bun and little meat. We should have sent things back, but it would have involved 7 out of the 8 people in our party. Needless to say, Bennetts is not on the top of my "go to" list.

I've had two lunch there in the past few weeks. I think the menu is good. The asparagus soup was the special soup both days, and I had it both times. It was a very good non-cream based soup. The carpese was good, but I think the bread could have been more interesting... I'd love to see a bit more flair. Salads are very good... I didn't check out the wine. I'll be there a few times a month.

We visited Bennett's Pure Food Bistro as part of Seattle Restaurant Week and chose from a fixed-price menu of three courses for $28, an excellent deal. Bennett's has reasonable prices already, and the chance to sample among several of their most popular and flavorful dishes was too good to pass up. In particular, the BBQ pork shoulder was outstanding, succulent and delicious. Our server was attentive and personable, never intrusive, and he did a great job of suggesting wines and offering insights about the restaurant's philosophies and sourcing activities. The Seattle Restaurant Week menu offered a good set of options and the dishes were all wonderful. The location is intimate but not crowded, perfect for a relaxing evening out.

When I go to a nice restaurant, I always judge the food based on whether I could have made it at home. I love to leave thinking, "I wish I knew how to make that." The food was fine and the ingredients were fresh, but nothing that I couldn't have cooked myself. I was a bit surprised as well by the ambiance—lots of noise and activity. I expected something quieter and more romantic. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but Bennett's isn't going to be on my list of restaurants to return to regularly.
